    Ecclestone c de Klerk b Dercksen 17 (Eng 173-8)

    Partnership broken!

It is a pretty rotten short and wide delivery from Annerie Dercksen - and Sophie Ecclestone cannot resist.

She leaps off the back foot attempting a lofted cut but a leaping Nadine de Klerk makes a stunning catch at point.

This is a fine partnership and England are putting up a fight. Charlie Dean is doing a solid job but South Africa are mixing their pace well, bowling into the 70 mph region.

  3. Eng 172-7published at 35 overs

There's warm applause from the England bench as Sophie Ecclestone cuts Nadine de Klerk through to covers for four.

De Klerk then offers up a juicy full toss that Ecclestone clatters to the boundary.

Ten off the over. Laura Wolvaardt is looking pensive.

  4. Eng 162-7published at 34 overs

Charlie Dean is warming up nicely here. A lovely cut off the back foot through point and a powerful through deep square brings two boundaries to bring up the 50 partnership.

Another sweep then clips the top edge, flying over the wicketkeeper's head and away for another four.

This is turning into quite the salvage job.

This feels a bit passive from South Africa; they could definitely be doing more with the position that they are in. Charlie Dean is really enjoying defending everything back to the bowler.

  6. Eng 149-7published at 33 overs

Sophie Ecclestone is being very disciplined here. I'm sure she just wants to give the ball a good wallop but is playing to the match situation perfectly.

England have drawn the sting out of the game and suddenly 200 looks a viable target.

  7. Eng 148-7published at 32 overs

After beginning the over with another wide, Nonkululeko Mlaba opts for a change of angle by bowling over the wicket.

It does little to worry England, initially, but she tosses one up to end the over that lures Charlie Dean into a wafty drive that very nearly snares the edge.

England would be happy with 200 at this point. Mentally, that is what these two need to aim for and just keep ticking singles off.

Charlie Dean will be relishing this experience, whereas Sophie Ecclestone will not be enjoying it at all.

  9. Eng 144-7published at 31 overs

Dare I say it, but Charlie Dean and Sophie Ecclestone are doing a decent job here as they nudge six singles off the returning Nadine de Klerk.

    The partnership currently worth 38.

  10. Eng 138-7published at 30 overs

Nonkululeko Mlaba goes for that fullish leg-side delivery that Charlie Dean attempts to sweep, but it the ball misses the bat, squirts past Sinalo Jafta and races the boundary for five wides.

England will take all they can at the moment.

Nonkululeko Mlaba will continue after the drinks break.

I am so pleased to see Kapp back on, but it is 20 balls too late in my opinion.

It's good to see Marizanne Kapp back on. She is just trying to bowl straight here, unlike with the new ball at the beginning, and you can see her fuming with every ball when it doesn't go her way.

  14. Eng 132-7published at 29 overs

A few leg-side looseners from Marizanne Kapp are clipped away nicely by Charlie Dean to the fine leg boundary.

Ten from the over in total. Kapp is absolutely furious with herself, which is not necessarily a good thing for England.

It looks bakingly hot in Kimberley so I'm sure the players are welcoming the upcoming drinks break.

Marizanne Kapp is returning to the attack.

She is 3-14 from her four overs so far.

  16. Eng 122-7published at 28 overs

Charlie Dean and Sophie Ecclestone work Nonkululeko Mlaba around for three singles, which has to be the approach with so much time left.

As our colleagues at Cricviz mentioned earlier, the average first innings score here is 199. That has to be the target.

  17. Eng 119-7published at 27 overs

Chloe Tryon bowls a horribly short delivery that Charlie Dean very nearly cuts straight to the cover fielder, but is has just enough elevation to evade them and scamper to the rope.

At the end of the over we see a short of a spectator holding a rather forlorn umbrella that has been turned inside out in the stiff breeze billowing across the ground.

    I've been there.

England's middle to lower order are really equipped, however players like Sophie Ecclestone don't quite have the temperament to see the innings through to the end. This will be a good opportunity for them to just get experience at the crease.

  19. Eng 114-7published at 26 overs

Sophie Ecclestone joins Charlie Dean at the crease and is very nearly out third ball as an inside edge narrowly misses the stumps.

A wide delivery then brings four wides, but Mlaba continues to target that leg-side line into the pads.

Surely it is time for Marizanne Kapp to come back into the attack?

That is an excellent review from South Africa. It looked as though it came off something solid with the speed it went towards fine leg, which turned of to be the thigh pad. England will be struggling to get to 150 now.
