So that brings a frustrating day to a close.

At least we did get some cricket in and thankfully Friday's forecast is better.

We'll be back in the morning at 10:15 BST.

    Hope to see you then!

  2. Close of play at Tauntonpublished at 18:28 British Summer Time 26 September

    Somerset 136 v Hants 62-5

More turn outside off stump for Jack Leach, who beats Felix Organ outside off.

Two slips and a forward short leg in for the Somerset and England spinner.

Hit on the pad leaving the ball but it's just outside off stump!

And again! Nervous times for Hampshire.

Organ is forward to block out the over and that's a wrap for day one.

Somerset were bowled out for 136 this afternoon with only Tom Kohler-Cadmore passing 50 on a wicket that has offered seam movement, occasional low bounce and more recently a hint of turn.

Jack Leach was the pick of the Somerset spinners with 3-9 and Hampshire's hopes are very much pinned on to Toby Albert, who battles through a tough session of play unbeaten on 38, having faced 89 balls.

    Somerset 136 v Hants 62-5

An appeal for a leg side catch by keeper James Rew off Archie Vaughan is turned down. Pad only there from Toby Albert.

The fifth ball is tossed up and driven through the off side by Albert for two more runs.

He survives the over squeezing out a straight ball on a full length.

Last over of day one coming up...

  4. Postpublished at 18:21 British Summer Time 26 September

    Somerset 136 v Hants 60-5

This is tough. Felix Organ is beaten on the forward block as Jack Leach gets the ball to fizz and turn away from the line of off stump.

Now Organ plays and misses on the back foot.

He leaves a wider ball outside off and blocks the last ball.

Two overs to go and Hampshire cannot afford another wicket tonight or ideally early tomorrow.

  5. Postpublished at 18:17 British Summer Time 26 September

    Somerset 136 v Hants 60-5

Toby Albert goes for the reverse sweep first ball and smacks it just behind square for four.

There's a hint of turn for Archie Vaughan as the next balls are blocked down the ground.

The last ball is pushed defensively into cover.

Three overs left till stumps on Day One.

  6. 'Big wicket'published at 18:16 British Summer Time 26 September

    Somerset 136 v Hants 56-5

He looks rather disgruntled does Liam Dawson.

But that is a big wicket for Somerset because Dawson has been in the form of his life with the bat.

It must have been an inside edge onto middle and leg.

  7. Postpublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 26 September

    Somerset 136 v Hants 56-5

Just the 15 wickets in the day today.

Felix Organ is forward, defending into the off side.

Jack Leach is round the wicket and Organ is back, steering the ball defensively into the on side.

Archie Vaughan takes over the bowling now from the Trescothick Pavilion End...

Toby Albert pushes Jack Leach to cover for a tight single.

Liam Dawson is on the back foot to Leach and the ball has clipped off stump!

He might have got a bit of bat or pad on that ball but it was too good for him nonetheless.

    Leach has 3-9!

    Felix Organ is in next.

  9. Postpublished at 18:10 British Summer Time 26 September

A single to Liam Dawson, pushing into deep cover on the front foot.

Albert keeps the strike with a single turned to long leg.

Joe Leach has a lot of goodbyes to make this week at New Road

While Jack Leach has been keeping busy this evening, his namesake Joe Leach had a quiet first day of his last game in professional cricket at Worcester.

He spent most of it in the pavilion, waiting for his turn to bat - which will now come tomorrow morning - if the overnight weather does not happen as forecast.

But he did venture out of the pavilion just before the delayed start of play against Lancashire when Worcestershire held a public presentation to mark the 33-year-old Staffordshire-born former Shropshire player's 13 seasons as a proud Pear.

He was clearly too moved at the time to say much but he had recovered by the end of the day to admit: "I’ve kind of sleepwalked into this week. I’ve not consciously ignored that it was coming, but today it has hit me hard.

"I was really nervous this morning. I was up really early and had butterflies in the stomach like it was my first game. But the fact we haven’t bowled yet has been a bit of a benefit and allowed me a bit of time to get my head around it.

"It was a lovely gesture from the club at lunchtime and it’s not going to be the first time this week I’m going to be close to tipping over the edge emotionally."

  15. Postpublished at 17:56 British Summer Time 26 September

    Somerset 136 v Hants 40-4

Liam Dawson is forward with a thick outside edge to deep third off Jack Leach for a single.

He has over 900 Championship runs and more than 50 wickets this season and goodness me, Hampshire need him at his best now.

Toby Albert keeps the strike with a single to deep cover.

    10 overs left tonight.

  16. Postpublished at 17:54 British Summer Time 26 September

    Somerset 136 v Hants 38-4

Dear me! This is getting a bit messy as Toby Albert sweeps Shoaib Bashir and top edges the ball over a lone first slip for three.

An LBW shout is turned down as Liam Dawson takes guard with a slip, leg slip and forward short leg for company.

Dawson gets a single off the fourth ball and Albert misses a sweep and survives another LBW shout.

Too leg side but this is a tough watch for Hampshire fans.

Albert is back to the third ball, defending back to the bowler.

He drives the fourth ball through the off side for one.

Tom Prest drives and is caught at extra cover by a diving Kasey Aldridge! Brilliant grab off the last ball of the over!

Liam Dawson is in at six for Hampshire.

  18. Postpublished at 17:46 British Summer Time 26 September

    Somerset 136 v Hants 33-3

Toby Albert tries a reverse sweep against Shoaib Bashir and swipes the ball neatly away square for four.

He goes back to block mode. Wicket maiden for Jack Leach.

  20. wicket

WICKET Vince c Abell b Leach 13published at 17:41 British Summer Time 26 September

    Somerset 136 v Hants 28-3

One slip in for Jack Leach, now bowling from the River End.

James Vince is back and across, playing safely into the off side.

Vince hits against the spin with an attempted heave to leg and he's caught off a leading edge at backward point.

    Tom Prest is in next.
