    Somerset 66-5 v Essex 156

Tom Lammonby gets a single to long leg with a glance off the bowling of Jamie Porter.

Shot! James Rew is off the mark in style with a superbly timed push to long on for four.

But he's out next ball, playing around a ball in front of middle and leg.

Spuerb delivery, back of a length, seaming in from an off stump line.

Somerset are very much in the soup.

Their captain Lewis Gregory is in the middle now.

  2. Postpublished at 17:08 3 May

    Somerset 61-4 v Essex 156

Sam Cook beats the outside edge of James Rew to collective gasps from the home support.

Rew gets into line and plays defensively into the off side.

He tries an expansive off drive while anchored to the crease.

The pressure is really telling here. Another maiden over.

  3. Close of play at Derbypublished at 17:06 3 May

    Derbyshire 189-8 v Sussex

It's cats and dogs at Derby and the inevitable is confirmed - no more play on day one.

We managed 44.5 eventful overs in which time Derbyshire moved to 189-8 with Blair Tickner unbeaten on 22 and Jack Morley on five.

The wickets were shared around, with two apiece for England's Ollie Robinson and Fynn Hudson-Prentice.

  4. Postpublished at 17:05 3 May

    Somerset 61-4 v Essex 156

Jamie Porter is back into the attack from the Marcus Trescothick Pavilion End.

Essex Captain Tom Westley is really piling on the pressure with his best bowlers in the attack and four slips.

Tom Lammonby is beaten outside off with a beautiful late moving delivery.

He drives the fourth ball firmly to cover without clearing the field.

Maiden over. 25 overs left tonight - light and weather permitting.

  5. WICKET Banton c Critchley b Cook 4published at 17:00 3 May

    Somerset 61-4 v Essex 156

Tom Banton comes into this game in decent form with 216 runs and two half-centuries in the first four matches this season.

Somerset need another partnership and some sort of innings lead over Essex as the deficit dips just below 100.

Banton picks up his first runs (off his first ball) with a push just wide of the slip cordon and down to third man for four.

    He's out third ball!

Brilliant bowling from Sam Cook who squares Banton up with a ball angled in and seaming away.

Good grab by Matt Critchley low at third slip.

James Rew is in the middle next.

  6. 'Cook does the job again'published at 16:59 3 May

    Somerset 61-4 v Essex 156

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

Sam Cook has done the job again.

    Essex needed the wicket.

Somerset's thinking would have been to see out Cook's second short spell there because he's not had much of a break since the first spell. But now they have got to rebuild again.

Tom Lammonby is so important here you'd feel.

    Essex will keep chipping away.

    It's intriguing stuff.

  7. Play scheduled to restart at Headingleypublished at 16:56 3 May

    Yorkshire v Glamorgan 95-2

    Good news!

Play will be restarting at Headingley at 5.30pm, with 17 overs remaining. If it doesn't rain before then....

If it stays dry, Sam Northeast will resume on 28 with Kiran Carlson (2).

  8. 'Wells is a good slip catcher'published at 16:51 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 202-7

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

Luke Wells is a good slip catcher and he found the outside edge.

That ended a very good partnership that was well put together. It was much needed too for Kent.

  9. WICKET Umeed c Harmer b Cook 31published at 16:49 3 May

    Somerset 53-3 v Essex 156

    Sam CookImage source, Getty Images

    A promising innings is over.

Persistently good bowling from Sam Cook- who gets Andy Umeed stuck on the crease and fencing to Simon Harmer at second slip.

Sam Cook already has 20 wickets for the season.

Tom Banton is on his way to the middle.

  10. Rain stops play (again)published at 16:48 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 203-7

Wes Agar gets a thick edge wide of gully for two to take Kent past 200 in the 68th over - but one over later we're off the field again.

    Sigh.

  11. Postpublished at 16:46 3 May

    Somerset 52-2 v Essex 156

Andy Umeed continues to attack the short ball, this time lofting a Snater half tracker over mid wicket for four.

