Slightly unnerving that the top order has collapsed for the second running where the majority of these players will form part of the top of order in Perth in a few weeks, even without the pressure of the Ashes.

    Anon.

I haven't given Will Young enough credit for the catch there. He's gone one-handed to his left and clung on while diving. Fair play.

Jamie Overton scored a decent 46 in the first ODI but he had Harry Brook for company that day. Now he joins Sam Curran.

A huge wicket. A huge moment in the game. The in-form Harry Brook throws his hands at it but Will Young takes a superb catch.

    Brook c Young b Santner 34 (Eng 105-6)

England are in all sorts now. Their skipper Harry Brook, the one batter to show form in this series, falls with a rare misplaced shot. He has slashed the spin of Mitchell Santner to backward point.

  5. Eng 105-5published at 23 overs

Sam Curran blocks back an over of Michael Bracewell. This is a chance for Curran to push his case.

Harry Brook has quick wrists and this is evident with his scoring patterns against pace this series. Around 50% of his runs against pace have come through the mid-wicket and square leg regions.

Those of you reading this are quiet. It's unnerving.

Harry Brook continues to be positive, this time swinging a ball down the leg side from Mitchell Santner over deep square leg for six. That's not a big hit down there.

Thanks Mike. As I join you Harry Brook biffs another four. At the moment they're at risk of being a one-man batting line-up.

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner brings himself into the attack as his side look to press their advantage.

Meanwhile Sam Curran is the latest batter to start his innings at the non-striker's end - three of England's wickets have fallen to the last ball of the over, two to the first.

Harry Brook immediately brings his new partner on strike, and Curran gets off the mark with a single to mid-wicket.

Right, here's Matthew Henry to see you through the next period of play.

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 19 overs

    Buttler lbw b Smith 9 (Eng 81-5)

The review doesn't save Jos Buttler.

Nathan Smith's delivery is predicted to clip the bails - England will retain their review for umpire's call, but they've lost another batter.

The ball nipped in a touch and hit Buttler fairly high on the pads as he tried to turn the ball into the leg side.

The umpire's finger is in the air!

Nathan Smith has caught Jos Buttler on the pads, and the England batter is unsurprisingly going to get this reviewed.

Harry Brook and Jos Buttler aren't the types to retreat into their shells.

England's captain thrashes Blair Tickner through point for four, before his predecessor in the position launches the over's penultimate delivery onto the grass bank at mid-wicket for six.

  13. Eng 65-4published at 17 overs

Here comes Jos Buttler, much earlier than he'd have preferred.

He gets off the mark from his third delivery, turning Nathan Smith behind square.

England have scored one boundary since the eighth over.

Something always happens after the drinks break! We've already seen it in this series that it breaks the concentration. Nathan Smith bangs it in and Jacob Bethell takes it on, but doesn't get anywhere near the middle of the bat and it's a comfortable catch in the deep.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 16.1 overs

    Bethell c Foulkes b Smith 18 (Eng 63-4)

Jacob Bethell falls straight after drinks!

He'd dropped the ball just short of square in the previous over, and now he lifts Nathan Smith's ball straight to Zak Foulkes in that position.

It's a big lofted pull, not much power on it, a poor shot.

  16. drinks break

    Eng 63-3published at 16 overs

The start of Blair Tickner's run-up is pretty remarkable.

He prances on the spot for about 12 steps, ball held almost in front of his face, before heading towards the wicket.

One single off his over, as Jacob Bethell pulls just short of Will Young at deep square.

The players will take drinks in Hamilton.

    Textbook cover drive.

Harry Brook greets Nathan Smith's delivery with a classic high elbow, sending the ball racing away to the cover boundary.

  19. dropped catch

Well, that would have been a spectacular grab.

Harry Brook drives Blair Tickner's penultimate delivery aerially towards mid-off, where New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner performs a mighty leap.

He seems to hang in the air as he gets his outstretched left hand on the ball, but can't quite hold on.

    Four saved, though.

  20. Eng 54-3published at 13 overs

So here's Harry Brook - he salvaged England's innings with 135 in Mount Maunganui on Sunday, and will need to rebuild again in Hamilton today.

The England captain doesn't get to face Nathan Smith until the final ball of the over, which he defends.
