Another maiden with Shoaib Bashir keeping up the pressure as he bowls to Saud Shakeel.

The left-hander is a very good player of spin but just pushes at one from Bashir and the ball hangs in the air for a moment before dropping in front of one of two fielders in at catching at short cover.

That was the third maiden this innings with the other two coming from Gus Atkinson.

  3. Pak 92-3published at 31 overs

    Trail by 175

Back over the wicket for Jack Leach and a good over.

Shan Masood is hit on the pad first up, drawing an appeal for lbw, but he was well outside the line.

    Maiden.

Shoaib Bashir has been bigger threat, he's found the outside edge, creating opportunities.

You feel like if he settles in he'll set up some chances.

    Beauty.

This has been excellent from Shoaib Bashir and this time he pitches the ball on middle and off before turning it away sharply to beat Shan Masood.

Surely a wicket can't be too far away for the off-spinner?

  6. Pak 90-3published at 29 overs

Change of angle for Jack Leach, going round the wicket to the two left-handers.

Steady over but again no real issues for either Shan Masood or Saud Shakeel.

The Pakistan pair have made a decent enough start to the day, albeit both have needed a bit of luck against Shoaib Bashir.

  7. Pak 88-3published at 28 overs

The suggestion is that Jamie Smith perhaps went up fractionally before having to go back down which cost any chance of being able to take that catch.

It still would've been a top catch stood up to the stumps.

What is clear is that Shoaib Bashir has been England's most threatening bowler early on day two.

That was a beautiful delivery from Shoaib Bashir, it's a shame Jamie Smith couldn't take that.

  9. dropped catch

Shakeel dropped on 26published at 27.4 overs

    Pak 86-3

Shoaib Bashir's third over of the day and the third time he's found the edge.

This time it's Saud Shakeel, who was trying to turn the ball to leg.

It was a fairly big deviation to take the ball just past Jamie Smith's gloves and onto his pad.

Not sure the England wicketkeeper could have done too much more stood up to the stumps but it goes down as a missed chance.

  10. Pak 82-3published at 27 overs

A better second over from Jack Leach in terms of troubling the batters, Shan Masood in particular.

His length was that much better with Masood, who would much prefer to go back, being challenged as Leach dragged him forward more often.

I think the feeling last night was that England are ahead, not by much though.

England's batting against spin yesterday was unconvincing.

  12. Pak 81-3published at 26 overs

    Trail by 186 runs

Another indication of just how low and slow this surface is as Shoaib Bashir finds the edge for the second time already today.

However, once again the ball drops well short of slip despite it being a genuine edge from Shan Masood.

It was Ben Stokes at first slip this time who momentarily thought he was in the game.

That was a nice shot from Saud Shakeel, a little short from Shoaib Bashir.

  14. Pak 80-3published at 25.1 overs

The first boundary of the day comes with a lovely late cut from Saud Shakeel.

He waited on it and guided the ball past backward point.

Jack Leach gave chase and flicked the ball back but his boot was touching the cushion as he did so. Four runs.

Shan Masood hasn't had a great time since that century in the first Test.

  16. Pak 76-3published at 25 overs

    Trail by 191

It's spin at both ends - no real surprise there - as Jack Leach gets the nod to start from the other end.

A tidy over from the left-arm spinner but not quite the same threat with the ball turning into the two Pakistan left-handers.

That was a good first over for Shoaib Bashir, he got the ball spinning.

  18. Pak 74-3published at 24 overs

    Trail by 194

Shan Masood defends into the leg side for the first run of the day but it's a good, probing over from Shoaib Bashir.

The young England off-spinner looked dangerous yesterday and has continued in the same vein first up today.

Shoaib Bashir has started well here today.

  20. Pak 73-3published at 23.1 overs

    Turn immediately for Shoaib Bashir.

Shan Masood tried to play back, the ball took the edge and despite Ollie Pope being in very close, under the helmet, at second slip, the ball falls fractionally short.

Nearly the perfect start for England.
