Blair Tickner has frustrated Joe Root and he's just walked across and got a little tickle on that down leg side. A great catch by Tom Latham. Root will be frustrated to go for 25 off 34 deliveries.

Blair Tickner picks up a wicket on his return to ODI cricket - and it's Joe Root!

The right-arm seamer comes on for his first over in international 50-over cricket since May 2023, and fires a couple down the leg side.

Joe Root expects these to be called wide, but the umpire seems to suggest he moved across his stumps.

The last ball of the over is also heading down leg, Root goes to help it to the boundary and tickles a catch to wicketkeeper Tom Latham.

England in trouble again - although not quite as bad as Sunday, when they were 56-6 in the 12th over.

Conditions have been quite different here at the Seddon Park compared to Bay Oval. There has been considerably less movement in the air and off the pitch for New Zealand's seamers in the first 10 overs today compared to the first ODI.

    In the first powerplay:

    Average swing: 1st ODI - 1.31° Today - 0.69°

    Average seam: 1st ODI - 0.89° 2nd ODI - 0.57°

Jacob Duffy continues as the fielders go back, and he picks up his second maiden of the day bowling to Jacob Bethell.

Zak Foulkes might be a relatively new name to English cricket fans, but he has had spells with Durham and Birmingham Bears in recent seasons.

Less well known, the Kiwi seamer had a stint playing for Lytham in Division One of the Liverpool & District Competition in 2024 where he picked up 30 wickets in 15 games at an average of 11.50.

He also liked a pint of the black stuff by the looks, as well...

Maybe Zak Foulkes was reading between overs, as his latest effort costs just two runs.

They go to Joe Root, turning the ball out to backward square off the over's penultimate delivery.

That's the end of the powerplay and New Zealand come out on top.

England found the boundary on six occasions, largely looking classy when they did so, but only reached the ropes in three of the 10 powerplay overs - otherwise, New Zealand have looked in control.

Only a couple of singles off Jacob Duffy's fifth over.

Duffy's been far more parsimonious than Zak Foulkes - he's gone for 16 to his opening partner's 31.

The surface looks a bit two paced to me. England's batters are struggling to drive down the ground at the moment. New Zealand's bowlers are just trying to draw that false stroke.

  9. Eng 45-2published at 8 overs

Jacob Bethell starts Zak Foulkes' over with a three to mid-wicket.

It's a bouncer next up from Foulkes, and Joe Root gets on top of it to pick-up four at backward square.

A single brings back Bethell, and he feasts on a wide-ish delivery from Foulkes, sending it searing to the ropes at backward point.

  10. Eng 32-2published at 7 overs

Jacob Bethell starts at the non-striker's end, but comes on strike as Joe Root cuts Jacob Duffy to third.

He gets off the mark from his third delivery, taking a single in a similar area to Root earlier in the over.

The wicket of Jamie Smith is Zak Foulkes' fourth wicket in the first powerplay in this series. He has bowled 66% dot balls and has taken a wicket once every 12 deliveries in this phase.

Jamie Smith was looking to be aggressive, looking to go leg side, to a three-quarter seam delivery, which shapes away from Zak Foulkes and he ends up top edging into skywards. Kane Williamson does well to hold on to the catch and England are in a bit of trouble.

    Top edged... and taken!

A Joe Root single off Zak Foulkes' penultimate delivery brings and Jamie Smith on strike for the first time in the over.

The opener goes to launch the ball over mid-wicket, but skews it high in the air on the off side.

It falls to Kane Williamson at point, who changes his hand position last minute and takes the catch with a dainty little twirl in the follow-through.

For the second match in a row, both England's openers are dismissed inside the powerplay, although they at least made it past the second over this time.

  14. Eng 26-1published at 5 overs

Just a single off Jacob Duffy's third over, with Joe Root sending his third delivery out to deep third.

It's looking somewhat breezy in Hamilton, with the wind ripping the roof of a gazebo on the boundary.

    Hello there, Jamie Smith.

The England opener powerfully pulls Zak Foulkes through mid-wicket for four, then finishes the over with a casual six over backward square.

    Easy as you like.

Joe Root arrives at the crease and, as ever, quietly sets about his business.

He finishes Jacob Duffy's over with consecutive fours, working the ball off his pads through backward square, then driving through the covers.

Excellent from Jacob Duffy. Beautiful seam position and it just nibbles away. Ben Duckett has not done a lot wrong, but it just goes across him and takes the edge.

    Ben Duckett goes early again!

The England opener was dismissed by Zak Foulkes in the second over on Sunday for two, today he goes for one in the third.

Jacob Duffy finds a fine edge with the first delivery of the over and it carries through to Tom Latham behind the stumps.

Having been undone by a good delivery, Duckett trudges off.

  19. Eng 3-0published at 2 overs

Right-armer Zak Foulkes starts round the wicket to Ben Duckett and troubles the England left-hander with his firs few deliveries, finding a leading edge that drops safe.

Duckett charges the seamer's fourth delivery and edges wide of the slips to get England's day up and running, before Jamie Smith times the ball well through the covers for two.

  20. Eng 0-0published at 1 overs

Jacob Duffy starts with a maiden.

With Jamie Smith facing all six balls of the opening over, Ben Duckett has been stood at the non-striker's end.

He'll now face Zak Foulkes, who takes the ball for the second over.
