    McManus c and b Denly 13 (Kent 566-8 dec v Northants 424-6)

The follow-on has been averted but Northants lose their sixth wicket as Lewis McManus chips a return catch to Jaydn Denly from a leading edge. Denly now has 2-30 from nine overs.

  3. Postpublished at 144 overs

    Somerset 379 v Notts 459-5

Easy pickings for Lyndon James, with no slips in place.

A little bit of width from Matt Henry and he just dabs it down to third man for four.

    He is 48 not out.

for Chris Cookepublished at 16:29 British Summer Time

    Glamorgan 474-7 v Glos 380

We've seen that reverse sweep a few times today and it brings Chris Cooke a single off Miles Hammond which takes him to 50 from 103 balls. Glamorgan lead by 94.

  5. Australian knows how to use Kookaburra ballpublished at 16:29 British Summer Time

    Surrey 820-9 dec v Durham 278-6

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

We said on air earlier you have about a 15-over window of opportunity to take wickets when the new ball comes along. Yet within the first seven overs of its introduction, Australian Dan Worrall had taken three with it.

Prior to that Ollie Robinson and Alex Lees had put on 152 runs, but Worrall yorked Robinson on 79, in the third over of the new ball's life, removing his middle stump in the process.

An over later Lees edged behind on 125 and Jimmy Neesham then clipped one to Will Jacks in the slips on one, in Worrall's next over, as Durham lost 3-7 in 3.5 overs. It has set them back massively.

Tea will be a welcome distraction for the visitors. But how they rescue this game from here, is anyone's guess.

  6. Postpublished at 16:29 British Summer Time

    Yorks 410-8 v Essex 368

Both of these Yorkshire batters can now boast career-best scores, with Matthew Revis on 114 and Ben Coad with an entertaining 76 to his name.

How far can they extend this first-innings lead? It's currently a very useful - and perhaps unexpected - 42, but if they can stretch it a bit further Essex could find themselves under real pressure second time around.

  7. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 141.2 overs

    Somerset 379 v Notts 450-5

A short ball from Matt Henry and Jack Haynes pulls it over square leg for a maximum.

Kasey Aldridge leaps in vain on the boundary edge but can't reach the ball.

Haynes cover drives for four later in the over as the Notts total reaches 450 - he is 142 not out, equalling his career-best.

  8. wicket

    Carson c Davies b Rocchiccioli 28 (Sussex 513-8 v Warwickshire 415)

Corey Rocchiccioli has 4-165 in his 53rd over.

Jack Carson departs after edging straight to leg-slip Alex Davies, who takes a low catch.

Carson isn't sure it was clean and waits an age before the getting the nod to depart.

Two wickets in eight balls after tea.

Warwickshire need two more to get off the field, currently trailing by 98.

    Hudson-Prentice c Smith b Barnard 45 (Sussex 513-7 v Warwickshire 415)

    No half-century for Fynn Hudson-Prentice.

He shapes to drive Ed Barnard down the ground but can only get a faint inside edge through to Kai Smith who takes a good catch falling to his left.

The lead is 98 with three wickets remaining, with Ollie Robinson joining Jack Carson.

Surrey are well on top at tea as George Drissell goes to pull Matt Fisher and skies to mid-on from the final ball of the session.

That big stand between Alex Lees and Ollie Robinson seems a long time ago now.

  12. Postpublished at 16:18 British Summer Time

    Hampshire 221 & 10-0 f/o v Worcestershire 679-7 dec

After just two runs from the opening four overs, Hampshire pick up back-to-back boundaries.

Ali Orr guides Tom Taylor through midwicket to find the rope and then chops away past point to add another from the next delivery.

  13. 'No fuss about Worrall'published at 16:17 British Summer Time

    Surrey 820-9 dec v Durham 284-6

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

As always with Dan Worrall, there's no great fuss, no great bother.

He just turns and then comes in off this arching run, you can see his footprints.

  14. Tea at Leicesterpublished at 16:17 British Summer Time

For context he bowled less than 40 of those in his 188-match Test career.

  17. 'Overton hasn't had much luck'published at 16:14 British Summer Time

    Somerset 379 v Notts 434-5

    Melinda Farrell
Sports broadcaster/journalist on BBC Radio Somerset

Craig Overton hasn't had much luck in this match.

He's bowled really well at times for not much reward.

  18. Tea at Canterburypublished at 16:13 British Summer Time

    Kent 566-8 dec v Northants 416-5

If Geoffrey Chaucer had been around now, you can bet he'd have found inspiration for The Ice Cream Man's Tale on a day like this at the Spitfire Ground.

Northants need one more run after tea to ensure they will not have to follow-on, so it has been very much job done by Darren Lehmann's side today.

Following Calvin Harrison's 122 and 55 by New Zealander Tom Robinsons, Saif Zaib has helped himself to an unbeaten 55 off 75 balls.

Kent have tried eight bowlers, with Matt Parkinson doing the lion's share - his 30 overs have produced figures of 1-123.

  19. 'Sussex surprise some supporters'published at 16:13 British Summer Time

    Sussex 509-6 v Warwickshire 415

    Mike Taylor
    BBC WM commentator

Sussex advanced their lead to 94 at tea without appearing to feel an urgent need to push the scoring rate, which has surprised some of their supporters – at least, some of those contacting the commentary box.

Perhaps they see more dangers in the pitch than have immediately been obvious. Fynn Hudson-Prentice, who might have been expected to force the pace had that been the policy, has so far batted with great care, so far indulging himself only by pulling one dragged-down delivery from Zen Malik for six.

James Coles trudged off wearily after touching a ball from Ethan Bamber to the wicketkeeper, shortly after receiving the applause for reaching 150, almost exactly 24 hours after he began. He had seldom seemed in any trouble.

Bamber and Ollie Hannon-Dalby bowled doggedly, working with some more imaginative field settings, to restrict both the scoring rate and potentially Sussex’s options for forcing a win from this point.

  20. Postpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time

Derbyshire 37-1 - target 513 to beat Lancs

Harry Came nudges Jack Blatherwick into the leg side to pick up the first runs of the evening session.

The vast majority of the 26 wickets to fall in this match have come in the opening half of the day. Derbyshire will hope to negotiate the 32 overs left on the slate today to see where they find themselves in the morning.

Jimmy Anderson, and Lancashire, will have other ideas...
