There's not a cloud in the sky as the players make their way to the middle after the anthems.

England will be happy to be batting first and hoping that it becomes cooler for their bowlers later, while South Africa should be more accustomed to this heat.

Tammy Beaumont and Sophia Dunkley are out first for England, facing Marizanne Kapp.

The wicket at Kimberley is usually quite crumbly so it will be interesting to see how England adapt to batting first here.

  4. Postpublished at 11:56 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

England batter Tammy Beaumont: "I'm getting a bit more used to it now, coming in and out of tours, but it's great to join a team off the back of a series win.

"The wickets have had good bounce and carry so far from what I've seen but we'll have to take our time and assess out there today because it's a new venue for us.

"There was a lot of reflection after the World Cup but they have learned really quickly, that's the thing with international cricket because you have to move on straight away."

  5. Postpublished at 11:53 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

South Africa all-rounder Marizanne Kapp: "It is difficult [to miss the T20s] but we have to give the youngsters a go, they need that exposure. We owe it to ourselves and our fans now, to put on a good performance in this ODI series.

"I always feel the pressure and the team looks to me, but I pride myself on that. I want to be the one to win games for my country.

"England played some dominant T20 cricket and hopefully that woke us up a bit, you have got to be in the fight otherwise a good team like that will walk all over you."

  6. Kapp back for SA, Bouchier out for Englandpublished at 11:50 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

A huge boost for South Africa with star all-rounder Marizanne Kapp returning, and Ayabonga Khaka back to lead the bowling attack after they were rested for the T20s and their experience was sorely missed.

At the top of the order is skipper Laura Wolvaardt, the leading run-scorer in women's ODIs this year.

For England, Tammy Beaumont takes her usual place as opener and is joined by Sophia Dunkley, as Maia Bouchier injured her neck during the warm-up. There's no place for Kate Cross, with England opting for Lauren Bell and Lauren Filer as their seamers.

  7. Teamspublished at 11:46 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

South Africa: Laura Wolvaardt, Tazmin Brits, Annerie Dercksen, Suné Luus, Marizanne Kapp, Chloé Tryon, Nadine de Klerk, Sinalo Jafta (wk), Nonkululeko Mlaba, Ayabonga Khaka, Ayanda Hlubi.

England: Tammy Beaumont, Sophia Dunkley, Heather Knight (capt), Nat Sciver-Brunt, Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Amy Jones (wk), Alice Capsey, Sophie Ecclestone, Charlie Dean, Lauren Filer, Lauren Bell.

  8. England win the toss and batpublished at 11:43 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

Heather Knight opts to bat first in Kimberley, perhaps a little surprising considering England's unfamiliarity with the conditions having never played at this venue before.

There was some confusion, with the toss not shown on TV and England reported to be bowling first, but the tourists are going to have a bat.

It looks very warm there, with some fans seeking shade underneath the trees that surround the ground. Not jealous at all!

  9. Welcomepublished at 11:30 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2024

    Good morning!

The T20 leg of England's tour of South Africa is complete, with Heather Knight's side comfortably winning 3-0 for the perfect post-World Cup response.

It's now time for the ODIs, a format which England haven't played for a while so this will be interesting, and we're hoping for a stronger showing from the Proteas, too.

We'll bring you the team news and result of the toss shortly.
