  1. 'Batting has been hard work'published at 13:13 British Summer Time 4 May

    Lunch: Somerset 128 v Essex 156 & 95-4

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

The big question this morning was whether the pitch on which 20 wickets fell yesterday would flatten out under the influence of the roller and spring sunshine.

We now know the answer, which is 'not much'.

Batting has been hard work, against Somerset's exclusively seam-up attack, and Essex will be glad to go into lunch only four down, one of them the nightwatchman Sam Cook.

Their lead is now 123 with power to add, and Somerset won't fancy chasing much more than 200 - unless, of course, the pitch does indeed flatten out.

  2. Lunch at Old Traffordpublished at 13:12 British Summer Time 4 May

    Lancs v Kent 239-8

Nathan Gilchrist takes two almighty swipes at Luke Wells and doesn't connect with either.

The first prompts a few truncated shouts as it hits the batter's thigh and everyone misses the next which trundles down to the short fine leg boundary.

    And that's lunch.

Nathan Lyon took the one wicket to fall as overnight and morning rain reduced the morning session to 40 minutes on day two.

He removed Wes Agar for 13, but the good news for Kent is that Joey Evison remains at the crease.

He has added 11 to his overnight 50 and Nathan Gilchrist is unbeaten on six as Kent look to nail down a first batting point - they need 11 more runs.

  3. 'Both sides can take something out of this morning'published at 13:08 British Summer Time 4 May

    Lunch: Somerset 128 v Essex 156 & 95-4

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

I think both sides can take something out of this morning.

Somerset have picked up four wickets and three of them have been top-order batsmen.

And Essex have still got Cox and Critchley together.

Maybe the pitch is just starting to calm down a little bit.

It promises to be a fascinating afternoon.

  4. 'Brilliantly bowled from Lyon'published at 13:03 British Summer Time 4 May

    Lancs v Kent 228-8

    Phoebe Graham
Manchester Originals bowler on BBC Radio Lancashire

Brilliantly bowled there from Nathan Lyon, clipping the top off-stump.

He just gave that delivery a little bit more flight and it turned in who beat Agar who went on to the backfoot and it just looked like it did him on the inside of his bat.

That's the breakthrough that Lancashire were looking for and they will be wanting to take the next couple of wickets before lunch if possible.

  5. Lunch at Tauntonpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 4 May

    Somerset 128 v Essex 156 & 95-4

Jordan Cox and Matt Critchley safely play out Lewis Gregory's sixth over which costs a Cox single and that's lunch.

The match has continued to rattle along apace as the Taunton pitch gives assistance to the bowlers.

Somerset have kept themselves in it, removing Dean Elgar, Tom Westley, Nick Browne and nightwatchman Sam Cook.

Josh Davey was the pick with two wickets and he could have had more.

Cox (15*) came through a big lbw shout from Jake Ball and has helped steer the Essex lead to 123 at lunch with Critchley (16*).

This game remains right in the balance and could yet finish in two days.

  6. wicket

WICKET Agar b Lyon 13published at 12:58 British Summer Time 4 May

    Lancs v Kent 228-8

    Well that didn't take long.

Wes Agar is deceived by Nathan Lyon's seventh ball of the morning and is clean bowled.

He looks to play back to a ball which pitches back of a length, it takes a little turn and hits the top of Agar's off-stump.

A third wicket for the Australian.

  7. Postpublished at 12:57 British Summer Time 4 May

    Lancs v Kent 228-7

Kent will face spin at both ends as Luke Wells comes on to bowl in tandem with Nathan Lyon.

A single apiece for Wes Agar and Joey Evison who tries an expansive drive with his final ball, but skews it harmlessly to square leg fielder. No run.

  8. Lyon introducedpublished at 12:54 British Summer Time 4 May

    Lancs v Kent 226-7

Nathan Lyon comes into the Lancashire attack.

His Australian compatriot Wes Agar steers the third ball away for his second boundary of the morning.

The spinner sends down a quicker ball but it goes down legside and beats everyone to concede four byes.

    Nine from the over.

  9. 'A nearly day for Derbyshire'published at 12:51 British Summer Time 4 May

    Derbyshire 246 all out v Sussex 34-1

    Dave Fletcher
    BBC Radio Derby Sport

Luis Reece described it as a nearly day yesterday for Derbyshire which sort of fitted it quite perfectly.

Just when it looked like somebody was going to get going they tended to get out which is why they've only managed to get 246 altogether.

