  1. Division Two - Derbyshire all outpublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 4 May

It's been a good morning from Derbyshire as they are finally bowled out for 246 against Sussex after the visitors opted to field first.

They probably deserved a batting point, but won't get one. Three bowling points for Sussex, with James Coles taking two wickets this morning.

Colin Ingram is heading towards another half-century as Glamorgan progress nicely and without damage to 162-4 at Headingley.

And Peter Handscomb and Louis Kimber are leading the Leicestershire recovery at Lord's. The Foxes are 75-3.

Excellent lower order resistance from Derbyshire this morning, Blair Tickner and Jack Morley adding 68 for the ninth wicket with Tickner eventually out for an unorthodox but highly effective career best 47. Jack Morley had made the most of being dropped at slip by Tom Clark off the bowling of Ollie Robinson when on six, as the tail continues to frustrate Sussex.

  3. Postpublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 4 May

    Somerset 128 v Essex 156 & 56-3

Wow, the bowlers are still getting some big movement off the Taunton pitch with the ball which remains only 16 overs old.

Lewis Gregory's latest hoops in so much it almost cuts Jordan Cox in half and needs a good diving catch down leg side from wicketkeeper James Rew to prevent four byes.

Cox did well to get nothing on that one.

Just the no-ball extras from that over.

  4. 'The pitch is still lively'published at 12:05 British Summer Time 4 May

    Somerset 128 v Essex 156 & 43-3

    Annie Chave
    BBC Somerset

We were thinking yesterday are we going to see Dean Elgar bat all day but it looks like the pitch is still lively.

  5. 50 runs

50 up for Essexpublished at 12:05 British Summer Time 4 May

    Somerset 128 v Essex 156 & 52-3

Jordan Cox laces a square cut off Lewis Gregory which scorches along the ground to the rope for back-to-back boundaries.

No-one even moved for that one. Save your energy, chaps.

It brings up the Essex fifty and the lead is 80

  6. 'Davey thoroughly deserved that wicket'published at 12:01 British Summer Time 4 May

Josh Davey didn't appeal that, not sure why because it was pretty plumb.

Anyway that is the important wicket of Tom Westley.

Well bowled Josh Davey, he's thoroughly deserved that wicket. He's bowled beautifully this morning.

That's the second wicket he's picked up.

  7. All changepublished at 12:01 British Summer Time 4 May

    Somerset 128 v Essex 156 & 44-3

Bowling change at Taunton as Migael Pretorius replaces Craig Overton and his first over goes for a pair of twos, a single and a leg bye.

The wily Lewis Gregory then comes on for the brilliant Josh Davey.

  8. Division Two - Tickner's fun endspublished at 11:59 British Summer Time 4 May

    Ah, Blair Tickner.

The Kiwi bowler falls three run shy of his maiden first-class fifty as he's cleaned up by Sussex's James Coles.

Valuable runs though in the context of this match, with Derbyshire 234-9.

Elsewhere, Leicestershire have lost captain Lewis Hill to Middlesex bowler Ryan Higgins as the visitors reach 62-3 after an hour of play.

And Glamorgan continue to move along steadily at Headingley as Colin Ingream (29) and Chris Cooke (19) remain unbeaten. The Welsh side are 146-4.

  9. 'No wickets to fall yet'published at 11:54 British Summer Time 4 May

    Yorkshire v Glamorgan 136-4

    Jonathan Doidge
    BBC Radio Leeds cricket commentator

No wickets have fallen so far today but Glamorgan supporters were alarmed when Colin Ingram got an edge on one that was dropped by Adam Lyth at second slip.

I say dropped but he parried it really, it was travelling up to his left.

  10. wicket

WICKET Westley lbw b Davey 11published at 11:51 British Summer Time 4 May

    Somerset 128 v Essex 156 & 37-3

Somerset are right back in this.

Finally some justice for Josh Davey as he gets the second wicket he richly deserved this morning.

It was full in length and nipped back in to Tom Westley who didn;t take much of a step forward. It thuds into his front pad and the finger goes up.

It looked to be hitting middle and leg.

Essex are three down, Jordan Cox is in and the lead is 65.

