    Somerset 95-5 v Essex 156

No sign of spinner Simon Harmer in the attack and Sam Cook is back on.

Three slips are in. Lammonby leaves outside off.

The fourth ball is leg side but Lammonby can't connect with a glance.

Maiden over. 11 remaining in decent light.

  2. Bad light stops play at Headingleypublished at 18:04 3 May

    Yorkshire v Glamorgan 109-4

That might well be that at Headingley as bad light forces the players off.

Eight overs of the 17 that were scheduled when play restarted after the lengthy delay were possible.

I have no doubt Colin Ingram (7*) and Chris Cooke (5*) will be pretty pleased to be walking off.

    We've had 41 overs today.

  3. Postpublished at 18:01 3 May

    Somerset 95-5 v Essex 156

Lewis Gregory runs Shane Snater down to fine leg for a single.

Tom Lammonby shows the bat maker's name with some near-perfect forward defensive shots.

Lammonby keeps the strike, tucking a leg side ball away square for one more run.

  4. Postpublished at 17:56 3 May

    Somerset 93-5 v Essex 156

Noah Thain drops short and Gregory gets his first four with a back foot slap through wide long off.

Gregory is on the back foot pushing a single to deep mid wicket.

Two more for Lammonby steered through cover.

  5. 'A fascinating day's cricket'published at 17:54 3 May

    Somerset 77-5 v Essex 156

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

    It's been a fascinating day's cricket.

If Somerset can go in five down, maybe get 100 on the board, and then they can just get ahead a little bit.

But if a couple more wickets go, Somerset are out cheaply in the morning, they may not be in high spirits when they field again and it may be difficult to replicate the success they had this morning.

  6. Postpublished at 17:54 3 May

    Somerset 86-5 v Essex 156

A couple of leg byes first up in Shane Snater's over and then Lewis Gregory is beaten outside off stump.

He nods to the bowler out of respect.

Gregory gets a short leg side ball to tap away for a single and Tom Lammonby gets his first four with a perfect straight drive all along the ground.

  7. Postpublished at 17:53 3 May

    Yorkshire v Glamorgan 103-4

Colin Ingram is having to dig in here as Dan Moriarty wheels away.

He plays out five dots before finally getting off the mark to his 15th ball, nudging the ball wide of short leg for a single.

There's a few glances at the umpire out there querying the light.

Play on. Twelve overs to go.

  8. Postpublished at 17:49 3 May

    Somerset 77-5 v Essex 156

A big shout for LBW against Lewis Gregory, who is struck on the pad playing down the wrong line. Not out. Just outside the line?

    Frustration for Shane Snater.

A bowling change for Essex, who bring Noah Thain into the attack for the first time.

The first ball is loose down the leg side and ruled as a no ball.

A short ball is pulled away for a single by Gregory.

    Tom Lammonby defends the next.

A mixed over from Thain, costing four runs in total.

  9. WICKET Carlson c and b Bess 3published at 17:45 3 May

    Yorkshire v Glamorgan 97-4

The umpires have a word with Yorkshire skipper Shan Masood - no more pace in this light, thanks.

Instead, Dom Bess comes on to bowl and gets a wicket with his first ball!

He gives it some flight and Kiran Carlson can't resist, but drags his attempted drive straight back to Bess who takes a smart catch moving away to his right.

    Wicketkeeper Chris Cooke comes in.

  10. 'What terrible luck'published at 17:43 3 May

    Yorkshire v Glamorgan 97-3

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

    What terrible luck.

Yorkshire were immediately excited and they've got rid of the Glamorgan captain for 28.

Matthew Fisher was reacting instinctively but we have to give him some credit for just trying a little flick onto the stumps, we'll give him some credit for it.

Far from ideal batting conditions and Yorkshire will be happy with that and confident maybe of inflicting a little bit more damage on this Glamorgan innings in the evening gloom.

  11. Postpublished at 17:40 3 May

    Yorkshire v Glamorgan 97-3

Colin Ingram is the new man in after Sam Northeast's unfortunate run-out.

At the other end Kiran Carlson has a little dart at a Ben Coad delivery which nips away and beats the batsman outside off stump. A close shave.

    Maiden.

  12. Postpublished at 17:39 3 May

    Somerset 72-5 v Essex 156

Four slips lie in wait for Porter, who offers Tom Lammonby a bit of width but the Somerset number three leaves well alone.

He's very much in the anchor role, trying to see off the threat the joint leading Essex wicket taker, tied with Sam Cook.

Lammonby keeps the strike, driving with a thick inside edge to the on side for one.

  13. Postpublished at 17:34 3 May

    Somerset 71-5 v Essex 156

Shane Snater is back in the attack and Tom Lammonby plays and misses outside the off stump.

He connects with the third ball, driving to wide long off for three.

Lewis Gregory seemingly hits a ball straight to cover - but it's a bump ball.

  14. WICKET Northeast run out (Fisher) 29published at 17:32 3 May

    Yorkshire v Glamorgan 96-3

    Well, that didn't take long.

Sam Northeast takes a single from the first ball and perhaps will wish he hadn't.

Kiran Carlson plays a beautiful straight drive to the very next ball, but Matthew Fisher somehow deflects it on to the non-striker's stumps.

The Glamorgan skipper is out of his crease backing up.

  15. 'This is a pitch with movement'published at 17:31 3 May

    Somerset 68-5 v Essex 156

    Annie Chave
    BBC Somerset

This is a pitch that has got movement and the Essex bowling attack is very, very strong.

In the Nottinghamshire game the pitch still had a bit of life on the second day but it was on the third day it had nothing.

  16. Close of play at Old Traffordpublished at 17:31 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 203-7

Sadly, conditions remain damp and gloomy and the umpires have called time on Day One of this match.

A pity as this was a really interesting contest between two sides straining every sinew to get out of the bottom two spots on the table.

A brilliant spell from Balderson (3-62) played a key role in reducing Kent to 83-5 before a crucial stand of 69 between Joey Evison and Grant Stewart.

Two wickets each for Will Williams and Australian off spinner Nathan Lyon.

Evison remains unbeaten on 50 and his presence will be vital if Kent are to pick up batting points tomorrow.

  17. Play restartspublished at 17:30 3 May

    Yorkshire v Glamorgan

A sight we thought we may not see today, but the players are emerging at Headingley.

After such a long wait, the batters will not face a tricky final spell.

    Seventeen overs are scheduled.

    It's murky out there.

  18. Postpublished at 17:26 3 May

    Somerset 68-5 v Essex 156

Porter keeps Gregory quiet as the Somerset captain tries to pierce the filed off the back foot but he remains on nought for now.

Two successive maiden overs for Essex.

Lammonby gets a rare leg side ball from Sam Cook and taps the ball fine for one.

Gregory gets his first run off his 10th ball with a swipe to leg.

20 overs left tonight unless the weather intervenes.

  19. 'Essex are through the specialist batsmen'published at 17:19 3 May

    Somerset 66-5 v Essex 156

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Another disappointing performance from James Rew, he's been pinned lbw by Jamie Porter.

Essex are through the specialist batsmen.

We've got the all-rounders to come now - Lewis Gregory, Craig Overton, Migael Pretorius and Josh Davey.

So, the longer the day this day's cricket goes on the better that total is for Essex of 156.

  20. Postpublished at 17:18 3 May

    Somerset 66-5 v Essex 156

Essex are confident they have a sixth wicket but the appeal for caught behind off Jamie Porter is turned down and Lewis Gregory survives.

Another maiden from Sam Cook at the other end.