He gets four more with a beautifully timed front foot push to long on to take Somerset past 50 in the 16th over.

This is turning into a crucial stand for Somerset, who where 15-2 at one point.

  12. 'Bell-Drummond is a very calm pair of hands'published at 16:45 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 198-7

    Ben Watts
    BBC Radio Kent

Daniel Bell-Drummond is not someone who is going to be shouting and balling in the dressing room. He is a very softly-spoken individual.

I did speak to Jack Leaning on this and he said that Daniel Bell-Drummond is very much that kind of lead-from-the-front captain.

Two centuries this season already and a 70 against Surrey, so he's come into a decent bit of form with the bat.

He had a tough start to the summer last year but then he went mad in June and got the triple 100 against Northants, got a bunch of runs in the Blast and ended up with a 150 in the One Day Cup.

So he got 100 in all formats last year and had a really good end to the season.

I think he is a very calm pair of hands, but also someone that has been with Kent since the age of six or seven, he started playing at junior level stuff for Kent, so he's been there for so long and knows the club.

He is a great man to have take over Sam Billings as the club captain.

He probably wants a few more options at his disposal in terms of the bowlers which they've got back for this game which is nice.

We just need this rain to stay away.

  13. WICKET Stewart c Wells b Lyon 45published at 16:40 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 198-7

Lancashire break through and Nathan Lyon has his second wicket.

One ball after Joey Evison reaches 50, Grant Stewart departs, nicking the off spinner with a crooked bat off the front foot to Wells at first slip.

Wes Agar joins Evison in the middle.

  14. 50 for Joey Evisonpublished at 16:39 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 198-6

    Joey EvisonImage source, Getty Images

That's his third half century in four matches this season.

He's forward to Nathan Lyon, driving through cover for a single to complete the landmark off 114 balls.

    Seven fours.

  15. Umeed goes big againpublished at 16:38 3 May

    Somerset 42-2 v Essex 156

Umeed gets into a tangle against Snater as he tries to work the ball to leg and squirts the ball out into the off side.

Shot! Short and pulled over square leg for six.

Every Essex bowler deployed has been hit for a six now.

You would've got very long odds on the happening, surely.

  16. Postpublished at 16:35 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 195-6

Joey Evison gets a single first ball and Grant Stewart punches the fourth ball through cover for four.

One of the shots of the day.

Next ball is back of a length and swatted down to long on for four more.

A bright start for Kent and it looks like there's a bit less assistance for the bowlers now.

  17. Postpublished at 16:31 3 May

    Lancs v Kent 186-6

The players are coming back on the field.

Joey Evison resumes on 47 with Grant Stewart on 36.

Just 20 minutes or so lost as the local band of rain has largely missed Old Trafford.

George Balderson to bowl to Evison.

  18. Postpublished at 16:28 3 May

    Somerset 30-2 v Essex 156

First bowling change for Essex as Shane Snater comes on for Sam Cook in the 12th over.

He bowls a good line and length on off stump and Andy Umeed defends.

    Maiden over.

  19. Umeed in the moodpublished at 16:25 3 May

    Somerset 30-2 v Essex 156

Hello! Andy Umeed takes a liking to a short ball from Jamie Porter and smacks it high and handsomely over mid-wicket for six!

    Gorgeously timed neat swivel pull.

That was almost a catch for the residents of the neighbouring apartments.

  20. Postpublished at 16:21 3 May

    Somerset 23-2 v Essex 156

Tom Lammonby has been in a rich vein of form for Somerset leading up to this game - with 373 runs in four matches before today.

But this innings has been a grind amidst testing bowling to date, with five runs off 22 balls.

Jamie Porter tries to tempt him with a delivery back of a length outside off but he leaves it alone.

He gets hold of the fourth ball though, driving through wide mid off for two runs.

The sixth ball is a beauty, angled in and seaming away.
