At least Gus Atkinson can now get out of those uncomfortable whites and get the trackies on.

    Enviable.

Hannah: We have to give my dad an extra five minutes before we leave the house for anything, to account for changing out of his house trousers. As a child I thought it was hilarious, as an adult I have multiple pairs of house trousers!

Just think of your seven-fer, Gus, as you're walking up the steps.

  4. wicket

    Atkinson c Da Silva b Holder 0 (Eng 342-8)

Another! Gus Atkinson is unable to replicate his bowling heroics.

Swing, bounce and seam movement does for England's number nine, with Jason Holder finally making use of the new ball. He nicks behind, departs for a duck and Jamie Smith now has to bat smartly with the tail.

He can't believe it, Chris Woakes. A leg stump half-volley, he rolls his wrist, right out of the middle of the bat and it just goes straight to the fielder on the boundary edge.

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 82 overs

    Woakes c Louis b Seales 23 (Eng 339-7)

    From nowhere!

Chris Woakes gets a juicy leg stump volley that he tries to flick over square leg, getting good contact on it but straight to Mikyle Louis, perfectly stationed at square leg.

The new ball works for the West Indies, but probably not in the way they'd have envisioned!

Chris Woakes is as good as an off-side driver as you will you see, for a lower-order player he's up there with the best.

  8. Eng 339-6published at 81.1 overs

    Oh, Chris Woakes.

The all-rounder leans into a wonderful cover drive for four off Jayden Seales.

If anything, the new ball is coming on to the bat easier.

We’re talking about the difference between a ‘hard trouser’ and a ‘soft trouser’ here. It’s like when most of us struggled post-pandemic with the return to wearing hard trousers in public (with belts and buttons / zips etc) - having had trousers with elasticated waistbands for months on end …

Not too much threat from Jason Holder's first over with the new ball.

West Indies are in a bit of a pickle without Shamar Joseph to utilise it.

I used to be a Jeans Lounger and my life was changed when I realised I did not have to live like that. I am now firmly in the House Trouser camp and my beloved fleece PJs have never seen natural light.

West Indies waste little time in taking the new ball.

Easy pickings, a short one from Motie. This time through the off side, powerfully hit.

    Lead by 206

England's lead trickles past 200 as Jamie Smith smashes a short, wide ball from Gudakesh Motie to the cover boundary.

Ben: Shorts and t-shirts are the only item of clothing that are acceptable for lounging in whilst watching TV!

Corduroy trousers for sofa-lounging is next level. I don't even have the words.

Kraigg Brathwaite ticks through another over of his part-time spin. Still no sign of Shamar Joseph.

Hann: If casual clothing like jeans aren't comfortable enough to lounge in, why wear them at all? I admit I don't wear denim, but my corduroy trousers are comfy enough to wear on the sofa.

  18. Eng 318-6published at 77 overs

Gudakesh Motie whizzes through another tidy over.

This debate has now got very passionate. I'm not anti-jeans, by the way. Just not for lounging around the house, it's not a thing!

Anonymous: On the important subject of lounging wear, the BBC team need to engage better with the Sacred Office held by House Trousers. House Trousers may take any form (PJs or joggers preferred, but not essential). This requires commitment to the ideal that whatever form they take, the House Trousers MUST NEVER LEAVE THE PROPERTY. They may venture outside only for essential purposes like taking out the bins. These are not your “casual mooch to the shop” trousers. No no. That is the loungewear of amateurs.
