BBC Weather seems to have the bleakest outlook so we'll take this as a worst case scenario.

There were two significant rain delays on day one, and alongside slow over rates, we only got through 64 overs.

We can make up some more of the overs lost to rain across the remainder of the Test.

A number of you have messaged BBC Sport's Ask Me Anything team with the question: "Why can't play start earlier?".

The ICC Test playing conditions say: "If any time is lost and cannot be made up under clause 12.7.3.1 [relates to making up time on the day it is lost], additional time of up to a maximum of 30 minutes per day shall be added to the scheduled playing hours for the next day, and subsequent day(s) as required (to make up as much lost time as possible."

It is up to individual governing bodies to decide where, and how, that 30 minutes is made up.

The England and Wales Cricket Board's playing conditions read as above, with the following line added: "Any time carried forward in this way shall be added to the end of the last session of play."

Cricket Australia, by contrast, use it at the start of the day.

  3. A mixed bag from England's bowlerspublished at 10:39 British Summer Time 1 August

At the start of the 40th over - after two long rain delays, with cloudy skies and a green pitch at his disposal - Josh Tongue had the in-form Ravindra Jadeja in his sights.

The first ball of the over flew past wicketkeeper Jamie Smith for four byes. The second was short, wide and flashed for four. The third was a beauty on a good length, nibbling away from the left-hander and taking the edge.

From unreachable to unplayable, bizarre to brilliant.

Three balls that encapsulated England in their entirety, as they restricted India to 204-6 on day one of the fifth Test at The Oval.

  5. Woakes out of final Test with shoulder injurypublished at 10:33 British Summer Time 1 August

England pace bowler Chris Woakes has been ruled out of the remainder of the decisive fifth Test against India after suffering a shoulder injury on the opening day at The Oval.

Woakes was tumbling to make a boundary stop late on Thursday when he landed awkwardly. He went from the field with his left arm in a makeshift sling, in obvious discomfort.

The 36-year-old was assessed overnight and before play on the second day England confirmed he will take no further part.

England said a "further assessment will be conducted at the conclusion of the series".

The injury leaves the home side in a precarious position in the fifth Test, where they need to avoid defeat in order to win the series
