It's been another runs-filled day in the County Championship, six-fors by Jack Leach and Corey Rocchiccioli notwithstanding, and we have our first result with Middlesex inflicting a first defeat of the season on Division Two leaders Leicestershire.

Hampshire have been forced to follow-on by Worcestershire and Durham will almost inevitably have to do so against Surrey despite Alex Lees' 125.

Meanwhile, Yorkshire are in a good position against Essex after Matthew Revis' 150 and Lancashire need seven wickets to beat Derbyshire at Chesterfield.

There are some good finishes in store so please join us from 10:30 tomorrow for coverage of the final day's action.

    Don Topley
    BBC Essex

Yorkshire have had a fantastic day because we didn't know which way the game would go.

I was little concerned by Essex's plans, their body language and their execution. They drifted and allowed Ben Coad to have easy singles because they wanted to bowl at him rather than Matthew Revis.

Shane Snater tried his heart out and bowled nicely.

I just didn't happen for Essex but from lunchtime, it happened for Yorkshire.

  4. Close of play at the Kia Ovalpublished at 18:42 British Summer Time 1 July

    Surrey 820-9 dec v Durham 343-9

Brave effort from Ben Raine, visibly wincing at times as he plays out the penultimate over from Dan Worrall.

Surrey pull in a cluster of close fielders for the final six balls from Matt Fisher, a couple of which are dug in short at Daniel Hogg but the Durham tailender defends bravely, taking a blow on the body in the process.

Hogg responds by slamming a boundary through gully and the efforts of the last pair mean they'll get to come back in the morning, forcing Surrey to use up more time in their quest for victory.

  5. 'Worcestershire will be pleased'published at 18:41 British Summer Time 1 July

    Close: Hampshire 221 & 86-3 f/o v Worcestershire 679-7 dec

    Dave Bradley
BBC Hereford & Worcester cricket commentator

Worcestershire will be pleased with themselves.

It's hard work, they've taken 10 wickets in the day but you have to work hard for them on this surface.

They will be hoping to take seven more tomorrow.

  6. Close of play at Canterburypublished at 18:41 British Summer Time 1 July

    Kent 566-8 dec v Northants 624-6

After being on the receiving end for much of the first two days, it's been one to remember today for Northants at Canterbury.

Calvin Harrison (122) and Justin Broad (107 not out) hit maiden centuries, and Saif Zaib reached an unbeaten 150 off 175 balls with a reverse sweep for a single from the final ball of the day's play.

He and Broad, whose century only took 84 balls, have put on exactly 200 for the seventh wicket - a club record against Kent, beating the 150 by George Vials and John Seymour at Tonbridge in 1912.

Northants lead by 58 but with only one day left, a draw looks to be favourite.

  7. 'Sussex will need help from the pitch tomorrow'published at 18:37 British Summer Time 1 July

    Close: Sussex 533 v Warwickshire 415 & 88-1

    Mike Taylor
    BBC WM commentator

I think Warwickshire will have to proceed with a degree of caution until lunch tomorrow but if they don't lose substantial amount if wickets in the morning session they'll be pretty confident of getting safe from here.

If they do end up with a draw and a solid draw, having lost a senior bowler right at the start of what was always going to be a long shift in the field, I suppose they will think that's not a bad job.

The onus was on Sussex at the start of the day to try and set up a winning chance and they still sort of have. They had 24 over to go tonight, they've got one wicket and would have hoped for more. They'll need some help from the pitch tomorrow I think if they're to get it.

Noah Cornwell wraps up a resounding win for Middlesex as Sam Wood skies one and wicketkeeper Joe Cracknell takes the catch.

Left-armer Cornwell finishes with 3-60 in the second innings - and Leicestershire lose their unbeaten record in emphatic fashion, beaten by an innings on their own turf.

  9. Postpublished at 18:32 British Summer Time 1 July

    Leics 205 & 201-9 v Middx 534

Last man Sam Wood has decided to have some fun, with the outcome of the game inevitable - and he hoists Zafar Gohar for two big sixes to bring up the 200 for Leicestershire.

Wood is 27 not out, with Logan van Beek on 35 - and Middlesex have six more overs scheduled to capture that final wicket and seal victory.

  10. Close of playpublished at 18:29 British Summer Time 1 July

    Sussex 533 v Warwickshire 415 & 88-1

Sussex have done all they can to try and prise another wicket before stumps, but Warwickshire go into the final day with nine wickets standing and just 31 behind.

