Summary

  1. Another record tumbles for number 87published at 21:01 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Kansas City Chiefs 14–7 Baltimore Ravens

Travis Kelce has now made the most catches in NFL play-off history

Travis Kelce needed seven catches to overtake Jerry Rice for most receptions in the post-season.

He's done that in the first half.

  2. Great play!published at 21:01 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Kansas City Chiefs 14-7 Baltimore Ravens

    Lamar Jackson to...Lamar Jackson!

Jackson's pass is batted up into the air by the Chiefs, who look nailed-on to catch the interception, but Jackson uses his pace to somehow catch his own pass and take it 13 yards!

  3. Chiefs stopped in their trackspublished at 21:01 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Kansas City Chiefs 14-7 Baltimore Ravens

Jason Bell, former NFL cornerback, on Sky Sports

This is how you react if you’re the number one defence. You stop them in their tracks.

  4. Turnover!published at 20:58 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Kansas City Chiefs 14-7 Baltimore Ravens

The Chiefs go for it on fourth down and one, but Isiah Pacheco can't get it and Baltimore get away with their earlier turnover as Kansas City now hand it right back without any points at all!

Travis Kelce looked like he'd actually made the first down the previous play, and the Chiefs possibly should've challenged that before opting to go for it.

Should they have just taken the field goal?

  5. Kelce breaks recordpublished at 20:56 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Kansas City Chiefs 14-7 Baltimore Ravens

Travis Kelce with a catch and run, and it's the catch bit that's important as it's the 152nd play-off reception for the Chiefs tight end that put him top of the all-time list.

Kelce goes above the great Jerry Rice, a hero with the San Francisco 49ers, who is widely regarded as the best wide receiver ever - and not many ever thought that record would be broken.

The fact a tight end has broken it is incredible.

  6. 'Massive turnover'published at 20:53 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Kansas City Chiefs 14–7 Baltimore Ravens

    Greg Brady
NFL pundit on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

That turnover is massive. The Ravens defence were just on the field having a long, long drive and now after five or six plays they are having to come back on.

That was a slight sloppy play from Lamar Jackson and his mistake there is something you don’t ever see from Patrick Mahomes.

Lamar has been the best player in the league this year - but suddenly they find themselves wishing they had the other guy.

  7. Sack - Fumble, Chiefs get the ball!published at 20:51 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Kansas City Chiefs 14-7 Baltimore Ravens

Lamar Jackson is hit from behind by Charles Omenihu just as he's about the throw, and the ball's out and gathered by George Karlaftis.

The Chiefs get the ball back on the Baltimore 33-yard line - that could be a huge play in this game.

  8. First downpublished at 20:48 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Kansas City Chiefs 14-7 Baltimore Ravens

Justice Hill just about leans over the line to get a first down for Baltimore, who need a big drive here - not only to answer that Chiefs touchdown but also to give their defence a rest.

  9. 'This is really something'published at 20:48 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Kansas City Chiefs 14–7 Baltimore Ravens

    Greg Brady
NFL pundit on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

The Ravens can’t stop this Chiefs offence - it’s really something.

In the 19 games the Ravens have played this season, only one team has even scored 14 points before half-time and that was the LA Rams.

The Chiefs have not even punted yet. They are imposing their will on the Ravens at the moment.

  10. 'Nobody comes here and pushes the Ravens around'published at 20:46 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Kansas City Chiefs 14-7 Baltimore Ravens

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo on CBS: "Nobody comes into Baltimore and pushes them around. Kansas City just pushed that [defensive] line into the end zone and opened up a huge hole. That wears on you."

Isiah Pacheco completes a sensational drive by barging over from a couple of yards out.

It's a monumental drive of 16 plays and just over nine minutes, with those thrilling third down conversions, but perhaps most crucial of all was the way they just punched it in at the end.

Not many teams can bully Baltimore at the line, but the Chiefs pushed them back into their own end zone as Pacheco bundled in. Impressive stuff.

  12. Mahomes on the runpublished at 20:42 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Kansas City Chiefs 7-7 Baltimore Ravens

Another pressure play on third and three from the Baltimore 10 - and Patrick Mahomes again shows his wheels by taking off and running from it.

He's not the quickest, or most elegant runner to be fair, but Mahomes is so effective when he does run and gets so many crucial first downs.

  13. 'Anything you can do'published at 20:41 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Kansas City Chiefs 7–7 Baltimore Ravens

Former Tennessee Titans cornerback Jason McCourty on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

The old Michael Jordan commercial; "Anything you can do, I can do better".

We watched Lamar break a few tackles and then throw a great touchdown pass. Mahomes broke two or three, scrambled around and then find an unbelievable pass to Travis Kelce.

For this Ravens defence, you have to do something. You can't have Travis Kelce already having that level of production.

  14. Great play!published at 20:39 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Kansas City Chiefs 7-7 Baltimore Ravens

    What!?

Patrick Mahomes has an age but can't find anyone open, scrambling around for his life he wanders forward then throws as he's smacked, and Travis Kelce takes a massive diving catch to convert the third down.

I can't quite believe that one.

  15. 'Big time players'published at 20:39 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Kansas City Chiefs 7-7 Baltimore Ravens

Ndamukong Suh, 2021 Super Bowl winner, on Sky Sports.

In big games, big time players show up and Patrick Mahomes is going for his big time player Kelce, who is really showing up alongside Pacheco in the run game.

  16. 'Disconcerting' for Baltimorepublished at 20:37 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Kansas City Chiefs 7–7 Baltimore Ravens

    Greg Brady
NFL pundit on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

The Ravens have done a number on some good quarterbacks this year – Trevor Lawrence got seven points, Brock Purdy got 19, they beat the Lions 38-6. They have pounded some teams and made them look silly.

But right now the Ravens don’t have an answer for this. They haven’t shown remotely that they can stop Patrick Mahomes.

It’s very disconcerting if you’re a Ravens fan.

  17. End of first quarterpublished at 20:36 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Kansas City Chiefs 7-7 Baltimore Ravens

Phew, what an opening 15 minutes of this AFC title game! The Chiefs cross midfield with impressive rookie Rashee Rice and they'll start the second quarter on the Baltimore 32-yard line.

  18. Flowers bloomspublished at 20:35 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Rookie receiver Zay Flowers was a first-round pick for the Ravens and he's added a new dimension to their passing attack.

That's his first post-season touchdown today - and his seventh overall this season.

  19. First downpublished at 20:32 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Kansas City Chiefs 7-7 Baltimore Ravens

After a loss, Patrick Mahomes then runs for 11 yards, just one short of a first down, which they then get when he lobs a high pass for BFF Travis Kelce.

  20. Flowers 'a shiny toy' for the Ravenspublished at 20:30 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Kansas City Chiefs 7–7 Baltimore Ravens

    Greg Brady
NFL pundit on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

There were no wide receivers taken in the first 19 rounds of the NFL draft this year. Zay Flowers was the third receiver taken after Seattle and Los Angeles Charges passed on him.

With the 22nd pick, the Ravens gave Lamar Jackson a nice shiny toy to throw deep balls to and they have used him well.
