  1. Pak 117-4published at 40 overs

Gus Atkinson is trying to target the stumps but when he strays just fractionally, Muhammad Rizwan is able to guide the ball wide of the slips to deep third for four.

Atkinson quickly finds his line again, though, and also sends down a surprise bouncer.

It didn't get up a huge amount but then that's not a shock on this pitch.

You feel that on this surface, bowling straight and keeping low is the way to go.

  3. Pak 113-4published at 39.1 overs

Shoaib Bashir has been very good this morning, Ben, but his spell has come to an end.

We're going to see some pace with Gus Atkinson into the attack for the first time today.

I'm a big fan of Bashir, the only bigger fan is that one they used to dry the pitch.

That's well played by Muhammad Rizwan, breaking a bit of pressure, hitting it hard.

  6. 6 runs

    Where did that come from?

After poking and prodding around early in the over, Muhammad Rizwan suddenly springs into action with slog-sweep off Jack Leach.

He middles it and the ball sails over the rope at deep mid-wicket.

Meanwhile something big is brewing in Pune.

India have lost their seven wicket in reply to New Zealand's 259, leaving them 103-7 and still 156 runs behind.

Mitchell Santner has four wickets and Glenn Phillips two. Virat Kohli was out for one and Rohit Sharma a duck.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Richabh Pant and Sarfaraz Khan all made starts but were dismissed.

New Zealand are already 1-0 up in the three-Test series. India have not lost a series at home since Alastair Cook's England beat them in 2012-13.

It feels as if the pitch is really dry out there today and it isn't going to get any easier to score runs. England would've loved to get around 40 more runs.

  9. drinks break

Drinks break - Pak 105-4published at 06:54 British Summer Time

The players are taking drinks at Rawalpindi.

It's a long morning session day, running until 08:30 BST, followed by an extended lunch break for Friday prayers.

    Lovely from Shoaib Bashir again.

The off-spinner slows it up a bit, the ball dips to pitch on middle and off before ripping past the outside edge.

Muhammad Rizwan then gets himself in a tangle playing on the back foot to a delivery that turns and stays low.

  11. Pak 102-4published at 37 overs

    Trail by 165

Saud Shakeel reverse sweeps for a single to bring up the 100 for Pakistan.

It's a conventional sweep from Muhammad Rizwan to get off the mark with a two.

England got into a bit of trouble with the sweep yesterday and, by and large, Pakistan's batters have shunned the shot in this innings.

It'll be interesting to see how they go if they decide to go back to it now.

  12. Pak 99-4published at 36 overs

    Trail by 168

Wicket maiden from Shoaib Bashir. He's been superb this morning.

He puts a bit of pressure on Muhammad Rizwan straightaway by bowling that attacking line outside off, turning the ball back in to the right-hander.

That tempts Rizwan into a drive to end the over and the ball nearly got through the gap between bat and pad.

That's a lovely piece of bowling. We spoke yesterday on whether or not Shoaib Bashir could get that drift and he's found it.

Great catch from Ollie Pope as well.

Beautiful delivery from Shoaib Bashir, pitched in line, turned ever so slightly, England have found their breakthrough.

  15. wicket

    Masood c Pope b Bashir 26 (Pak 99-4)

    Shoaib Bashir strikes!

It's an all too familiar dismissal for Shan Masood as he tries to turn the ball to leg.

Bashir gets it to grip from that straight line and the edge goes to Ollie Pope at that gully position. A sharp catch but he gobbles it up.

Bashir thoroughly deserves that wicket for his efforts this morning.

Jack Leach has found his rhythm now and gets through another maiden to Saud Shakeel.

There are a couple of appeals for lbw but on each occasion Shakeel had got himself outside the line of off stump.

Don't show signs of panic, England panicked yesterday because they didn't know how to score runs. Shan Masood and Saud Shakeel have been quite calm here, just chipping away,

  18. Pak 99-3published at 34 overs

    Trail by 170

Shan Masood goes back to push the ball out to deep cover for a single - and that's the fifty partnership.

It's been slow and steady so far from Masood and Saud Shakeel. Valuable runs for Pakistan, though.

There's been a couple of balls that have turned sharply but Pakistan haven't been in any trouble yet.

  20. Pak 94-3published at 33 overs

Good again from Jack Leach, who has settled in and challenged the batters than much more since going back over the wicket.

No signs of the pitch really misbehaving so far this morning, though.

It's been a fairly sedate start to the day.
