    Surrey 32-0 - target 418

There's a lot of cloud overhead at The Oval, including one or two dark ones.

Assuming it doesn't rain, this is going to be one heck of a chase if Surrey manage to pull it off - and serve as a warning to any other side audacious enough to think of denying them a fourth successive title.

Rory Burns is 17 not out, Dom Sibley has 11 and Jamie Porter will bowl the day's opening over for Essex.

Two terrific knocks from Warwickshire's Sam Hain have helped put the visitors in charge

An exciting run chase is in store on day four at New Road as Worcestershire attempt to chase down a rather imposing target of 327, set largely thanks to two classy innings from Warwickshire's Sam Hain (86 and 87 not out).

The hosts ended the third day on 54-2 after play was remarkably resumed at 19:10 BST following a 40 minute stoppage for bad light.

With Warwickshire's two Chris's - Woakes and Rushworth - finding a consistent line and length on a capricious pitch, the Bears go into the final day of this local derby as overwhelming favourites but, so far, wicketkeeper batsman Gareth Roderick and Kashif Ali have shown the steeliness and determination at the crease for this match to be far from just a formality.

An intriguing final day beckons with an additional factor of some rain in the forecast over Worcester today as well.

  4. Coad says Yorkshire will 'give everything' despite tired bodiespublished at 10:50 British Summer Time 26 May

Ben Coad admitted there were tired bodies in the Yorkshire dressing room ahead of day four after a gruelling run of seven early season County Championship rounds.

But the seamer insisted he and his teammates will “give everything” they have left as they try to salvage points against table toppers Nottinghamshire at Headingley.

Yorkshire need 287 runs to win with only five wickets still standing – a situation Coad admits leaves them in a tight spot.

“We fought hard with the ball with some tired bodies,” he said. “It’s been a heavy schedule these last seven games. We put our all in there and fought hard with the bat as well.

“It was a bit frustrating to lose a few more wickets than we’d have wanted at the end, and it wasn’t where we wanted to end up.

“We’ll give it everything tomorrow. We’re obviously behind the eight-ball, but we’ll keep going and see what we can do.”

Notts assistant coach Paul Franks paid tribute to Dillon Pennington, whose breakthrough with the last ball of day three has given them sight of Yorkshire’s tail as they chase a fourth win of their campaign.

“I’m really pleased for Dillon. He’s had to put some work in to get that wicket of [Harry] Duke. He fully deserved it.”

  6. Allison savours 'very special' centurypublished at 10:43 British Summer Time 26 May

    Surrey 279 & 32-0 v Essex 217 & 479

    Charlie AllisonImage source, Rex Features

Essex batter Charlie Allison is hopeful they can push on for victory at The Oval today after his 140 allowed them to set reigning champions Surrey a huge target of 418.

The 20-year-old had never before scored more than 28 in a first-class innings, but hit two sixes and 19 fours in his superb 235-ball innings.

"This is my sixth match at this level and I’d yet to get to 50 so to go on and make a hundred was a real thrill. To do it at such a great ground like the Oval, and in the very first match I’ve ever played here, is also very special," Allison said.

“The pitch was definitely a bit slower than it was earlier in the game but there is still something in it for the bowlers and I’d like to think we have enough runs on the board and that we can go on to win the match."

Derbyshire skipper Wayne Madsen wants more of the same from his bowlers as they look to wrap up a second win of the season on the final day against Kent.

They were able to enforce the follow-on during day three despite Ben Compton's 156 and then picked up three wickets in the visitors' second innings before the close.

"We brought our energy and consistency with the ball and I thought the guys were fantastic. Nudge [Anuj Dal] in particular in the first innings, the control he brought for us and with that came the wickets," he said.

"The fact that we've got five seamers in our ranks is what makes it a little bit easier. The guys can share the load with Jack (Morley) and Dave (Lloyd) to help out, so we have the bowlers to be able to go back-to-back and we want to make sure we're clinical tomorrow."

  8. 'Tricky chase' no worry for Glos - Greenpublished at 10:36 British Summer Time 26 May

    Northants 469 & 158-4 v Gloucestershire 379-8 dec

    Cameron GreenImage source, Rex Features

Australia all-rounder Cameron Green has backed Gloucestershire to chase any target they are set on the final day at Wantage Road.

Bottom-of-the-table Northamptonshire will resume with a 248-run lead, and the visitors still have to take six wickets, with in-form Saif Zaib and James Sales together overnight.

"We’ll be pushing for wickets early, but we’re confident in terms of a chase, 100%. The wicket isn't deteriorating quite as fast as other wickets can do," said Green, who made 118 not out in the first innings.

"So, yeah, always back yourself to score the runs. I think we had a tricky chase last week against Kent and got it done."

  9. Bank Holiday Monday weather outlookpublished at 10:33 British Summer Time 26 May
