  3. 'Sometimes Jon-ball isn't the best way to play'published at 16:31 British Summer Time 23 May 2024

Raf Nicholson from CRICKETher, discussing England's recent pattern of getting good starts but no big scores on TMS: "I think 'Jon-ball', or the philosophy of coach Jon Lewis, is an interesting philosophy. I think the younger players are struggling to get that balance.

"They are very much being told to be aggressive, exciting, inspire and entertain. It's that kind of mantra, but actually sometimes that isn't the best way to play."

While we wait for the teams to re-emerge, let's take a walk back through the England innings.

They fell pretty steadily through the innings, although Amy Jones and Alice Capsey stayed together at the crease for almost 13 overs, putting on 67 runs.

    Thanks Matt.

At the fourth time of asking on this tour, can Pakistan chase down an England total?

It's theoretically a gettable total, but the visitors haven't got close yet.

Anyway. It's time for Mike Peter to take back over from me.

    In a bit...

Phil Long has just pointed out that England scored only four boundaries in the last 15 overs.

That's not good, although this was a great shot from Kate Cross.

England should have looked to get 280+ but those little batting collapses caused them to pause and they weren't able to get that momentum later in the innings. It wasn't a poor batting performance from England but it certainly wasn't their best.

That was not quite the dominant performance England would have been looking for. They just don't seem to be able to string it all together at the moment.

Eight batters made double figures but no-one got to 50.

    Big swing and a miss.

Pakistan look the happier at halfway.

I don't think you need ultra-edge there. That's so bad!

    On we go.

What can England manage from the last?

  14. Pakistan reviewpublished at 49.5 overs

We're heading upstairs for a review.

I think Pakistan reckon Lauren Bell has nicked this...

Bad drop that from Fatima Sana. Just completed a great bit of fielding but then drops what should have been a simple catch.

  16. dropped catch

Bell dropped on 1published at 49.3 overs

A sitter at long-off for Fatima Sana goes down.

England didn't manage a single either.

  17. Eng 240-9published at 49.2 overs

Good fielding prevents Sarah Glenn grabbing a boundary.

    England still run three.

Nashra Sandhu begins the final over with her cap on...

Sarah Glenn gets on one knee to play a swipe that has to be chased by the keeper towards the boundary.

    Ugly all round.

  19. Eng 236-9published at 49 overs

Lauren Bell, not known for her batting, survives her first ball.

    Even 250 looks unlikely now.

Cross was backing herself to play the same shot again, but this time just drags it ever so slightly to the left. Long-on is there to take a simple catch.
