I do not know the name of trees well enough, but the dark one over there I am using as a backdrop to judge these drops of rain...

It definitely is raining out there now...

Liam Patterson-White, the left-arm spinner, is really looking for those footmarks here.

Just one wicket keeping Notts from top of the table status here.

Mo Abbas is going to come back on chasing his 50th first-class five-fer.

Pure strength from Cameron Bancroft, who hits Northamptonshire's Calvin Harrison down the ground for four and moves on to 59 not out.

    Seven off the over.

Sam Curran strokes Shane Snater elegantly for four and marks his first Championship game of the season with a second 50, this one taking him 73 balls.

Curran has been ready to put away anything loose from the start of his innings, but Surrey need him to prolong this knock in their current predicament.

  5. dropped catch

White dropped on 4published at 14:54 British Summer Time 26 May

    Yorks 159 & 286-9 (target 463) v Notts 228 & 393-8d

Has to go down as a chance even if Freddie McCann was probably more intent on taking evasive action rather than hanging on to it.

Liam Patterson-White fires one down on the short side and White takes a huge swipe with the ball flying of an edge head high to McCann at second slip.

The ball bursts through his hands and goes for four.

Flood lights are coming back on now as it is getting a little gloomy.

  7. Rain at Worcestershirepublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 26 May

    Worcs 181-8 (target 327) v Warwicks

    Bad news for Warwickshire fans.

Along with the bad light over Worcester, the covers are now on following slightly more heavier rain which we saw start during the lunch break.

We will inform you if any thing changes in this one but, for now, it's as you were.

  8. Postpublished at 53.4 overs

    Surrey 191-5 (target 418) v Essex

    Shane Snater replaces Jamie Porter.

Sam Curran attempts a cover drive and gets away with an inside edge to square leg for one.

  9. 50 for Cam Bancroftpublished at 14:44 British Summer Time 26 May

    Northants v Gloucs 116-2 (target 350)

A misfield from Luke Procter at mid off means 50 for Cameron Bancroft off 98 balls.

Bancroft has played an assured and mature innings so far, allowing Miles Harrison at the other end to attack, and put his side in with a terrific shout.

This third wicket partnership is now worth 80.

  10. Postpublished at 52.5 overs

    Surrey 189-5 (target 418) v Essex

Jamie Overton aims a big mow at a ball from Simon Harmer and gets away with an under-edge for a single.

Not the sort of shot that conveys an air of permanence at the crease.

  11. Postpublished at 52 overs

    Surrey 184-5 (target 418) v Essex

Jamie Overton is off the mark with a cover drive for four.

The next ball from Jamie Porter takes the edge but doesn't carry to diving keeper Michael Pepper.

"How many more have you got?" skipper Tom Westley asks his seam bowler.

  12. 50 runs

50 for Miles Hammondpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 26 May

    Northants v Gloucs 115-2 (target 350)

50 for Miles Hammond off 55 balls.

It's been a terrific knock so far from the Gloucestershire number four who has been proficient and attacked the bad balls brilliantly.

He and Cam Bancroft have given the visitors a real shout here.

Moments later, Northants think they have Hammond caught at silly point but it appears to hit the pad and not out is given by the umpire.

  13. wicket

Five-forpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 26 May

    Coad c Verreynne b Pennington 5 (Yorks 277-9, target 463)

Dillon Pennington strikes again to bring up a third first class career five-wicket haul.

That is too good and too fast for Ben Coad who backs away slightly and fends it unconvincingly, the edge flying to Kyle Verreynne who takes a fifth catch of the innings.

Pennington has a five-for for his previous club Worcs and now two for Notts and has kept up impressive pace throughout several spells.

He is making a fairly decent case to be man of the match here considering his two wickets in the first innings, 37 quickfire runs with the bat at No 10 and now five wickets here.

  14. Bad light stops play at Worcestershirepublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 26 May

    Worcs 181-8 (target 327) v Warwicks

    Oh dear.

Added drama here as the umpires take a light reading for the second time in as many overs and take the players off the field, with Warwickshire in need of just two wickets to win this local derby.

The covers are coming on and for the time being we will not have any play at New Road although, we suspect, that this match has not seen it's final ball just yet.

This was in the forecast and we will now have to wait and see if, and when, the players return.

    David Lloyd
    Former England player and coach

It might just have taken the glove, it hasn't needed a decision from the umpire, he just turns disconsolately and walks off very slowly.

Dominic Bess was playing stoutly, defensively, but it is another excellent delivery.

They have kept him going and that is a good delivery from Pennington, he has to play at it, a little extra bounce.

    A fourth wicket for Pennington.

Ben Coad will be the new bat

What a catch that was from Simon Harmer, now Essex are right on top.

Dillon Pennington does it again and Notts are closing in on the win.

The Notts fast bowler's levels have remained impressive throughout this game and he does Dom Bess for a yard of pace and little bit of lift off the pitch.

Bess tries to sway out of the way but it brushes his glove on the way through and Pennington has a fourth wicket.

  18. 100 up for Gloucestershirepublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 26 May

    Northants v Gloucs 104-2 (target 350)

A full ball outside the off stump from spinner Calvin Harrison is heaved back over the bowlers head by Cameron Bancroft for a one bounce four and the 100 is up for Gloucestershire.

In the following over, Harry Conway thinks he has Bancroft caught behind but replays showed it flicked the Australian's thigh pad instead - good decision by the umpire.

  19. wicket

WICKET - Roy bags a pairpublished at 48 overs

    Roy c Harmer b Porter 0 (Surrey 167-5 - target 418 - v Essex)

    What a catch.

Simon Harmer makes a fabulous left-handed grab at second slip as Jason Roy's second innings of the game lasts two balls.

Two wickets in the over for Jamie Porter, who now has 3-45 - and surely this is now a survival mission on their own patch for the reigning champions.

There have been calls from coaches around the game to go back to 5 or even 6 points maximum for a draw, to put more weight on the win.

Yes the draw points topic of conversation again!