  11. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 4 May

    Somerset 128 v Essex 156 & 36-2

Harsh to call it a sharp catch but it will go down as one.

Matt Renshaw is close in at short leg as Jsh Davey finds Nick Browne's outside edge.

It fizzes through to him in the blink of an eye and unfortunately didn;'t stick in Renshaw's paw.

Davey then squeezes one a whisker past Browne's edge and his off-stump with an absolute jaffa.

Craig Overton then almost snares Tom Westley as the ball continues to nip around, but just fails to take the edge.

    It's tough going out there.

  12. Division Two - Good start for batterspublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 4 May

    Ethan BamberImage source, Rex Features

Derbyshire number nine Blair Tickner continues to enjoy himself at Derby and has moved to 40 off just 43 balls.

Derbyshire have taken their score to 220-8 against Sussex.

And Glamorgan batters have seen out the opening half-an-hour without damage at Headingley as Colin Ingram and Chris Cooke have added 24 runs. They're 128-4.

And Leicestershire are two down for 48 at Lord's as Ethan Bamber (2-15) has removed both openers Marcus Harris and Rishi Patel.

  13. 'What a start from Bamber'published at 11:34 British Summer Time 4 May

    Middlesex v Leicestershire 36-1

    Guy Swindells
    BBC Radio London

What a start this morning from Ethan Bamber.

He has bowled absolutely beautifully this morning.

He pitched that up, Marcus Harris tried to flick it away to leg and missed it.

Trying to flick it to leg is bold this early in the innings.

Suddenly the decision by Middlesex to bowl and field is looking better and better.

  14. Postpublished at 11:34 British Summer Time 4 May

    Somerset 128 v Essex 156 & 25-2

Another shout and more anguish for Josh Davey.

He finds the pads once again, this time of Essex captain Tom Westley.

It looked straight and worth a shout, but the finger stayed down.

  15. Pitch inspectionpublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 4 May

    Lancashire v Kent 203-7

The umpires have said there will be a further inspection at 12:00 after heavy overnight rain at Old Trafford.

  16. Five byespublished at 11:29 British Summer Time 4 May

    Somerset 128 v Essex 156 & 21-2

You don't see this too often.

A Josh Davey ball keeps low and skids past wicketkeeper James Rew before clattering into the helmet resting on the ground behind the wicketkeeper.

That's five byes to the Essex total and their lead moves to 49.

Who knows how valuable that could be in a low-scoring match like this?

  17. 'This will lift Somerset's spirits'published at 11:25 British Summer Time 4 May

    Somerset 128 v Essex 156 & 15-2

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

This will lift Somerset's spirits no end.

It's just the start that they would have been hoping for.

A couple of early wickets, the nightwatchman a potential irritant removed without too much damage.

And from the evidence so far today, the answer to the question as to whether this pitch will to continue to nip around is yes.

  18. 'Just what Somerset wanted'published at 11:22 British Summer Time 4 May

    Somerset 128 v Essex 156 & 15-2

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

That is just what Somerset wanted.

There might have this fear that they might have been a little bit demoralised after what happened after tea yesterday where all the good work early in the day was undone by Cook and Porter.

  19. wicket

WICKET Cook c Umeed b Overton 6published at 11:20 British Summer Time 4 May

    Somerset 128 v Essex 156 & 15-2

    Two wickets down!

Strike bowler Sam Cook has batted in the top three in every Championship game he's played in 2024.

But his stay is a short one.

He takes a two off Craig Overton, but next ball the Simerset paceman sends one down which mives away and takes a thick outside edge.

It flew to fourth slip where Sean Dickson got down like a flash, flicked it up with his left hand to Andy Umeed at third slip. Sharp!

Nick Browne, who plundered 184 against Durham last week, is in.

  20. wicket

WICKET Elgar c Rew b Davey 5published at 11:15 British Summer Time 4 May

    Somerset 128 v Essex 156 & 11-1

    Big wicket!

It's an innocuous delivery from Josh Davey, short and pitching just outside leg.

Dean Elgar looks to glance it away but gets a thin edge and wicketkeeper James Rew takes a routine catch.

The South African trudges off with just 10 runs in the match.

Essex skip Tom Westley then survives a scare first ball.
