Again England have asked for the ball to be changed. And it's finally gone their way.

Ben Stokes thanks Ollie Pope who made the call.

  2. Ind 184-3published at 55.1 overs

Was there more of a cheer for that shot, Matt? Rishabh Pant dances down, swings wildly, and gets... one.

The big news, however, is that Ben Stokes has finally, finally succeeded in getting the umpire to change the ball. Handshakes all round. The ball gauge is pocketed and the briefcase of replacement balls is brought out for perusal.

Some of the crowd seem to be booing every time Rishabh Pant doesn't play a wild shot.

  4. Ind 183-3published at 55 overs

Shoaib Bashir bowls his 10th over.

Two defensive shots and a single from Rishabh Pant. Three dots for Shubman Gill.

I think a 100% fit Jofra Archer has to be first choice vs this current attack. He has that X-factor and seeing his name on a team sheet must surely give pause to opposing teams.

  6. Ind 182-3published at 54 overs

Chris Woakes starts the evening session with a maiden, with Shubman Gill largely opting for defence.

One delivery brings an intake of breath from Woakes after beating Gill's bat.

To celebrate my 21st wedding anniversary I went to the allotment with my wife Zoe. Obviously had TMS on; it got a bit nippy so had to dig out my circa 1992 old England cricket jumper. Like England today still going strong.

    Chris from Leeds

Congratulations on your wedding anniversary Chris and Zoe!

I'd like an allotment or space in the garden to grow veg. Last summer, my mum had a tomato plant but while lots of green tomatoes sprouted, none of them turned red. I think we probably saw more figs than ripe tomatoes...

I think it's good that India have tried to build a platform here.

India can look to be a bit more positive in the final session with their two experienced batters at the crease.

Ben Stokes aside, I just don’t see any of these bowlers being the one to step up and break partnerships once they bed in.

It's been a relatively quiet start by Rishabh Pant, who has 14 off 28.

However, he did wallop Shoaib Bashir over mid-on for six. Will we see more of that after tea?

Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, and Ben Stokes have been in the wickets for England.

However, there have been plenty of messages coming in criticising the quality of England's bowling attack.

Who would you pick in the attack, assuming everyone is fit and firing? Any county curveballs? Do get in touch to let us know.

    Thanks Tim.

Talk in the office has turned to what makes your eyes light up when you spy a cricket tea. I'm going to be hungry for the next couple of hours now.

    Anyway, Edgbaston...

India are in a good position. They've made a lot of changes and moved the batting order around.

The game feels very much in the balance but the difficult thing for the bowlers is there's not much in it for them, so they're going to have to keep working at it.

  18. India 182-3 at teapublished at 53 overs

Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill safely negotiate the remaining deliveries of Shoaib Bashir's over to reach the tea interval with their wickets in tact.

That feels like India's session, but England will be pleased to see the back of Yashasvi Jaiswal who looked set for a big one.

It’s about time they used Root because he breaks into an innings and gets wickets.

Shoaib Bashir with what looks to be the final over before tea. Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill continue to rotate the strike.
