England are starting to get into a little bit of trouble. It's not a big boundary, but he does not have enough to clear it.

  2. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 6 overs

    Salt c Short b Abbott 20 (Eng 46-3)

Phil Salt caught Short (ba-dum tss) and England are sinking.

Salt connects well enough with a pull shot but he perfectly picks out Matt Short, who is stationed on the rope and barely has to move.

Liam Livingstone has batted a lot up the order in franchise cricket. He made a hundred batting at five for England a few years ago, but has not had many chances up the order in international cricket.

  4. Eng 45-2published at 5 overs

Liam Livingstone comes out to join Phil Salt, who is looking in good touch.

He caresses the final ball of Xavier Bartlett's over to the rope for his fourth four of the innings.

It looked like the ball was just going to evade Tim David but at the last second his telescopic arms stretch out and he manages to clutch the ball. His team-mates were just as surprised he took it as everyone else.

A brilliant catch by Tim David. An absolute screamer with the amount of ground he had to make up.

  7. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 4.2 overs

    Cox c David b Bartlett 17 (Eng 40-2)

    Four and out!

That is a stunning from Tim David. Jordan Cox launched the ball into the dark Southampton sky and David was able to sprint from mid-on, watch the ball come over his shoulder and take a two-handed diving catch.

Cox's brief up and down innings is over.

  8. Eng 40-1published at 4.1 overs

    Nothing streaky about that!

Down on bended knee, Jordan Cox launches a slower ball from Xavier Bartlett over extra cover for four.

Streaky back-to-back boundaries from Jordan Cox on his international debut!

  10. Eng 34-1published at 4 overs

That will make England feel better. A touch full from Josh Hazlewood and Phil Salt clatters it through the covers.

A single brings Jordan Cox on strike and he gets away with TWO thick inside edges that miss the stumps and fly away fine for four. When your luck is in, Jordan.

A lovely cut by Salt through point to the rope then completes a fine over for England.

Hazlewood ruefully shakes his head, he cannot quite believe that was so expensive.

  11. Eng 16-1published at 3 overs

This is a very nervy start from Jordan Cox, who twice tries to launch Xavier Bartlett out of the ground but gets nothing on it.

England held the initiative after that brilliant recovery to bowl Australia out, but the tourists have wrestled it back.

The ball gets back so hard at you in white-ball cricket. It's pure reactions and instinct, and not something you call really practise in training.

  13. dropped catch

Cox dropped on onepublished at 2.1 overs

    Very nearly a second wicket!

It is a very tough caught and bowled chance for Xavier Bartlett as Jordan Cox lofts the ball back in his direction. Bartlett manages to get a hand on it but the ball doesn't stick.

Josh Hazlewood just follows Will Jacks, who steps outside leg stump to open his arms which forces him to hit it to the solitary field in the leg side. Jacks is outthought by some excellent bowling

  15. Eng 14-1published at 2 overs

Debutant Jordan Cox strides out to the middle and he immediately gets off the mark with a single down to deep third.

A brilliant start to the powerplay for Australia.

The crowd are silenced. Will Jacks trudges off and Australia's players are delighted.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 1.3 overs

    Jacks c Short b Hazlewood 6 (Eng 13-1)

    And Hazlewood strikes early!

Will Jacks backs away to try and give himself some room but Hazlewood follows him and cramps him, with Jacks only able to help it around the corner to Matt Short at deep backward square leg.

  18. Postpublished at 20:38 British Summer Time 11 September

The tall, thin frame of Josh Hazlewood is limbering up to open the bowling at the other end.

Where England could run into difficulty is if Australia make early inroads and expose some of those players making their debuts in this match.

  20. Eng 11-0published at 1 overs

    Target 180

Ooh, a thick edge from Phil Salt loops into the air but it just wide of the fielder at point. Frustration for Xavier Bartlett.

To rub salt in the wounds, the final ball of Bartlett's over is a touch short and Salt smashes it through mid-wicket for four.
