  2. Eng 135-8published at 17 overs

Saqib Mahmood goes for a succession of wild swings but gets no bat on it. Very much the shot of a tailender.

Adil Rashid shows him how it is done by smacking Josh Hazlewood back over his head for four.

The crowd who have stuck around on a chilly evening appreciated that.

Adam Zampa doesn't turn the ball loads but he's flummoxed Jamie Overton there. That's his trademark. Wicket to wicket and he's a clever bowler using his angles and flight.

  4. Eng 128-8published at 16 overs

Saqib Mahmood is the new batter as Adam Zampa wraps up his four-over spell with figures of 2-20.

An excellent night's work from the experienced leggy.

    Overton b Zampa 15 (Eng 128-8)

No blaze and no glory for Jamie Overton as he backs away from Adam Zampa, who follows him and the ball hits Overton's pads before rebounding onto the stumps.

Jamie Overton is not going to die wondering. This is the way of the England team now. If they are going down, it's going to be in a blaze of glory.

  7. Eng 126-7published at 15 overs

This has been a mightily impressive performance from Australia, that late innings wobble with the bat aside.

Jamie Overton, who didn't bowl, is looking to have some fun with the bat as he creams Cameron Green away for back-to-back fours.

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 14.1 overs

    Archer c Short b Green 1 (Eng 113-7)

It is a fairly wild swipe from Jofra Archer and the ball loops straight to Matt Short at mid-wicket.

    Start the car...

  10. Eng 113-6published at 14 overs

Oof, Josh Hazlewood very nearly chops Jofra Archer in half as he gets one to nip back sharply.

If England had any faint hopes of getting a result, Hazlewood has snatched it away.

The wicket of Liam Livingstone could be the one that seals the match for Australia. He's always dangerous.

  12. wicket

    Livingstone b Hazlewood 37 (Eng 108-6)

    Hazlewood strikes straight away!

Liam Livingstone is stuck on his crease from a length delivery from the Aussie quick and can only chop onto his stumps.

That is probably it for England.

  13. Eng 108-5published at 13 overs

Jamie Overton is the new batter and gets off the mark with a two off his first ball.

England in trouble and Australia look to turn the screw by bringing Josh Hazlewood back.

Frustration for England because that could have been the turning point to get into this over. That extra bit of bounce made it difficult for Sam Curran to control the shot and he tapped it to the fielder on the 45.

That was dug in a little shorter by Sean Abbott and Sam Curran could not get enough on it to clear the infield.

  16. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 12.4 overs

    Curran c Zampa b Abbott 18 (Eng 106-5)

This turning into quite the over...

Sam Curran completely miscues a pull and the ball loops to Adam Zampa at fine leg.

  17. Eng 106-4published at 12.3 overs

The crowd is starting to defrost now as Sam Curran clubs a short ball from Sean Abbott away for four.

Abbott's over then descends into farce as Liam Livingstone slices the ball to the rope off a no ball, before Abbott bowls back-to-back wides.

There is some relief for the Aussie seamer as the third free hit only costs a single.

  18. Postpublished at 21:32 British Summer Time 11 September

It was a difficult debut with the bat for Jacob Bethell, who was bowled by Adam Zampa for two.

England finding a bit of momentum with Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone. They are going to have to play some smart cricket to keep this going.

  20. Eng 93-4published at 12 overs

To butcher a Han Solo quote, never tell me the stats.

Sam Curran strikes back as he offered some width by Adam Zampa and powers the ball through the covers.
