Gus Atkinson bats vs India at The Oval.Image source, PA Media

I don't want to be too much of a doom-monger but dark clouds are swelling around The Oval.

Gus Atkinson is clearly trying to play all of his shots. He's flashing at everything and even charges down to Prasidh Krishna. His reward is a single.

    The scores are level.

On this surface I wouldn't spread the field around for Harry Brook. I don't think he's in yet.

I'd have everyone else up to try to get him out.

Perched on the 13th floor in Elephant and Castle, watching a dark cloud roll over the Oval. I’m doing my best rain dance up here – anything to help England hit reset tomorrow!

It's been the story of two sessions. England dominated the morning, four quick wickets and then smashed the ball to all parts.

Then the afternoon belonged to India.

Mohammed Siraj is back and steaming in fiercely, as he has done all innings.

And he nearly has Gus Atkinson out caught and bowled. The ball was smashed back at him, around hip height in his follow through, and he does well to get a hand on it.

England run hard to collect five runs.

The players are back out after joining in with the applause of the crowd in acknowledgement of the money raised on A Day for Thorpey.

Gus Atkinson safely navigates the final ball of Prasidh Krishna's over which was halted for tea following the wicket of Jamie Overton.

I did mention about the extras towards the end of India’s innings today… 38 runs in a game like this with England still nine behind could be absolutely massive.

    Rick

It's the extras that England gave away in the first over that are coming back to haunt them. They'd be quite nicely ahead otherwise.

Every weekday during the India Test series, I've been posing a cricketing conundrum on BBC Sounds. They’re not easy though.

You’ll need to combine cricketing knowledge with guesswork to find the answer.

Today is about average overs per wide. Head over to BBC Sounds and listen to the question.

    Good luck!

As Matt said, on his watch, England have slumped from 109-1 to 215-7 and trail India by nine runs.

Here's a flavour of the six wickets which fell during the afternoon session.

    Thanks Matt.

I didn't expect to be watching India bat again today but it looks like that will be the case - unless there's a stunning display of batting resistance to come from Harry Brook and what's left of England's tail.

If the first session was all England that one was very much India's. Elizabeth Botcherby took you through the batting dominance earlier. Perhaps it will return with her...

Krishna got a bit of fire in his belly after that run-in with Joe Root, it lifted the entire India side and they've got themselves right back into this test match.

Shubman Gill will be absolutely delighted with the character and fight that his bowlers have shown.

Prasidh Krishna started this with the wicket of Zak Crawley and the tussle with Joe Root just after lunch.

India have bagged six wickets in the session as they head for the dressing room.

That will be tea. England were 109-1 after 16 overs at the start of the session. How things change.

India got just a little giddy. Jamie Overton had got further across outside off stump than they realised.

It's not out and the tourists only have one review remaining.