  10. Postpublished at 12:49 British Summer Time 4 May

    Lancs v Kent 217-7

No big problems thus far for Kent batters Joey Evison (58) and Wes Agar (8) as Will Williams and George Balderson steam in.

It's an awkward 40-minute session to negotiate for the visitors.

They'd be delighted to get in unscathed and then set themselves again.

  11. 'Kent batting line-up alternation paid off'published at 12:45 British Summer Time 4 May

    Lancs v Kent 213-7

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

That alternation in the Kent batting line-up by bringing Grant Stewart in at eight rather than Matt Parkinson who drops down to 11 - that decision paid dividends yesterday.

Strengthening that lower order just helped stopped potentially something unravelling quite quickly for Kent. It could have got a little bit messy.

  12. Postpublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 4 May

    Somerset 128 v Essex 156 & 83-4

BIG appeal from Jake Ball but Jordan Cox remains at the crease.

Ball is furious and the slips all have their hands on heads as Cox misses a ball which has a hint of movement and thuds into his front pad.

It looked pretty plumb, but nothing doing.

Ball then gets one to jag in between Matt Critchley's pad and off-stump. Close!

  13. 'We're tantalisingly poised'published at 12:38 British Summer Time 4 May

    Somerset 128 v Essex 156 & 81-4

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

Somerset got five wickets yesterday morning so that will be the minimum target here.

One of the ones that they got is the nightwatchman.

Now this partnership here between Jordan Cox and Matthew Critchley - if they can break it then they'll know that they are through to the less experienced batsmen in Noah Thain and Harry Duke.

Somerset will sense that the biggest danger comes from Cox and Critchley and if they can separate them and get them both out - you feel that they know the importance of these two out there at the moment.

So we're sort of back where we were yesterday if Somerset can get this next wicket quickly.

The Nick Browne wicket came at a good time for them.

    We're tantalisingly poised.

  14. Essex lead passes 100published at 12:38 British Summer Time 4 May

    Somerset 128 v Essex 156 & 81-4

Jake Ball into the attack and good fielding in the deep keeps Matt Critchley down to two.

It takes the Essex lead into three figures.

Ball then overpitches with the final two balls of his first over of the second innings and Critchley takes full value with back-to-back boundaries.

  15. Postpublished at 12:36 British Summer Time 4 May

    Lancs v Kent 211-7

George Balderson was superb on day one with three wickets and opens proceedings this morning at Old Trafford.

Wes Agar dispatches his second ball for four, but the Lancashire is on the money for the rest of the over. Four dots.

Joey Evison will face his first ball of the day from Will Williams. He also opens his day two account with a four.

  16. Play to start at Old Traffordpublished at 12:29 British Summer Time 4 May

    Lancashire v Kent 204-7

After losing an hour-and-half to rain, play will start at 12:30pm on day two.

Lunch will be slightly delayed until 1.10pm.

  17. Division Two - spin does the trickpublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 4 May

Glamorgan have lost their first wicket of the morning as spinner Dan Moriarty makes the breakthrough for Yorkshire, removing Chris Cooke for 24.

The visitors are 171-5 with Colin Ingram unbeaten on 45.

  18. 'Middlesex's morning but Foxes fight back well'published at 12:22 British Summer Time 4 May

    Middlesex v Leicestershire 77-3

    Guy Swindells
    BBC Radio London

This has very much been Middlesex's morning.

Certainly Leicestershire in this pair of Louis Kimber and Peter Handscomb are fighting back well.

They came together when it was 50-3 and now it's 77-3.

  19. wicket

WICKET Browne c Lammonby b Gregory 23published at 12:20 British Summer Time 4 May

    Somerset 128 v Essex 156 & 67-4

    Another breakthrough for Somerset.

Nick Browne didn't look at all comfortable out there and his 31-ball stay is done.

He cuts Lewis Gregory through two leg-side fielders for a boundary, but to the next ball Gregory has his man.

He finds the shoulder of Browne's bat and it loops up to Tom Lammonby at third slip who runs around to take a simple catch.

Matt Critchley is in. The Essex lead is 95.

  20. 'It's been Derbyshire's morning'published at 12:18 British Summer Time 4 May

    Derbyshire 245-9 v Sussex

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

It's been Derbyshire's morning, no question about that.

They didn't envisage being in this position.

It's been a wonderful innings by Jack Morley.