Alex Davies will resume in the morning unbeaten on 48 with Tom Latham 18* after a patient supporting innings in a stand of 66 following Rob Yates' dismissal, losing his middle stump to a sublime Ollie Robinson ball.

James Coles hit 150 earlier as the hosts amassed a first innings lead of 118,despite six wickets for tireless Aussie spinner Corey Rocchiccioli, but the hosts were only able to secure six bonus points, one more than Bears, in a game which looks likely to end in a draw.

    Clark b Worrall 30 (Surrey 820-9 dec v Durham 335-9)

Graham Clark's resistance comes to an end as Dan Worrall brings one careering back into his stumps to collect his fourth wicket of the innings.

That means Ben Raine, who went off injured midway through the first day, is now limping to the middle, along with a runner, to try and deny Surrey the luxury of enforcing the follow-on tonight.

There are three overs and one ball remaining.

Justin Broad turned 25 yesterday - and what a way to celebrate, with a maiden first-class hundred.

He reaches it from just 84 balls with a sweep for one off Jaydn Denly, and has hit 13 fours so far.

Who was the last Germany-born player to make a hundred in the County Championship? Answers on a postcard, please.

*Possibly former Sussex opener John Barclay?

  13. 600 up for Northantspublished at 18:26 British Summer Time 1 July

    Kent 566-8 dec v Northants 600-6

Justin Broad pushes Matt Parkinson for a single and Northants reach 600 in their first innings.

Kent have really suffered in this final session with Broad and Saif Zaib, who is 136 not out, adding 177 for the seventh wicket.

  14. Close of play at Southamptonpublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 1 July

    Hampshire 221 & 86-3 f/o v Worcestershire 679-7 dec

    Another fine day for Worcestershire.

The Division One basement boys have taken 10 wickets on the third day and need seven more on the final day if they are to secure a famous win.

Despite Tilak Varma's 56 in Hampshire's first innings, his side collapsed when the young India star ran himself out attempting a risky single and were dismissed for 221, 458 short of the Pears's mammoth first innings total.

Ali orr trod on his stumps, Fletcha Middleton mis-cued to cover and Nick Gubbins was bowled by a pearler from Callum Parkinson to leave the hosts needing to bat out the final day, still 372 short of making Worcestershire bat again.

  15. 'Notts will be positive and draw is in Somerset's hands'published at 18:23 British Summer Time 1 July

    Close: Somerset 379 & 4-1 v Nottinghamshire 509

    Melinda Farrell
Sports broadcaster/journalist on BBC Radio Somerset

The pitch hasn't really shown any signs of breaking up and offering as much assistance to the spinners as you might sometimes expect down here after four days of warm and sometimes hot weather.

But a lot of it is in Somerset's hands really and how stout they can be in just keeping things moving along, not getting bogged down and not giving up any wickets.

I think Notts will be positive, they are the only ones in a position to win this match but I don't think it's going to be easy.

I still reckon Somerset are odds on for a draw as long as they don't do anything silly.

  16. Close of play at Yorkpublished at 18:21 British Summer Time 1 July

    Yorks 459 v Essex 368 & 33-3

Simon Harmer survives the final over from George Hill, with a couple whizzing just past his outside edge - but Essex are well and truly under the pump.

Hill has one wicket and Ben Coad - who earlier hit a career-best 89 - two in this second innings, with Essex still trailing by 58 going into the final day.

  17. Close of play at Cardiffpublished at 18:20 British Summer Time 1 July

    Glamorgan 528 v Gloucestershire 380 & 12-0

Gloucestershire's openers survived 11 overs to the close at Sophia Gardens after Glamorgan piled up a big total in their first innings.

Ben Kellaway (139) and Colin Ingram (117) were the mainstays as the home side built a lead of 148, with Chris Cooke contributing 75.

Cameron Bancroft and Joe Phillips reduced that by 12 before stumps, but the visitors will have to guard against losing early wickets or they could face an uncomfortable final day.

  18. Close of play at Chesterfieldpublished at 18:19 British Summer Time 1 July

Derbyshire 139-3 - target 513 to beat Lancs

Lancashire require seven wickets on the final day to secure their first win in nine Division Two matches this season.

If Derbyshire are to remain unbeaten they will need to score 374 runs, or bat through 96 overs, providing there are no weather interventions.

Ashton Turner's unbeaten 121 and quickfire half-centuries from keaton Jennings, Michael Jones and George Balderson helped Lancashire declare on 406-6 inside 74 overs - setting their hosts 513 to win.

Wayne Madsen and Brooke Guest have ridden their luck but will return in the morning on 39* and 21* respectively.

The final day should be box office.
