England need less than four an over from here... doable I would say.

    Target 371

Ben Duckett nudges a single first ball and then has some vital words to say to Zak Crawley, which may take 30 seconds or so to deliver.

Crawley then has to very deliberately take guard. He adds a single and - if England's openers play this right - there are only four balls left in the day.

  5. Eng 18-0published at 5 overs

    Target 371

Nice shot by Ben Duckett, a punch back down the ground.

Jasprit Bumrah gets a fingertip on it so it only brings two.

A clip through mid-wicket just beats the dive of Mohammed Siraj and England run three.

India want a couple more overs today so we're going to have an early look at Ravindra Jadeja, who gets through his overs faster than just about anyone in world cricket.

That's because most of the time he does.

The expectation of Jasprit Bumrah. Every time he has the ball in his hand, everyone and their uncle expects him to take a few.

  8. Eng 13-0published at 4.2 overs

    Target 371

    Ouch.

Ben Duckett gets an inside edge off Jasprit Bumrah that misses the pad on his back leg and hits the inside of his knee.

Painful... and a good way to waste a minute or so late in the day.

Nicely timed by Zak Crawley, not a great delivery from Mohammed Siraj.

Glorious. What a shot that is! That's when Zak Crawley looks so good.

  11. Eng 13-0published at 4 overs

    Target 371

Crunching drive from Zak Crawley, right out of the middle of the bat, and it bounces just short of the cover fielder. No run.

Four this time. Middled again. On the pads and Crawley cashes in through mid-wicket.

Four more! Wide and a touch short so Crawley helps it up and over gully.

That is the first time that Ben Duckett has ever left the first two balls of a Test innings.

  13. Eng 4-0published at 3 overs

    Target 371

Ben Duckett wasn't going to leave three deliveries in a row and turns the ball around the corner for one to get up and running.

Four dot balls from Jasprit Bumrah to Zak Crawley, who has been extremely watchful so far, follow.

A little under 15 minutes left in the day.

  14. How stat?!published at 18:14 British Summer Time 23 June

    • Crawley - 28.38

    • Brook - 21.33
    • Stokes - 69.28
  15. Eng 3-0published at 2.1 overs

    Target 371

Ben Duckett famously does not like to leave the ball.

He's left his first two, both bowled by Jasprit Bumrah, in this innings.

India's fielding needs to be much better than it was in the first innings.

  17. Eng 3-0published at 2 overs

    Target 371

Mohammed Siraj walked off looking suspiciously at his bowling hand after he was caught behind off the glove about 35 minutes ago.

However, he is all good to share the new ball and starts with a maiden to Zak Crawley. Just a hint of movement through the air.

Maybe I'm being naive but I really don't think England are massive underdogs here. Make it through to close without loss and we're on for a belting day tomorrow.

    Mark, London

Fascinating. If England bat sensibly, don't give their wicket away. On this pitch, they win. Come on, England.

  19. Eng 3-0published at 1 over

    Target 371

First ball from Jasprit Bumrah it's harmlessly wide of off stump and left well alone by Zak Crawley.

Three balls later there are big cheers as the England opener flicks through square leg to get off the mark with a two.

A single brings Ben Duckett on strike and he shoulders arms to a ball that comes back sharply and is not far away from that off stump.
