If this series is about learning for England then, win or lose, we can say England have learned something there.

They have learned that Phil Salt can dig in and play a slower innings. His 74 from 108 balls was by far his slowest ODI innings.

They have also seen that Dan Mousley can handle the pressure of the international stage. His 57 from 70 balls gave Jofra Archer and Jamie Overton the platform to take advantage in those final few overs.

    Cheers Sam.

I reckon we have got a game on. England scored 100 runs in those final 10 overs.

They have a chance, something that did not look possible at 24-4 and 94-5.

Quite the second half of the innings for England to, at the very least, make a game of it in this series decider.

To see if the tourists can continue their fightback at the start of the West Indies innings, I'll leave you in the eminently capable hands of Matthew Henry...

  4. 'We have got a very defendable score on the board'published at 21:59 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2024

England opener Phil Salt, speaking to TNT Sports: "I am glad we have got to the position we have got to. I would have liked to have gone on and made three figures after doing the hard work.

"It was hard with the new ball. It got a little better as the innings went on. We have got a very defendable score on the board.

"I was thinking I have to make the bowlers come back for their second and third spells. From where we were at to the position, we have got to I am very pleased."

England have got a par score. West Indies are slight favourites but that bit of momentum has given England a chance.

250? I obviously meant 260. This has been a marvellous glimpse of Archer’s undoubted potential with the bat. But you have to feel for Rutherford. He would never have been bowling if Shepherd had not broken down.

That injury to Romario Shepherd really cost West Indies in the end.

Sherfane Rutherford finished with 0-57 from his 3.5 overs - 44 of those came from overs 48 and 50.

  8. Eng 263-8published at 50 overs

A pair of twos to end the innings and Jofra Archer's unbeaten 38 has helped England up to a fairly respectable total!

It's certainly a good recovery from 24-4 with half-centuries from Phil Salt and Dan Mousley leading it, then key contributions from Craig Overton and Archer.

West Indies need 264 to win the match and the series.

  9. 6 runs

    Eng 259-8published at 49.4 overs

Jofra Archer nails the free hit over deep backward square for six!

He's up to 34 - his highest score in international cricket.

England have cruised past 250. Who saw this coming at 24-4?!

  10. 6 runs

    Eng 252-8published at 49.3 overs

    Six more!

Muscled high over the leg side by Jofra Archer!

And the next ball is clubbed down the ground for four - and it's a no-ball for height. Free hit coming up...

  11. Eng 242-8published at 49.2 overs

Bonus runs for England as Shimron Hetmyer makes a pig's ear of one out in the deep. Four runs to Jofra Archer and England.

  12. wicket

    Overton c Lewis b Forde 32 (Eng 238-8)

Four the previous ball but Jamie Overton falls with an over left in the innings.

It's clever bowling again from Matthew Forde - he's been good tonight - as he tempts Overton with a ball wide of off stump.

He's taken the pace off, though, and Overton has to hit into the wind and out towards the long boundary.

Straightforward catch for Evin Lewis at deep extra cover.

  13. Eng 233-7published at 48.2 overs

Superb from Matthew Forde to start his final over.

A big swing and a miss from Jofra Archer is followed by another play and miss, this time the England man deceived by a brilliant back-of-the-hand slower ball.

  14. Eng 233-7published at 48 overs

    Overton 28, Archer 13

Lovely shot from Jamie Overton to end the over, helping the ball on its way down to fine leg for four.

A very useful over for England - 19 from it - and they'll get another one from Sherfane Rutherford to end the innings, you'd expect.

It's not pretty but it sure is effective from Jofra Archer!

He skips down and clubs Sherfane Rutherford over wide long-on for six.

This is Archer's highest ODI score...

Overton really should be taking the strike here.

  17. Eng 217-7published at 47.1 overs

Jofra Archer is in ahead of Adil Rashid and he gets two from the first ball of Sherfane Rutherford's over.

That's followed by a leg-side wide. England will take them however they come.

England have nowhere near enough but two of the last three overs have to be bowled by Rutherford. Overton is going to target him with a view to getting up to 250 or thereabouts.

  19. Eng 214-7published at 47 overs

Thick outside edge from Craig Overton and the ball flies away past short third - four handy runs for England.

Still, at this stage of the innings that's a very good over from Alzarri Joseph. Seven from it and he's dismissed the set batter.

  20. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 46.1 overs

    Mousley c Lewis b Joseph 57 (Eng 207-7)

Heaved to deep mid-wicket but straight into the hands of Evin Lewis.

Dan Mousley moved a long way to leg to try and give himself room, Alzarri Joseph followed him but the England batter still managed to get decent distance leg side.

However, it was off the toe-end of the bat, into the wind and Lewis takes the catch a yard off the cushion.
