  1. Ind 138-3published at 43 overs

    Lead by 144

Rishabh Pant takes a single as he drops a cut towards the cordon.

Stokes over-steps from the following delivery for a no-ball, and the rest of the over goes without a run.

Rahul certainly has been very measured today as he martials India's innings.

Here's how he reached his 50 - he's now on 64 having been dropped on 58.

Surely the most complete fast bowler can bowl spin when the light is dodgy. Imran Khan, Sobers?

    Marc, Aberdeen

Steven is way off in his assessment of Bumrah. Cannot believe no-one has mentioned Lillee, alongside Marshall as the best post-war fast bowler. Bumrah wouldn't be in my top 10.

  5. Ind 136-3published at 42 overs

Just one scoring shot for KL Rahul off Josh Tongue, pulling a two out to fine leg.

Most of the bowlers are struggling to pitch the ball up from the far end because of the slope.

  7. Ind 134-3published at 41 overs

Edged... runs safe and for four.

Pant sends the ball through an empty gully off Stokes - I'm not sure it would have carried anyway.

The India wicketkeeper moves to 24 from 41 deliveries.

India are being really cautious this session. They know that the lower order couldn't contribute much so cannot afford to take that many risks till they're in a comfortable position.

  9. Ind 129-3published at 40 overs

Couple of singles from Josh Tongue's over out to backward square and fine leg.

    India's lead is now 135.

The amount of regulation catches that have been dropped this Test is ridiculous.

Here's that drop from Harry Brook.

If KL Rahul goes on to a big score then India are big favourites to win this.

But then England's position in this game does rest on a fair number of India spills.

The ball is getting a little softer now, even the pitch is getting a little slower.

Lowest Expected Bowling Average (min 2,500 balls since 2006)

    • 22.5 - Jasprit Bumrah
    • 25.7 - Mohammed Shami
    • 26.1 - Kagiso Rabada
    • 26.2 - Pat Cummins
    • 26.5 - Josh Hazlewood

According to the CricViz Expected Wickets model, which looks at the tracking data of balls bowled and calculates a typical outcome, Jasprit Bumrah is by far the best bowler of the ball tracking era.

Not sure who's the best, but do know that a fast bowling quartet of Ambrose, Bumrah, McGrath and Hadlee wouldn't leave you having to chase in the 4th innings too often (or even bat for that matter).

    Andy

To Dave and George... Surely we have to talk about Jimmy when talking about the best bowlers of all time. The man is THE fast bowler in history, wickets, matches and longevity!

    Crikey.

Ben Stokes' final delivery fires up off the pitch and lifts away, causing KL Rahul to duck away.

India were put under pressure when Shubman Gill got out but KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are building a partnership now. The game is still in the balance but this partnership will be key.

Jofra Archer is on after six overs with Durham 9-0.

He is appealing for a wicket first ball - that would have been a story - but the umpire says no to a catch down the leg side.

His first over is a maiden.

India need to get moving or they will bat themselves out of the game. Putting them in to bat seems to be a great decision.

Having taken a single from that drop, India's total goes up by one more from a Tongue wide as Pant ducks under the delivery.
