    Stevenson v Padley

"There's only one Josh Padley" is being sung at the start of the round as he eats a couple of jabs from Stevenson. The American starts to get to work as he lands a rapid right hook to the face. The difference in class is starting to show.

Stevenson has been too sharp and too fast. Padley is trying to get over his front foot and let his hands go. That was exactly the round I expected.

    Stevenson v Padley

Stevenson's razor-sharp jab in full flow early on but Padley lands a right hand and a left hook to the body. He's certainly not overawed by the occasion!

A confidence-building first round from Padley.

Terrible, unnecessary decision... it was nowhere near a draw. Sheeraz lost this fight fair and square.

How can one referee score it 118-110 and another a draw? Boxing need to publish the judges scores at the end of every round. It would make it fairer for punters, and more importantly, the boxers.

Just 11 months ago Josh Padley was fighting at LUFC Banqueting Suite, Elland Road in Leeds.

Padley's next outing was against Mark Chamberlain at Wembley Stadium in September, dropping his rival in round eight before winning by unanimous decision.

Tonight, Padley, 29, has been handed a "crazy opportunity" to fight WBC lightweight world champion Shakur Stevenson on just four days notice.

Padley is an electrician by trade and was putting his tea in the oven on Tuesday evening when he got "a phone call that everyone dreams of".

"Monday and Tuesday I was trawling through lofts in Sheffield installing solar panels," Padley said on 5 Live's Boxing with Steve Bunce podcast.

"I went home that night from my day job and the call was there. We rang our nutritionist to make sure we could to the weight safely on such short notice and then we had to do a check weight before we even booked the flight.

"We jumped in my little Ford Transit with 120,000 miles on the clock and headed out to Manchester airport to jump on a plane."

Stevenson, like Padley, is undefeated as a professional with 22 victories under his belt but he has achieved significantly more during that period with the American holding world titles at super-featherweight, featherweight and lightweight.

"I have nothing to lose because everyone has already written me off, thinking I'm not worthy of this," Padley added.

"I'm relatively unknown but the Mark Chamberlain fight was my chance to burst on to the scene. I'm here to make a big statement."

Here comes three-weight world champion Shakur Stevenson.

Would this be one of the biggest upsets in boxing history if Josh Padley somehow pulls this off?

I am defo Team Sheeraz but that draw is a laughable decision, everyone hang their heads in shame.

Seems only one judge actually watched the fight.

Pie charts comparing methods of victory between Shakur Stevenson and Josh Padley

Josh Padley faces the biggest test of his career when he goes up against WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson on just four days notice.

Stevenson is a three-weight world champion and the American is yet to taste defeat across 22 professional bouts - winning 10 by knockout.

Padley, meanwhile, has never previously competed for a world title but he does also boast a perfect record through 15 fights.

    Stevenson v Padley

    Barry Jones
Former world champion on 5 Live Boxing

It's the chance of a lifetime for Padley. On paper, he has no chance and that's the truth. Stevenson is a three-weight world champion, he hasn't got the recognition that his skills deserve and he's a very clever fighter.

Padley is getting paid an absolute fortune and the chance to fight for a world title. But it's a hard, hard night for him.

No rest for the wicked here as Josh Padley makes his way to the ring for his shot at glory. Four days ago he was fitting solar panels in a loft. What a story.

Adames won easily. 8-4 minimum. Dodgy, dodgy decision.

That was an absolute disgrace. Every single person in the Sheeraz corner knows that we have seen something here tonight that may be ranked as one of the worst scores I have ever, ever been ringside to witness.

Adames was just too good and in control throughout the fight and completely outboxed Sheeraz.

    Stunned by that decision.

Here is how the judges had it:

    • 115-114 Sheeraz
    • 118-110 Adames
    • 114-114 draw

There was no shame in any of that. Sheeraz was outfought, he was shown things he didn't no existed in the sport. Adames is better than the films and the clips you've seen on social media.

The feeling is that Adames has done enough to retain his WBC middleweight title but you just never know with boxing.

  20. Round 12published at 21:05 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

    Adames v Sheeraz

More good work to the body from Adames as Sheeraz looks to respond with some hooks of his own. Sheeraz comes again with a left hook but it just skims the head of Adames. Beautiful combination late on from Adames and he seems to rock Sheeraz slightly with a huge uppercut.

Adames raises his hand at the sound of the final bell. We await the judge's scorecards...
