  1. 'Three Essex seamers have started extraordinary'published at 16:20 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset 21-2 v Essex 156

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

An extraordinary start from the three Essex seamers.

Somerset don't want to lose any more wickets with the new ball. They need a partnership.

  2. Close of play at Lord'spublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 3 May

    Middlesex v Leicestershire

The rain has defeated everyone at Lord's with no play possible on day one.

The forecast is much improved over the weekend for what will now be an old-fashioned three-day championship match - remember them?

  3. rain stops play

Rain stops play in Manchesterpublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 186-6

This crucial session of play has been terminated, at least for now, by the weather.

Reportedly rain has made its way over from nearby Stockport and the players are led off the field by the umpires.

  4. Postpublished at 16:13 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset 21-2 v Essex 156

A bright start for Andy Umeed, who is down the track to his second ball, driving Porter through cover for four.

Looking to fight fire with fire, perhaps.

Lammonby is forward to Cook, defending into the off side.

  5. Pitch inspection at Headingleypublished at 16:11 British Summer Time 3 May

    Yorkshire v Glamorgan 95-2

Encouragement for Yorkshire and Glamorgan fans.

We've been off since the first over after lunch, but it has stopped raining.

The umpires have just been out to have a look and have confirmed a further inspection at 4.30pm. Hope that hasn't jinxed it.

  6. Play resumes at Old Traffordpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 184-6

A vital unbroken stand between Grant Stewart and Joey Evison.

Can they take it deep into this final session of play for today?

Nathan Lyon will start the session bowling to Grant Stewart.

  7. wicket

WICKET Dickson c Harmer b Porter 10published at 16:07 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset 15-2 v Essex 156

Plenty of tension here as Sean Dickson survives a close LBW call, where the ball might just have bounced over the top.

    Frustration for Sam Cook.

We had hoped for the cloud to lift here by now but it's hanging on and light may be an issue in the next hour or so.

Out! Length ball, driven and caught.

Dickson has run out of lives here as he nicks Jamie Porter to Simon Harmer at slip.

    Andy Umeed will bat next.

  8. 6 runs

Dickson attackspublished at 16:04 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset 15-1 v Essex 156

Another close call for Somerset as Tom Lammonby glances a ball from Jamie Porter just past Nick Browne on the leg side.

    Maiden over.

Nothing wrong with Sean Dickson's next shot though - a lofted drive off the bowling of Sam Cook which carries the ball over long on for six!

  9. 'Kent will be happier in this interval'published at 16:01 British Summer Time 3 May

    Tea: Lancashire v Kent 184-6

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

The 55-run partnership between Joey Evison and Grant Stewart will give Kent a much happier feeling in this interval compared to the lunch interval.

    A really good recovery.

  10. Postpublished at 15:57 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset 8-1 v Essex 156

A single apiece for Lammonby and Dickson off Sam Cook.

Dickson is nearly foxed by the fourth ball as he's anchored to the crease, playing and missing a cut.

Cook is getting the ball to nip in sharply off the seam and batting looks like very hard work at this stage.

  11. Postpublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset 6-1 v Essex 156

Jamie Porter and Sam Cook had 37 wickets between them this season prior to this match.

The quality of the new ball pair is plainly on show here as Lammonby is drawn to play and miss Porter outside off.

Lammonby gets a couple of runs off a straighter ball, turned into mid on.

  12. Teatime scoreboardpublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 3 May

    Division One:

Old Trafford: Lancashire v Kent 184-6

    Taunton: Somerset v Essex 156

    Division Two:

    Derby: Derbyshire 189-8 v Sussex

Lord's: Middlesex v Leicestershire - no play before tea

    Headingley: Yorkshire v Glamorgan 95-2

  13. Tea at Old Traffordpublished at 15:51 British Summer Time 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 184-6

Joey Evison safely negotiates the last over before tea as Luke Wells picks up a maiden.

Evison has moved on to 46 from 106 balls and Grant Stewart has made a brisker 35, from 46 balls, in a 55-run stand.

It's been a good last our for Kent - and boy did they need it!

  14. 50 runs

50 stand for Stewart and Evisonpublished at 15:48 British Summer Time 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 184-6

Tom Hartley offers up a gift and Grant Stewart accepts gratefully swatting a big six to bring up the fifty partnership between him and Joey Evison.

It looks to be digging Kent out of a sizeable hole.

One more over from Luke Wells before tea.

  15. wicket

WICKET Renshaw c Cox b Cook 1published at 15:47 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset 2-1 v Essex 156

Matt Renshaw survives a couple of close LBW calls.

It was never going to be easy against this attack, even with a low Essex first innings score on the board.

Sean Dickson gets a single off the first ball of the Sam Cook over - and Renshawhas gone!

Bizarre dismissal as he tries to play to leg off the back foot and gets a leading edge to Jordan Cox at mid off.

Renshaw departs to stunned silence from the home supporters and Tom Lammonby is in early.

  16. Somerset begin their first inningspublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 3 May

    Somerset 0-0 v Essex 156

Matt Renshaw and Sean Dickson will start for the hosts.

45 overs left tonight - if conditions allow.

Jamie Porter to bowl to Renshaw.

  17. Postpublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 173-6

Tidy stuff from Tom Hartley brings three singles as Joey Evison and Grant Stewart progress their useful partnership to 44 runs.

A decent fightback just as the Kent innings was heading south at a rate of knots.

  18. 'Somerset got what they were hoping for'published at 15:38 British Summer Time 3 May

Tea: Somerset v Essex 156 all out

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

Somerset will be delighted to have bowled Essex out so cheaply - exactly what they were hoping for when they won the toss this morning.

Tom Westley’s dismissal for 43 soon after lunch curtailed prospects of a significant Essex recovery as Migael Pretorious found significant movement to wrap the innings up with 4-36.

Somerset’s catching behind the wicket was exceptional.

The old adage of wait until both sides have batted may apply. Porter, Cook and Snater already have 52 wickets between them this season and will be confident of adding some more in these conditions over a long final session.

  19. Postpublished at 15:37 British Summer Time 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 170-6

Can Lancashire nip another one out in the last five overs before tea?

This is turning into a handy partnership for Kent.

Tom Bailey bowls wide of off stump and Joey Evison leaves it.

The last ball is short and pulled through mid wicket for four.

Evison is 41 not out. The partnership is also worth 41.

  20. 'Somerset will face a very tricky session'published at 15:35 British Summer Time 3 May

Tea: Somerset v Essex 156 all out

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

This pitch may flatten out but it hasn't flattened out yet and I fancy Somerset will face a very tricky little session when they come out to bat.
