West Indies new Test skipper Roston Chase zips through another over of his part-time off-spin and, to his credit, concedes only a couple of singles.

A good delivery from Alzarri Joseph. That is tough luck for him, it was just too wide for the keeper and he looks disgruntled.

West Indies don't want these two still at the crease at the start of the 40th over.

    Buttler 12, Bethell 5

Jacob Bethell gets himself off the mark by flicking a four down to fine leg off his hip. It was a pretty shoddy ball in fairness.

Alzarri Joseph, one from the grumpy cohort of fast bowlers at the best of times, then buries his head into his hand as Jos Buttler gets an inside edge for four more to end the over.

    Runs continue to flow.

English fans are so negative. We don't deserve any joy with fans like this.

Classic England fans. Negativity and pessimism despite good batting and three great Windies catches.

If England don’t post 350+ then only themselves to blame, because we got off to an excellent start, but losing wickets consistently doesn’t help!

Does Brook's wicket signal the inevitable middle order collapse??!!

    Buzzers!

Alzarri Joseph lets the ball through his hands after a throw at the stumps by Shai Hope. It runs all of the way for four.

Classic England. Ruining a good start. 310 for 9 this will end.

Jacob Bethell, about whom so much has been said in the past few weeks, is England's number six.

We haven't seen him in an England shirt since February.

Brook hit that hard and flat. The fielder had to come in a few yards and Brook is sadly walking.

It was crunched off the middle of the bat and it was a good catch. The third by West Indies today.

    The commentator's curse strikes again!

Harry Brook chases a short, wide ball from Jayden Seales but slaps it straight to deep extra cover.

A fourth England player gets out after a good start.

England will want to expand this total from here, having got such a good grounding. Jamie Smith did not go as deep as England would have wanted but he got the team going.

Now Brook will start to explode.

Harry Brook grasps his bat tightly and waves it towards the crowd to celebrate his fifty. He's got there in 41 deliveries.

It's a lovely, nerve-settling start to his official reign as skipper.

You can definitely see a shift in this over. I am surprised that Hope has not brought Alzarri Joseph back into the attack, it feels like a missed opportunity.

What a shot! He got outside the leg stump and hit it hard to the off-side. It felt absolutely planned from Harry Brook.

Root hits half-century as England build momentum with the bat

That was only the fourth false shot Joe Root played in the 65 balls that he faced today. A tad unlucky. The last time he had such a low false shot % in a 50+ knock in a home ODI was back in 2021 at The Oval against Sri Lanka (he scored an unbeaten 68 off 87 balls in a winning run chase).
