After a miserable morning in London the rain has cleared in time for these two sides to get the final match of the 2024 London series under way.

There has been a lot of water fall on this Wembley grass today - it will be interesting to see how the pitch holds out as this game goes on.

The New England Patriots are the third-worst offence in the NFL so far but they've got themselves a couple of early first downs as Drake Maye picks out DeMario Douglas and then Ja-Lynn Polk.

Nice confident start from the rookie under centre.

Let's face it - we want a shootout. So who's likely to be moving the points totals...?

For the Pats, 23-year-old receiver DeMario Douglas emerged as a favourite target for Drake Maye last week, snagging six catches for 92 yards and scoring his first touchdown.

In the backfield, Rhamondre Stevenson is fit to start after being questionable and has three touchdowns already this season.

Or will Maye look to Kayshon Boutte, the 22-year-old sophomore receiver was scored last week against the Houston Texans?

If you’ve come over to London for two games and win the first, that stay is magical. But when you lose, in the way the Jaguars did last week, amidst a backdrop of unrest and turmoil, and some question marks about the coaching, it's difficult.

They had some ill discipline and, from top to bottom, in all three phases they just looked off. They don’t look like they have much of a team identity and their brand of football is very simple.

They don’t actually ask Trevor Lawrence to do that much but equally, they’re one of the worst defences statistically in the NFL, especially against the pass. There’s nothing really to be too optimistic about with this team.

Trevor Lawrence is meant to be a generational talent. He was given a bye in the first year in the NFL because of the Urban Meyer situation. N

ow he’s signed a big contract and he’s an NFL veteran, he’s played in enough games. There are certain plays every game that you expect a top-end quarterback to make and those are the plays he’s been coming up short on regularly.

This may be a Jaguars home game on paper but judging by the noise and colours inside Wembley, there are a ton of Patriots fans in here.

They'll be backing their rookie quarterback Drake Maye to lead them to victory. But can he outshine a once lauded "generational talent" in counterpart Trevor Lawrence?

Thumbs up if you think Maye throws more touchdowns than Lawrence today.

There have been all eyes on Wembley this week and much discussion about whether the new England manager Thomas Tuchel will be singing the national anthem when he suits up here from January 2025.

We're about to get the anthems going here - and there will be 90,000 fans roaring out God Save The King to show the German head coach how it's done.

    • This is the 26th regular season NFL International Series game to be played at Wembley Stadium since 2007.
    • The Jacksonville Jaguars are playing at Wembley Stadium for the third straight year and 10th time overall.
    • New England are 3-1 in their four regular season games outside of the USA.
    • The Patriots have won twice before at Wembley Stadium - beating the Buccaneers 35-7 in 2009 and St Louis Rams 45-7 in 2012.
    • It's the second straight year the Patriots have played an international game after losing 10-6 to the Colts in Frankfurt, Germany, last year.

The New England Patriots have won four of their past five against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

None was more crucial than a Tom Brady-inspired 24-20 comeback victory in the AFC Championship game in January 2018.

It was enough to take the Pats to yet another Super Bowl, although fans won't thank me for reminding them of how that ended up against Philadelphia Eagles (41-33).

The last time they met? A crushing 50-10 victory for the Patriots in January 2022.

It was a real contrast last week, two number one picks coming up against each other. One’s further down the line in his fourth year but you had the feeling that one (Caleb Williams) was ascending and one was really stagnating (Trevor Lawrence).

He's just been paid a significant amount of money, and as we’ve seen with other teams, you don’t move off the quarterback, you end up moving off the coaching staff.

Drake Maye threw three touchdown passes last week and now the Patriots are going up against this Jags team that performed the way they did last week, I think the Patriots will be coming in with a lot of confidence.

Like we've seen all the way through these brilliant London games, the NFL has attracted fans from the US, across Europe and beyond.

This vibrant group of Patriots fans from all around Germany will be brightening up Wembley on this drizzly day in their bespoke shirts made for last season's 10-6 loss to the Colts in Frankfurt.

They'll be hoping for a better result this time around.

And we're hoping for A LOT more points, Chris.

The New England Patriots are a big deal in the UK as one of the most popular sides around thanks to their dominance over two decades.

And they're still big now even after a few lean years, with secondary ticket website Viagogo reporting that this game has the largest number of UK fans buying tickets of the three London games.

Should be plenty of Pats shirts at Wembley - and many of them, as above, sporting that iconic number 12 on the back.

If Drake Maye could have hand picked a defence to face then the stats say it would be this Jags one.

Quarterbacks have posted the third-highest passer rating in the league this season of 114.4 when facing Jacksonville - who have surrendered the most passing touchdowns (14) of any side in the NFL so far.

Life in the NFL is a bit like the Hunger Games for rookie quarterbacks.

Drake Maye was taken third overall in the draft earlier this year by the New England Patriots but spent five weeks on the sidelines, supposedly learning the ropes from veteran Jacoby Brissett.

However, with the offence spluttering, head coach Jerod Mayo stuck his new quarterback in from the start against the Houston Texans last Sunday. He acquitted himself well, throwing three touchdown passes in a 41-21 defeat to one of the league's strongest sides.

Behind a shaky offensive line, and with a group of receivers that rank among the lowest in the entire NFL, it's a challenging start for the University of North Carolina graduate.

For years, the New England Patriots were the best team in the entire National Football League.

    And I mean, for years.

But both legendary quarterback Tom Brady and cerebral head coach Bill Belichick are gone and the Pats have sunk to the bottom of the pile.

Like Manchester United in the era after Sir Alex Ferguson left, they need a rebuild.

The man in the David Moyes role is 38-year-old Jerod Mayo, the youngest head coach in the league, and tasked with a quicker rebuild than anything United have managed.

Three years ago, Jacksonville Jaguars took quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the first pick in the NFL Draft.

Last week, he was outplayed by the poster boy of the 2024 Draft, the Chicago Bears' number one pick Caleb Williams.

Now, he faces off against this year's third pick, Drake Maye, who is making only his second start for the New England Patriots.

Will Lawrence's greater experience prove telling?

Jags head coach Doug Pederson may say otherwise, but the seat in his office is definitely warming up after a poor 1-5 start this season.

Especially when his Jaguars side finished their final six games of last season 1-5 as well.

It's not just the Jaguars institution that sees the UK as home from home. Wales rugby union star Louis Rees-Zammit is back in Britain after swapping the white ball for the brown in the summer.

He's not playing today as he is still in on the Jags' practice squad while he learns his trade.

However, he has enjoyed being back in the UK for the two games the Jacksonville Jaguars are playing in London this year.
