    Geddes c Patel b Holland 6 (Middlesex 232 & 80-5 - lead by 38 runs v Leics 274)

Middlesex's batters are dropping like flies.

Ben Geddes is gone without really troubling the scorers for the hosts as he's caught by Rishi Patel off Ian Holland.

Just 29 runs for the past five wickets. Leicestershire are in the ascendancy.

    Surrey 512 v Yorkshire 255 & 1-0 - trail by 256 runs

And so begins Yorkshire's mammoth task of trying to stay in the game in their second innings.

It starts with a big appeal as Adam Lyth is struck on the knee roll by Nathan Smith with the second ball.

They get through for a single but Surrey are convinced that was a close call for lbw.

    Durham 441-5 v Notts 407

Graham Clark gets away with one as a thick outside edge runs away to the third man boundary and goes to 28.

    Durham 442-5 v Notts 407

    Melinda Farrell
Sports broadcaster/journalist on BBC Hereford & Worcestershire

Durham have certainly got themselves into a good position to play for something.

I do think that time will have a say in how this one turns out.

  11. Postpublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 18 May

    Somerset 338 v Sussex 152 & 226-7 f/o - lead by 40 runs

Just a couple off the first over after lunch from Josh Davey. Sussex will be looking to dig in for as long as feasibly possible.

John Turner begins proceedings after lunch at Edgbaston with Alex Davies on strike.

It should be an exciting couple of sessions.

Kyle Abbott returns to the attack. Hold on to your hats.

    Lunch: Somerset 338 v Sussex 152 & 224-7

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Somerset were always going to have to work hard to take the six Sussex wickets that they needed on an increasingly flat pitch, but they could not have made a better start.

Tom Alsop was well caught at first slip by Lewis Gregory off Craig Overton from his first ball of the day and in the same over, nightwatchman James Hayes was run out when Tom Banton scored a direct hit.

But the advent of Sussex's prolific captain John Simpson steadied the ship, and it was only by courtesy of batting error that Somerset collected their third of the morning when James Coles, who'd batted nicely for his 39, drove Jack Leach to mid-off.

On the face of it, with Sussex just 38 ahead with only three wickets left, this should be a comfortable Somerset win, but as long as Simpson is there, Sussex hopes will be - just about - alive.

Never mind Laurel & Hardy, Scott and 'Fletch' are definitely the top 2 commentators for County Cricket. Not only amusing but knowledgeable and even-handed. A great team, thank you.

  16. Lunch at The Ovalpublished at 13:12 British Summer Time 18 May

    Surrey 512 v Yorkshire 255

The end of Surrey's innings signals the lunch break.

Yorkshire have about 40 minutes to ponder over the daunting task of coming out to bat and trying to eat into that 257-run deficit.

  17. Postpublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 18 May

    Lunch: Worcs 358 & 134 v Essex 157

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

Both sides will be relatively satisfied with a morning session that left Essex needing an improbable 336 to win.

After three early wickets it looked possible that Essex might be chasing less than 300 but Ethan Brookes played a valuable hand making 38 and sharing 45 for the ninth wicket with Matthew Waite, a partnership that helped re-enforce the strength of Worcestershire’s position.

The home side won’t have the resources to match a superb spell from Simon Harmer, who bowled unchanged to return 4-37, but there’s still plenty on offer for the seamers.

Essex will try to be more positive with the bat but they will need a much better start to stay in contention.

  18. 'Surrey will be happy with that'published at 13:10 British Summer Time 18 May

    Surrey 512 v Yorkshire 255

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

A good high catch from Hill as Fisher is the final man out.

A huge amount of work for Yorkshire, they will be out there after lunch.

Surrey will be happy with that, they've put as many on the board in this session.

  20. wicket

SURREY ALL OUT FOR 512published at 13:08 British Summer Time 18 May

    Fisher c Hill b Thompson 18 (Surrey 512 v Yorkshire 255)

    At long last for Yorkshire.

It's short from Jordan Thompson and it catches Matt Fisher's top edge on the way through to George Hill who makes the grab - two catches to go with his five-for.

Every single batter got into double figures for Surrey, who really do bat from one to 11.

The hosts rack up a huge score - more than double the amount Yorkshire managed.

    Their lead is 257.
