Summary

  1. Eng 11-0published at 3 overs

First boundary for England as Beaumont plays a lovely check drive through the covers.

She just leant on the delivery from Fatima Sana, it looked so easy but the ball raced to the boundary.

Tammy is definitely one of the best batters England has ever had. You would put her alongside Charlotte Edwards. Nat [Sciver-Brunt] is on the same lines but she has a long way to go.

Her spot in this ODI team for me is a dead cert. She is someone you have to nurture and look after. If you get her in the right frame of mind, you will get 400 or 500 runs per tournament.

  3. Eng 6-0published at 2 overs

Diana Baig takes the ball at the other end for Pakistan, and Beaumont works her delivery into the leg side for a two.

The England opener follows up with a classy drive that clouts Aliya Riaz on the knee, with the home batters running a single, before Bouchier gets off the mark with a single to backward point.

The fact that the game has started on time has taken most of us here by surprise, given the downpours that were unleashed around the country yesterday.

The outfield is looking good, the pitch may prove to be quite slow but generally, the Derbyshire groundstaff have done a cracking job.

A little surprise in Pakistan's decision to bowl first, given they did the same in all three T20s and didn't even come close to winning one. It's cloudy, quite chilly - the visitors won't like these conditions but maybe it's their best chance to make the most of them.

  5. Eng 2-0published at 1 over

Beaumont is hurried a little by a Sana delivery onto her legs, but she's able to work it away into mid-wicket to get herself and England off the mark.

Maia Bouchier comes on strike and watches Sana's final ball go wide of the tram lines for a further run.

  6. Eng 0-0published at 0.1 overs

The ball sits up for Beaumont and she cuts Sana's first delivery to point.

Tammy Beaumont is taking the first ball for England, while Fatima Sana will open up for Pakistan.

    We're about to get going...

The Pakistan team are huddled on the boundary - there's a stiff breeze whipping at the corridor of flags the teams will pass through as they come onto the pitch.

A few hands hidden up sleeves - forget the warm weather of the weekend and previous week!

  9. 'We just need to take on our strengths'published at 12:56 British Summer Time 23 May 2024

Pakistan captain Nida Dar on improving on their T20 series performance: "We have changed two or three people in the ODI series. We will be taking a lot of positives from the T20s and we will take that momentum from that last match.

"So I think we just need to take on our strengths and hopefully we will go well."

  10. 'Beaumont is one of the best ODI batters'published at 12:52 British Summer Time 23 May 2024

England captain Heather Knight on having Tammy Beaumont back in the ODI squad: "It is really great to have Tammy's experience back. She is one of the best ODI batters we have ever produced for England. It's good to have her experience, her energy and everything she brings.

"Obviously Kate Cross is coming back in as well, with her experience with the ball."

  11. 'We are going to have to bat well'published at 12:46 British Summer Time 23 May 2024

England captain Heather Knight: "I was going to ball first actually, but I don't mind that too much. I think it will be a decent surface, it actually looks pretty hard and pretty good. We are going to have to bat well.

"With Nat [Sciver-Brunt] not bowling today, we are playing with our five best bowlers. It's pretty hard to leave one of the spinners out, the way they have been performing.

"So we are going to play three spinners and two seamers in Lauren Bell and Kate Cross."

As I mentioned a few minutes ago, these two sides have already contested a T20 series, with England wrapping up a 3-0 victory on Sunday.

Danni Wyatt returned to form with a sparkling 87, with the visitors never really in the contest.

Today is the first of three ODIs. Heather Knight's side are in decent knick in the format, winning series against Sri Lanka and Australia last year and beating New Zealand 2-1 last month.

The England captain wants her side to be ruthless in this series - that's an enticing prospect.

Her side chased in all three T20s that preceded this series, and they'll do so again today.

The weather forecast for Derby, showing a low chance of rain in mid-afternoon

So what chance of a game, then?

The forecast actually isn't too bad, with moderate chance of rain dropping to a complete absence by early evening.

The greater concern might have been how well the outfield at Derby has drained after the downpours of the last 24 hours, but the players have been doing their regular warm-up routines and it looks like the captains are wandering out to the middle - looks like we have a match!

All eyes on the Derby skies.

The UK was thoroughly soaked yesterday, with cricket matches and election launches affected by torrents of rain.

The forecast is a little better today, and in the East Midlands there's two sides hankering to get out on the field.

It's England v Pakistan in the first ODI, let's keep our fingers crossed.
