  1. Eng 34-0published at 8 overs

    Target 136

A maiden to start from Ayanda Hlubi.

There were a couple more near misses in there for Maia Bouchier, but crucially for England, she's still there.

  2. Eng 34-0published at 7.3 overs

    Target 136

Another bowling change, as Ayanda Hlubi comes into the attack.

Almost a wicket too, but Maia Bouchier's checked drive falls just short of mid-off.

  3. Eng 33-0published at 6.2 overs

    Target 136

Nadine de Klerk is into the attack for South Africa, and is met by a glorious lofted drive by Maia Bouchier.

    Four more.

Tammy Beaumont has played the low balls well and been able to force the bat down. She's also been able to guide the ball down to the third region, making the most of Ayabonga Khaka's wide balls.

It should be a relatively easy job for England to chase this down.

  5. Eng 29-0published at 6 overs

    Target 136

Maia Bouchier dances down the track at Khaka and belts a couple more through extra-cover, before a single ends the sixth over.

A productive one for England - 10 off it.

  6. Eng 24-0published at 5.3 overs

    Target 136

Ayabonga Khaka continues, but she loses her line and Tammy Beaumont carves through the off side for another boundary.

A very smooth start to this chase.

  7. Eng 15-0published at 4.1 overs

    Target 136

Marizanne Kapp fires in a yorker, but Maia Bouchier digs it out with a defiant straight bat.

  8. Eng 13-0published at 3.2 overs

    Target 136

Ayabonga Khaka bends her back and fizzes one past Tammy Beaumont's outside edge, but the next ball flies through the covers for four.

That was by no means a half-volley, but Beaumont hammered it away.

Marizanne Kapp is a master powerplay bowler. Since 2007 (where ball-by-ball data is available) she has 63 wickets in the first phase of the innings at an average of just under 24.

Only one bowler in ODIs has a better bowling record in this phase. Her former South African teammate Shabnim Ismail has 72 powerplay wickets at an average of 22.

South Africa are so consistent with the ball, they have one of the best opening partnerships in the world.

Ayabonga Khaka swings the ball in which is so threatening with the new ball, along with Marizanne Kapp, and both Bouchier and Beaumont can be susceptible to them.

  11. Eng 8-0published at 2.1 overs

    Target 136

On the money again from Marizanne Kapp, but Tammy Beaumont guides it down to third for a boundary.

    Nicely played.

  12. Eng 4-0published at 1.3 overs

    Target 136

Maia Bouchier gets England off the mark, turning a leg-side delivery through square-leg for four.

    Lovely timing.

Marizanne Kapp is right on the money from the first ball, and it looks as though the ball is keeping quite low. Tammy Beaumont is quite vulnerable to being dismissed lbw early in her innings and Kapp looks to being playing on that.

  14. Eng 0-0published at 1 over

    Target 136

A very tidy maiden from Marizanne Kapp to start the chase, targeting Tammy Beaumont's pads.

The diminutive England opener is up to the task though.

Unsurprisingly, winviz makes England heavy favourites to chase this down.

Tammy Beaumont and Maia Bouchier are out in the middle and we're not far from getting back under way.

Charlie Dean is the third woman to take an ODI hat-trick for England.

She follows Carole Hodges against Denmark in the 1993 World Cup and Clare Connor against India in 1999.

Lauren Filer's average speed today was just under 74mph - her highest average speed of any ODI to date of her England career.

More from Charlie Dean: "I struggled a bit at the start of my spell. There was a crosswind and that threw me a bit. It started to turn a bit and I settled into my spell.

"Getting a short-leg in for an one-day game is always fun. It won't be easy but hopefully we can cash in.

  19. Dean unaware of hat-trick?published at 10:31 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2024

    England need 136 to win

I'm not totally convinced Charlie Dean knows she's taken a hat-trick.

England didn't really celebrate it at the time, and she was just asked to talk through it on Sky.

"The first one skidded on and caught the edge, second one I wanted to hit the stumps and third ball I was just trying to hit a good length, but it missed the outside edge," she said.

Has she not realised she'd taken one in her previous over?

Lauren Filer set the tone nicely for the bowlers. England’s spinners then proved brutal, Dean and Ecclestone, and South Africa were never really able to fully re-establish themselves at all.
