  1. Postpublished at 73.4 overs

    Surrey 248-6 v Essex

Three slips, gully, leg slip, short leg in position as Shane Snater bowls to Jordan Clark.

The Surrey all-rounder is a tough customer, he won't be fazed by this situation.

He pulls the fourth delivery and Kasun Rajitha makes a hash of the stop at backward square - it's four runs.

  2. Play resumes at The Ovalpublished at 73 overs

    Surrey 244-6 v Essex

Here come Surrey's not out batters, Jamie Overton and Jordan Clark.

There are 14 overs left, with seven to the new ball - assuming there is no further rain - for Essex to try and take four wickets.

Surrey were last beaten in the County Championship when they lost by 111 runs to Somerset last September.

  3. rain stops play

Covers coming on at Northantspublished at 17:02 British Summer Time 26 May

    Northants v Gloucs 214-6 (target 350)

Bad news if you're a Northamptonshire fan, the covers are now coming on at Wantage Road after rain halted proceedings around 25 minutes ago following James Bracey's dismissal.

  4. Postpublished at 73 overs

    Surrey 244-6 (target 418) v Essex

The covers are being peeled off at The Oval but they're not exactly rushing. Still a lot of grey stuff over to the left of the pavilion as you look at it (from the outfield).

Looks like we are going to see some more cricket, though, at 17:10 BST. We'll let you know the adjusted number of overs remaining when we do.

They have also had some rain at T20 County Cup Finals Day at Taunton.

The Blaze's innings against Lancashire Thunder was interrupted but they have now finished with 86-8 from 16 overs, with England's Sophie Ecclestone taking 3-19.

Thunder need to chase that down for the right to play Surrey in this evening's final.

  7. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Northantspublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 26 May

    Northants v Gloucs 214-6 (target 350)

And that is the final ball before the umpires call us off once more at Wantage Road for rain - how disappointing!

The hosts will hope that isn't the last we see of this match, they are on a roll.

Unlike at other grounds across the two divisions, this looks like it may just be a passing shower.

We will inform you of any updates as soon as we get them as this Division Two clash reaches a tantalising conclusion.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:39 British Summer Time 26 May

    Bracey c Harrison b Conway 22 (Northants v Gloucs 214-6, target 350)

    Another outstanding catch!

Harry Conway finds the outside of James Bracey's bat and the left-hander has a nibble at it outside his off stump.

His attempt at cutting one down to third man for four flies to Calvin Harrison at first slip who makes a fantastic grab.

Nine times out of ten that would have gone to the boundary.

Northamptonshire have been superb in the field today.

  9. rain stops play

Rain stops play at The Ovalpublished at 73 overs

    Surrey 244-6 (target 418) v Essex

Jamie Overton fetches the ball from outside off stump against Simon Harmer - a very risky shot.

He makes good contact, though, and the fielder at mid-wicket obligingly dives over it and gifts him four runs.

Overton moves to 23 not out - and with that we are off again.

  10. Postpublished at 16:36 British Summer Time 26 May

    Northants v Gloucs 210-5 (target 350)

James Bracey sweeps rather uncomfortably in the air and doesn't get hold of it but luckily for the visitors there is not a leg slip in place and it lands safely for a single.

Any result at this stage is still possible.

140 runs required for Gloucestershire, five wickets needed for Northants.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 71.4 overs

    Curran c Allison b Porter 77 (Surrey 238-6 - target 418 - v Essex)

Big appeal for lbw from Jamie Porter against Jamie Overton but that one looked to be going down leg.

That is out, though, as Sam Curran goes for a flashing drive and fails to keep it down.

Great catch by Charlie Allison at point. What a game he is having.

  12. 200 up for Gloucestershirepublished at 16:29 British Summer Time 26 May

    Northants v Gloucs 200-5 (target 350)

Graeme van Buuren enters the arena at number seven and with his first run of the second innings gets Gloucestershire up to 200.

Still 150 required to reach their target with five wickets in hand and a little bit of rain overhead at the moment for both sides to deal with.

  13. Postpublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 26 May

    Surrey 236-5 (target 418) v Essex

    Roland Butcher
Former England batter on BBC Sounds

I'm not sure that did not carry but it is the umpires that matter and they said it did not carry.

The dark clouds and rain look to be on their way again!

  14. Postpublished at 69.3 overs

    Surrey 236-5 (target 418) v Essex

Sam Curran flicks fine, did keeper Michael Pepper catch that on the full? The umpires confer and say no. Curran survives.

Big moment in this final session.

  15. Postpublished at 16:23 British Summer Time 26 May

    Surrey 236-5 (target 418) v Essex

    Don Topley
    BBC Essex

He has taken some great catches here at the Oval has Harmer, he had a brilliant hundred here from number 8 in the Championship a couple of years ago too.

  16. Postpublished at 69 overs

    Surrey 236-5 (target 418) v Essex

That's what Essex want to see, turn and bounce for Simon Harmer.

No bat involved, though, as it lobs up off Jamie Overton's thigh pad.

Run rate now up to seven an over.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 26 May

    Green c Miller b Harrison 25 (Northants v Gloucs 198-5, target 350)

Fifth wicket goes down for Gloucestershire and Cameron Green looks disgusted with himself.

It's a bit of a drag down in truth from Calvin Harrison and it is there to be hit but Green somehow finds Gus Miller at short cover who takes a good catch.

Green has been fabulous since signing for Gloucestershire with three centuries this season but that will be the last we see him in the County Championship in 2025 - a shame for any neutral.

In the context of this match though, it is a big wicket for the hosts and that may well be the door opening for Division Two's bottom club to claim victory in this one.

  18. It's raining at New Roadpublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 26 May

    Worcs 181-8 v Warwicks (target 327)

It's still raining and the outfield is not getting any better at New Road.

Warwickshire need two wickets to win this local derby but the weather may well prevent them of any bragging rights today.

We'll provide you with any further updates as soon as we get them.

  19. Postpublished at 68 overs

    Surrey 235-5 (target 418) v Essex

Essex call up the ever reliable Jamie Porter - 3-56 at the moment - for another burst. Just a single from it but no major alarms.

What else can Essex try in the hope of breaking this partnership?

  20. Postpublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 26 May

    Surrey 234-5 (target 418) v Essex

    Don Topley
    BBC Essex

Overton is on a guard of off stump against Harmer.

He likes to play in front of square, he gets his left leg out of the way a little bit, allowing him to sweep.
