Many of you have been asking why Dhruv Jurel can keep wicket in this match with Rishabh Pant off the field with his finger injury.

Pant batted in India’s first innings having been injured on day one but Jurel has replaced him behind the stumps since taking that blow.

Previously 12th men could not act as wicketkeepers but the laws were changed in 2017 to allow this. A substitute keeper can take the gloves at the discretion of the umpires if they are satisfied the player is injured.

This is when Zak Crawley can become really dangerous, good cricketing shots. He's got so much talent with his shot-making ability and he doesn't need to try too much here.

  4. Eng 48-2published at 13 overs

Joe Root walks out after the players have taken drinks, while Nitish Kumar Reddy will replace Jasprit Bumrah at the Nursery End after a five-over spell.

Root gets off the mark with a single through point, before Zak Crawley pulls past the mid-wicket fielder for four.

I am not sure what's happened to this pitch, it's been borderline dangerous and how Zak Crawley is still there is beyond me. He's shown so much courage and this is a great opportunity for him to make his mark in this series.

With the pitch misbehaving and the ball doing loads, I think 250 could be enough. Cue a Stokes declaration!

It has been an interesting phase of the game, England have lost a couple of wickets, and they'll be happy if they can get 250 or 300. Joe Root holds the key and India will need to get him out.

Pope lbw b Mohammed Siraj 4 (Eng 42-2)

All reds, Mohammed Siraj was right!

It did look high, striking around the knee roll, but ball tracking has a strike at the top of the stumps.

A good review by Shubman Gill, and India are in the ascendancy now.

Ollie Pope's struck on the pad and Mohammed Siraj's absolutely adamant that this is out, unsurprisingly.

Shubman Gill has already lost one review having been convinced by Siraj, he's asking his bowler about the height.

Siraj isn't having any questions and the India captain does end up sending it upstairs...

Call me negative but I think if England were bowling we’d be talking about it being a flat pitch. Stokes being England's best/most effective bowler is a serious problem for this series.

At the end of 10 overs, England have edged 17% of their deliveries and played a total of 37% false shots - both the highest for any innings at this point in the series. They've been very fortunate to be just one down at this stage.

In this series so far, Jasprit Bumrah has not bowled more than five-over spells in a single session.

Who instigated the shoulder brush (barge is a bit strong) or if it's accidental is inconclusive, I'd say.

And celebrating is fine, but it's the getting up in the grille of the batter you've dismissed which will likely land you in the match referee's office.

One scoring shot off Jasprit Bumrah's fifth over of the morning, as Zak Crawley takes two through mid-on.

Am I the only one to see Duckett shoulder barging Siraj? And since when does celebrating a wicket an offence?

This is still very much a new ball game. Once the ball gets softer, it will be easier to bat. The worst thing that can happen is when you try to play your shots early on and lose wickets. So you need to see through this period and the runs will come when the ball gets softer.

  18. Eng 36-1published at 9 overs

Zak Crawley takes all of Jasprit Bumrah's over, edging the ball into square for two then finding four through fine leg.

The opener has faced 37 of the 54 balls of this innings.

Maybe in the minority but I don’t really mind Siraj’s reaction. India full of emotion and England have looked rather meek this summer. Talk about good value for ticket-buyers!

Seriously guys? Love all this argy bargy! Cricket at times is too nice!! Bring it on. Come on India.

I think you can say both are unsportsmanlike, Dan, but Siraj's aggression outranks Crawley's shenanigans in terms of naughtiness.

Nonetheless, I can't keep my eyes of Siraj, he's box office.

Three of this over from the India seamer, with Crawley taking two of them with a shot through mid-wicket.
