  1. Postpublished at 67 overs

    Surrey 234-5 (target 418) v Essex

We mentioned the light blue socks which Jamie Overton wore on days two or three of this game - he appears to have a pale yellow pair today. He sweeps Simon Harmer for a single but Sam Curran keeps the strike with one to mid-off.

  2. Postpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 26 May

    Northants v Gloucs 190-4 (target 350)

James Bracey drives slighly uppish but, with no fielder in sight, it runs away for his first boundary.

The following ball is then pulled delightfully by Bracey for another boundary.

11 off Luke Procter's over in total.

  3. Postpublished at 65 overs

    Surrey 227-5 (target 418) v Essex

A rare full toss by Simon Harmer and Sam Curran belts it to the cover boundary. He is now 71 not out and has passed his own first-innings score.

It is only six an over that is required here but the big problem for Surrey is that they are five down and we do not know what the weather holds from now until 7pm.

  5. Postpublished at 64 overs

    Surrey 219-5 (target 418) v Essex

A no-ball by Kasun Rajitha spoils an otherwise run-less over.

Surrey now need fewer than 200 runs but the required rate is well over six an over.

  6. Play resumes at Northantspublished at 16:01 British Summer Time 26 May

    Northants v Gloucs 173-4 (target 350)

We are back underway at Wantage Road and James Bracey is the new man in for Gloucestershire.

They are now coming back now as it stopped raining already.

Sam Curran got all the way to the steps, but not up them. Jamie Overton got all the way to the dressing room, we are waiting for him.

There will be a delay as all the bits and pieces were brought on by the groundstaff, and now they have to be taken off straight away again!

    The light is improving now!

  8. Postpublished at 63 overs

    Surrey 217-5 (target 418) v Essex

They don't even make it to the dressing rooms before the umpires call the players back out to the middle.

A few smiles among the Essex players but Sam Curran doesn't look all that chuffed about it.

    Play to continue.

Unfortunately we are off for rain again, this really is stop and start now, I do not think they will be off for too long.

It is now more about can Essex take the five wickets, I do not think we have enough time for Surrey to chase down these runs now.

  10. rain stops play

Rain stops play at The Ovalpublished at 63 overs

    Surrey 217-5 (target 418) v Essex

Superb delivery by Simon Harmer - a big off-break turns between bat and pad but Jamie Overton survives and sweeps the next for a single.

There is the odd drop of rain about and the umpires take them off.

  11. Postpublished at 15:55 British Summer Time 26 May

    Surrey 215-5 (target 418) v Essex

    Mark Church

I think I am right in saying this is Jamie Overton's first Championship game since last April, he is looking pretty solid so far though.

The umpires are coming together again, but there is no rain, and they deem the light ok at the moment.

  12. Postpublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 26 May

    Surrey 213-5 (target 418) v Essex

    Roland Butcher
Former England batter on BBC Sounds

They might have to be a little careful with the light if Sam Curran is getting a little short stuff here, or even the taller figure of Jamie Overton.

The umpires won't like it in these conditions if Rajitha goes too short.

  13. Postpublished at 60 overs

    Surrey 207-5 (target 418) v Essex

Kasun Rajitha is back into the attack for Essex.

Following a single for Sam Curran, his line is all wrong to Jamie Overton and four leg byes are added to the total.

Nottinghamshire players celebrate fourth win of the campaign

Jack White's hour long stay at the crease is finally broken as Mo Abbas finds the edge of his bat and Kyle Verreynne takes a sixth catch of the innings.

Victory for Notts was held up for 19.1 overs by the final pairing – Jordan Thompson finishes unbeaten on 20.

But a first wicket of the second innings for Abbas delivers a fourth win in seven for Peter Moores' side and confirms they will enter and exit the summer recess at the top of Division One.

It was a win that was fully deserved for all that Yorkshire showed some proper grit on day four. And it was one built on a solid batting display which today's birthday boy Joe Clarke contributed 64 and 94.

Abbas was superb in the first innings with 6-45 – his 49th career five-for – and while he missed out until the final ball in Yorkshire's second innings, Dillon Pennington stepped up.

The fast bowler was relentless and will need a long ice bath/pint after some seriously hot spells. He finished with seven in the match (5-106 in the second innings) and with 37 with the bat at No 10 deserves man of the match.

Floodlights are still on but there is blue sky at the moment.

We just have to wait and see if we're going to get through the rest of this unscathed.

  16. Postpublished at 58.3 overs

    Surrey 201-5 (target 418) v Essex

    Here we go again.

Simon Harmer to complete his over.

Sam Curran meets his first delivery with the full face of a defensive bat.

WICKET AND TEA AT NORTHANTSpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 26 May

Hammond lbw Bartlett 80 (Northants v Gloucs 171-4, target 350)

As soon as I say that, Miles Hammond is trapped LBW - how crucial could that be?

Golden arm George Bartlett, brought back into the attack by captain Luke Procter, traps Hammond on the pads just as he looked to be taking the game away from the hosts - completely in keeping with this see-saw of a match.

Brilliant from left-arm spinner Bartlett and, with that wicket, tea will now be taken.

This partnership has been going over an hour now, Jack White has spent over 60 minutes at the crease!

  19. Postpublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 26 May

    Northants v Gloucs 168-3 (target 350)

Back-to-back boundaries from Miles Hammond, the second of which is a superb pull shot, sees him move on to 79 not out.

    Hammond is really motoring now.

It's 30 years since Notts beat Yorkshire two matches in a row.

Yorkshire have won an awful lot of matches over Notts, put it that way!
