Jamie Overton and Gus Atkinson can both bat. England still have batting to come but they need a partnership from these two.

Remember tea is not until 15:55 BST. There are, theoretically at least, 53 overs left in the day after this one.

Full credit to Siraj, who's just been crunched to the off-side, to out-think Bethell.

Yet again, India are finding a way to stay in this game.

    This one is out though!

An inswinging yorker from Mohammed Siraj pins Jacob Bethell in front. Siraj was already near the wicketkeeper by the time the finger went up. He was charging away in celebration.

    This game is alive.

I'm not sure we've seen a ball hit harder than that in this game. He's crunched that.

That was Ben Duckett-like from Jacob Bethell.

    Jacob Bethell!

Mohammed Siraj isn't listening to Rufus and is bowling over the wicket. England's young batter responds by charging and slamming a cut through the covers.

Deep round the wicket to Bethell immediately and looking threatening.

Akash Deep thinks he's a bit unfortunate after Jacob Bethell clips one in the air towards mid-wicket. The ball bounced short and wide of the diving Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Shubman Gill still hasn't turn to his spinners. Harry Brook might try and belt it over the Thames if his does.

For all the chat about the spirit of cricket we've heard, it's extremely charitable of India to only pick three seamers, pre-empting England's injury problem.

Jacob Bethell's first Test run in England is a nudge into the leg side.

Fair play to these three Indian seamers, because in the first 12 overs they went for 90. But they've come back and managed to get Duckett and Crawley and they're running and running and running, I keep thinking when is Gill going to turn to his spinner?

Thrashed for four by Harry Brook this time.

He was eyeing up this shot over the leg side a couple of overs ago and now he does get it away.

  15. Eng 180-4published at 34.1 overs

Right on cue, Brook moves into double figures with a slightly edgy guide through the gully. He probably meant that. I'll give him credit.

How has Harry Brook only got nine? The number of shots he's played...

Bazball is changing minds, judging by those messages.

Jacob Bethell's three previous Tests came while many in the UK were sleeping. He made 50 not out, 96 and 76 in the second innings of each of his three Tests against New Zealand.

The 21-year-old may well have started the year in England's XI had he not been at the IPL. One thing that stood out was his composure.

This pitch is a minefield. There is no point sitting in hoping you can tick at 2/3 runs per over. You will get a ball with your name on it. Have to get the bowler off their line and length. Attack on this pitch is the best form of defence.

    Will, Singapore

I honestly think it has been a mistake for England to take their foot off the pedal. Press on, and try and plunder a 50 run lead or so!
