Watching an England cricket team look this flat, is a bit like watching the Welsh rugby team over the last year. It's a bit sad.

South Africa are totally in control of this game. If England could have got 260, we could have had a game on our hands.

  3. SA 97-2published at 18 overs

    Target 180

A single to Van der Dussen brings up the fifty partnership between himself and Heinrich Klaasen.

South Africa aren't exactly racing towards their target, but they are very much in cruise control. England need a miracle.

Overton is having a word with the umpire to say that it definitely hit his boot. "One hundred percent", he's saying.

  5. Not outpublished at 17.1 overs

There appears to be no deflection off Jamie Overton's boot, and Rassie van der Dussen survives.

    Overton isn't impressed.

England are certain they have him. It was hit so hard I thought it was going for four until the bails flashed. This could be the most unlucky run out imaginable.

  7. Umpire reviewpublished at 17.1 overs

    Thanks, Elizabeth.

That prediction may be correct. Jamie Overton thinks he's run out Rassie van der Dussen at the non-striker's end, via his foot in his follow-through.

  8. SA 95-2published at 17 overs

    Target 180

A slightly nervy moment for Heinrich Klaasen as he loops one into the air before it drops safely into the outfield. Otherwise, it's a routine over, with South Africa continuing to rotate the strike nicely.

And with that, it's time for me to make way for Ffion Wynne. A wicket fell three balls after we swapped in the first innings. A good omen for England?

Overton is drying the ball on his shirt, which suggests a lot more dew and humidity. The sea air as well contributes to the dew more here at Karachi.

  10. SA 89-2published at 16 overs

    Target 180

A textbook cover drive from Heinrich Klaasen - his fifth boundary of the innings. Jamie Overton concedes eight from his second over.

For those following along for cat updates, it's mooching around in the outfield.

  11. SA 81-2published at 15 overs

Adil Rashid... opens with a wide.

Rassie van der Dussen and Heinrich Klaasen take a single each. South Africa need 99 runs to win.

At last! Time for Adil Rashid.

Van der Dussen is one of those patient players who steers his team to victory in a controlled fashion. Klaasen on the other hand would take you to the cleaners.

Drinks break - SA 78-2published at 14 overs

    Target 180

Heinrich Klaasen gets on strike early in the over and immediately finds the boundary, finding a gap in the covers. Saqib Mahmood and Jos Buttler set off in pursuit but the ball wins the race to the rope.

Two balls later, he drives straight to a fielder in the off-side and is furious about the missed opportunity. No matter. He finishes the over with another four.

England's batting heavy strategy has left their bowling light in the middle overs, and it's shown - they've averaged 93.00 in the phase during this competition.

That's the worst they have recorded in all but one series/tournament since records began - and the only one beating it was 121.50 against the West Indies back in November.

There's a black cat on the outfield. Insert metaphor here.

  17. SA 69-2published at 13 overs

    Target 180

Jofra Archer. Rod Tucker. Wide. The bowler doesn't even look around as Heinrich Klaasen ducks under a bouncer. He knows the umpire's arms will be outstretched.

It's an otherwise tidy over, bringing four runs.

Buttler clearly wants to hold off spin for a while longer.

This pitch isn't the best batting pitch, we have heard the ball clunk into the bat a few times but it is certainly not a 179 all out pitch.

  19. SA 65-2published at 12 overs

    Target 180

Jamie Overton begins with alternating singles and dots but his fifth ball is a touch short and pulled hard through mid-wicket for four by Heinrich Klaasen.

A nice over from Archer. That wide feels a little bit hard done by but that's coming from a fellow bowler.

He's not getting much bounce out of the pitch here but Rashid may be able to get some spin out of it later on.
