Touchdown - Texans!published at 00:43 Greenwich Mean Time

    Chargers 12-32 Texans

    That ought to do it.

This drive has featured 12 Joe Mixon runs and he finishes it off in fitting style, strong-arming LA linebacker Daiyan Henley and pounding through from 17 yards.

Ka'imi Fairbairn does the rest with the extra point.

Hard to see any way back now for the Chargers.

    Chargers 12-25 Texans

Two timeouts in quick succession for the Chargers as the Texans continue to bleed the clock.

Penny for the thoughts of quarterback Justin Herbert who looks rueful on the sidelines. He needs his defence to get him the ball back.

Eek that's close - but the ruling on the field stands.

The Texans offence stays out for a fourth and one and CJ Stroud scuttles over the line.

Fresh set of downs for the home team who've drained six minutes already with this drive.

At this stage of the game I think it's an excellent decision to challenge the call. Even if you lose it it gives you time to decide what to do on fourth down.

    Chargers 12-25 Texans

The clock is not the Chargers' friend at the moment with the Texans gritting together a run-heavy drive.

Guts from CJ Stroud too on third and long as he scrambles through coverage to move the chains.

But is he a yard short of first down? That's the ruling on the field. Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans challenges the call.

Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh is pacing up and down on the sideline. He looks thoroughly fed up.

Meanwhile, Texans running back Joe Mixon continues to chip away at mid-field as he gets a couple of first downs.

    Thinking about going to bed??

Not only are we in for a huge 10 minutes here, but we've got the small matter of an AFC grudge match between the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers coming up in half an hour.

    Don't go anywhere!

This is just getting silly now.

There have been some absolutely bonkers plays tonight and that's probably the most ridiculous yet.

If this is anything to go by for this year's play-offs then we're in for a treat!

  10. Texans block PAT to score!published at 00:27 Greenwich Mean Time

    LA Chargers 12-25 Houston Texans

    This game has gone mad.

Cameron Dicker lines up the extra point but the Texans defence blocks his attempt.

As it breaks free, Dicker cannot catch it, D'Angelo Ross picks up the loose ball and charge to the end zone to collect two totally unexpected points for the home side.

Just when the Chargers thought they were back in the game.

Big-time throw by Herbert. He knew he had to make a play. Between two defenders, McConkey going up and getting it. You've got to force the ball because you've got to make a play.

  12. McConkey 'the anchor' for the Chargerspublished at 00:26 Greenwich Mean Time

    LA Chargers 12-23 Houston Texans

    Phoebe Schecter
BBC Sport NFL columnist on Sky Sports

Ladd McConkey has been the star receiver throughout the season. A lot of the ways have been over the middle, trying to get in behind the linebackers. He does a great job of running routes and becomes friendly to the quarterback.

That is so important for Justin Herbert when he is looking for his anchor.

He's been the reason the Chargers have been able to get anything today.

  13. touchdown

Touchdown - Chargers!published at 00:22 Greenwich Mean Time

    Chargers 12-23 Texans

    What a comeback!

Facing a third and 26 from his own 14-yard line, Justin Herbert wriggles free, snaffles a pass out to Ladd McConkey who breaks a tackle and races clear to trim the Texans lead.

That's an 86-yard touchdown for the star rookie out of Georgia.

  14. Sackpublished at 00:22 Greenwich Mean Time

    Chargers 6-23 Texans

Huge! This Texans defence has been monstrous tonight.

Justin Herbert is sacked twice, first by Will Anderson and then by Mario Edwards Jr. Sixteen yards lost on this drive.

It's a great thing for the Texans (that their offence isn't running at 100%). Win this game and learn from their mistakes. As long as the defence keeps doing what they're doing and the offence comes along next week, they are going to be a problem to deal with.

Graphic showing that Justin Herbert has had three interceptions during both the 2024 regular season and in one play-off game

    That's play-off pressure for you.

  17. field goal

Field goal - Texanspublished at 00:17 Greenwich Mean Time

    LA Chargers 6-23 Houston Texans

The Texans cannot make the most of their promising field position from that interception - but as Ka'imi Fairbairn drills home a short field goal, they do stretch out their lead.

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert needs something special over the next 12 minutes or so if he is to avoid more play-off heartbreak.

That's the second big drop of the day from Will Dissly. This ball is thrown well - he's got an opportunity to catch but it bounces off his hands.

  19. Turnover - Texanspublished at 00:13 Greenwich Mean Time

    LA Chargers 6-20 Houston Texans

    Commentator's curse!

This isn't Justin Herbert's fault as tight end Will Dissly drops the ball and through comes Derek Stingley Jr with a 55-yard run on the interception.

Texans in the redzone and threatening to further their lead.

The Chargers are going to have to come out with some trick plays or something because they're hanging their heads right now.
