Summary

  1. Eng 68-2published at 15 overs

Nashra Sandhu continues, giving the ball a lot of flight.

The England batters take a couple of singles to take us up to the drinks break.

Will we see some acceleration when play resumes?

  2. Eng 66-2published at 14 overs

Nat Sciver-Brunt comes to crease and cracks on almost immediately, smacking Umm-e-Hani away for four through point.

  3. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 13.1 overs

    Beaumont lbw b Umm-e-Hani 33 (Eng 61-2)

    She is gone!

Ball tracking has the ball going straight onto the stumps up half-way up.

General scepticism in the TMS booth about whether it would have been that straight - clipping is their verdict.

Either way, the England opener is on her way.

  4. Umpire reviewpublished at 13.1 overs

    Is Tammy Beaumont gone?

Umm-e-Hani raps her pads on the sweep and Sue Redfearn's finger is raised.

Beaumont sends it upstairs, she seems sceptical.

  5. Eng 61-1published at 13 overs

    Rather sedate, this.

England take two more runs off Nashra Sandhu - they've scored 15 runs in five overs since the spinners were introduced.

  6. Eng 59-1published at 12 overs

Umm-e-Hani bowls another tidy over, with England sending another three singles into the leg-side field.

I would like to see a lot more sweeping right now from England. The pace is very slow. Umm-e-Hani is offering it outside the off stump. When you are bowling outside off stump, it is a free sweep.

Albeit it will be straight, but there is a huge gap between long and mid-wicket. The traditional sweep is also on, every time.

  8. Eng 56-1published at 11 overs

England's batters work Nashra Sandhu for four singles.

I should note that Heather Knight shed the towel she was wearing over cricket gear before she came out to bat.

Shame really - a caped batter would look rather dramatic.

Spin at both ends now for Pakistan as Umm-e-Hani tries to redeem herself with ball in hand.

Beaumont sweeps her for four to bring up England's fifty.

  10. dropped catch

    Dropped catchpublished at 9 overs

    Eng 47-1

Heather Knight almost goes third ball!

She chips the ball high in the air and Umm-e-Hani scrambles backwards from mid-on to try and take the catch.

After setting herself she realises she's not moved far enough and fails to take the grab on the dive.

A lucky escape for the England skipper.

The experienced golden arm, Nashra Sandhu, has just taken a wicket straight away!

Bouchier is walking off quite quickly, Tammy has told her to go on her merry way. Sandhu is definitely Pakistan's go-to, isn't she?

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 8.3 overs

Bouchier lbw Sandhu 17 (Eng 45-1)

Change of bowler for Pakistan and Nashra Sandhu has a wicket in her first over!

The switch to spin works a treat as Maia Bouchier is trapped right in front. She has a chat with her opening partner, but is evidently informed there's no chance of a successful review.

An important breakthrough for Pakistan after that flurry of boundaries.

The tale of the first few overs has been England's batters having to generate all of the pace onto the ball.

We have seen Tammy [Beaumont] take a little step down the wicket, but this time she takes more of a trot to generate the pace and get the length that she wants. That has allowed her to put it away more convincingly.

  14. Eng 44-0published at 8 overs

Maia Bouchier gets in on the action, greeting a half-volley from Baig with a minimal effort chip that still flies for a one-bounce four at the long-off boundary.

She then smacks one back down the ground, the ball scudding past her opening partner's head on the way to the ropes.

The Pakistan seamers don't have that expressed pace, their balls are probably only 60-65mph. But the pitch looks slow and the lights are on, you would think would bring a bit more pace and zip out there.

  16. Eng 34-0published at 7 overs

    Tammy, were you listening?

Three fours for the England opener in this over from Fatima Sana, first lofting a shot over the head of Nida Dar at mid-on before driving past mid-off.

She finishes off with a club into mid-wicket, the ball beating the rather half-hearted fielding attempt of Dar to make it to the ropes.

The big thing for Maia [Bouchier] is that we always say that she gets really pretty starts. What she needs now, for her career, is to go on consistently.

I know that it is very easy to say that you need to get in and score big runs, but when she gets in, she looks great and then tends to get herself out.

  18. Eng 21-0published at 6 overs

Bouchier sweeps Baig for a couple, and then drives straight back to the bowler, leading her opening partner to scramble back to her crease.

Just the one boundary in the innings thus far.

  19. Eng 17-0published at 5 overs

A neat over from Fatima Sana, just the two singles as England's batters find the fielders.

  20. Eng 15-0published at 4 overs

Maia Bouchier picks up three, clipping Diana Baig deep into the mid-wicket outfield.

Two fielders converge on the ball and they just about beat it to the boundary - it slowed up quite a bit there.

Meanwhile we've had sight of Heather Knight sat on the changing room balcony, wrapped in a towel over her hoody.

Not a warm day in the East Midlands.
