Summary

  1. Pak 40-1published at 8 overs

Muneeba Ali is the new Pakistan batter, and she watches two Lauren Bell wides come down before facing a legitimate delivery.

She takes a single down to third from the final ball of the over.

The lack of inswing has got Sidra Ameen there because I think that has actually gone away from the bat.

Ameen got drawn into the shot, she was sitting on her back-foot, she offered it up a bit with not much foot movement, she has gone to work it slightly to the leg-side and it has just gone on the outside edge.

    Good bowling!

    Ameen c Jones b Bell 2 (Pak 37-1)

Sidra Ameen finally gets to face... but she's gone after three balls of Lauren Bell's over.

The England seamer lures Ameen into a shot, the ball just shaping away a little as the Pakistan opener tried to tuck it away into the leg side.

It's enough to take the edge and Amy Jones isn't dropping that one.

  4. Pak 37-0published at 7 overs

Sadaf Shamas has been retaining the strike for these last few overs, but Sidra Ameen won't mind if her batting partner continues to bat like this.

The 25-year-old takes 10 more runs from Cross's six balls, driving a four through the covers, clipping two over the grasping Tammy Beaumont at square leg, before upper cutting for another boundary.

  5. Pak 26-0published at 6 overs

Ooof, lucky for Sadaf Shamas, top-edging a short ball from Bell over Amy Jones for Pakistan's first four off the bat.

Bell follows up with another wide - she's yet to bowl an wide-less over in this match - before Sadaf takes the single from the final ball of the over to retain the strike again.

Kate Cross and Lauren Bell complement each other really well, don't they? Cross has been magnificent since coming back into the side and having a real run.

I think Pakistan just need to settle in here and not do too much differently. I don't necessarily think they need to go walking down the pitch at all.

  7. Pak 21-0published at 5 overs

Just a single from Kate Cross's third over, as Sadaf Shamas cuts her final ball down to Sarah Glenn at third.

The England seamer is shaping the ball away nicely, almost drawing the edge again earlier in the over.

That was strange! You don't see Amy Jones dropping ones like that. I think she was halfway between a dive and just a little movement to the side - maybe that's what it was.

For Amy Jones, that is so uncharacteristic. We have spoken about how amazing her glovework has been across this series, haven't we? A disappointing one for her.

  9. dropped catch

    Dropped catchpublished at 4 overs

    Pak 20-0

This time it's England putting down the catch!

Lauren Bell finds Sidra Ameen's outside edge and Jones spills the chance diving to her right. You'd normally expect her to take those.

Ameen gets a life on two.

  10. Pak 20-0published at 3.5 overs

Sadaf Shamas fires Lauren Bell's first delivery through the covers - it looks destined to be four, but Maia Bouchier does really well to flick the ball back from the boundary sponge.

There can't have been more than a millimetre between the back of her hand and the ropes.

Bell sends a bouncer down that flies high over the head of Sidra Ameen, but follows up with a ball on the stumps that the Pakistan opener has to block out.

If I was out there batting, I would take the scoreboard completely out of it. I don't think there is any pressure really from the scoreboard, they need four and a half or up to five.

All they need to do is bat. It is a good pitch and the ball seems to be coming up quite nicely to the bat. I think there are plenty of runs on offer out there.

  12. Pak 16-0published at 3 overs

This time the leg byes do go for four, Kate Cross's delivery shaving Sidra Ameen's thigh pad on the way to the boundary.

Cross follows up with a lovely outswinger that almost takes the outside edge of the Pakistan batter.

  13. Eng 9-0published at 2 overs

As can occasionally be the case, Lauren Bell struggles initially with her line. She sends down two leg-side wides, gathered by Amy Jones behind the stumps.

Sadaf Shamas works her for a couple of twos into the covers, the latter narrowly finding a gap past a scrambling Maia Bouchier.

  14. 'England are missing a trick with Dean'published at 16:54 British Summer Time 23 May 2024

Raf Nicholson from CRICKETher, speaking at the innings break on England's impressive bowling options: "It's a really tricky one. For me, if we are thinking about the balance of the side actually, I would like to see Charlie Dean given more responsibility with the bat.

"She was batting at seven today because of Danni Wyatt not being in the side. But I think that if you focus more on her becoming a more rounded player, then you solve your headache to a certain extent.

"I really feel as though England are missing a trick there by not seeing her as a batter. She can handle a lot more responsibility and England have a habit of pigeonholing players to either being a batter or a bowler."

  15. Pak 3-0published at 1 over

Sadaf Shamas gets off the mark with a single into the covers, before Cross's final ball clips off Sidra Ameen to run away for two leg byes.

Should have been three really, Lauren Bell only just about cut it off on the ropes.

  16. Pak 0-0published at 0.1 overs

    Target 244

Kate Cross opens England's bowling, the host of the No Balls podcast is playing in her 63rd ODI.

Two slips in, Sadaf Shamas pushes the first delivery to mid-wicket.

England are running back onto the field to the sound of Sophie Ellis-Bextor's 'Murder on the Dancefloor'.

Didn't enjoy Saltburn especially, but can't argue with its revival of this classic.

  18. 'They look a bit scrambled'published at 16:45 British Summer Time 23 May 2024

    Ffion Wynne
    BBC Sport cricket writer

On England's current ODI form, BBC Sport's Ffion Wynne added: "I think sometimes you think they look a bit scrambled with this mindset. It is a lot more straightforward in T20 cricket to sort of go for it gung-ho, as we have seen them do.

"The likes of Maia Bouchier and Alice Capsey are so young, and actually still so inexperienced.

"Heather Knight spoke about it in her press conference yesterday that you do have the capability to go big in 50-over cricket, but you do also have to absorb pressure and reassess conditions at times.

"Today, there has been moments where they were a little bit stick or twist - they weren't quite sure when to pick that moment."

  20. ODI side 'not as settled' as the T20 sidepublished at 16:38 British Summer Time 23 May 2024

Nick Friend from The Cricketer on the players struggling to find the boundaries and build-up their run tallies in ODIs: "This innings has highlighted the importance of Danni Wyatt through that middle order in the ODIs. She takes it on a slightly different way.

"If we had Danni for any length of time in the back-end of that innings, we wouldn't have seen four boundaries in 15 overs.

"It is odd, isn't it? It is certainly not as much of a settled side as the T20 side."
