Rabada is one of the best at those yorker deliveries. He does a very good job of making sure that the free hit does not go to the boundary.

  2. Eng 135-7published at 27.3 overs

A rare error from Kagiso Rabada, who gives away a free hit from a no-ball, but he executes his yorker perfectly and Jofra Archer can't make the most of it.

Marco Jansen kickstarted the chaos this morning with three quick wickets, though they were all gifted to him.

Phil Salt made eight, Jamie Smith a duck and Ben Duckett was caught and bowled for 24.

There’s a physio bed in the TMS box today. I think I need a lie down after watching this.

There were reputations to uphold and impressions that could have been made today from Smith, Salt and Brook. No-one has stepped up and had a huge impact on this game.

Incredible fielding. He is a big fast bowler and Rabada is as surpirsed as anyone that his fellow bowler has taken that catch.

We knew it was going to go one way or the other today, and it's gone the worst way for England.

What magnificent catch from Ngidi! South Africa players have all gone to mob him and Overton just stands and watches.

    Well, that didn't take long.

It's a cracking catch from Lungi Ngidi, who sprints back from mid-on before diving forward and sticking out his left hand, somehow managing to keep it under control as he slides across the ground.

But, surprisingly, it's another soft dismissal as Jamie Overton buckles under the pressure with a miscued chip with no real intent behind it.

    Thanks, Elizabeth.

Morning, everyone. Have I missed much?

  12. Eng 129-6published at 25 overs

Well, England have made it to the halfway mark of their innings (something which didn't always feel likely).

Here's Ffion Wynne to take you through the next (hopefully) 25 overs.

A sliding Tristan Stubbs can't stop Jamie Overton from finding the boundary.

"The comeback is on," quips Callum to my left. Hmmm.

Overton has great potential as a batter, which he developed at Surrey when they pushed him up the order. He can be a dangerous hitter and when the ball hits the middle of his bat it flies away.

However, it's never easy in this middle order to try and build a partnership.

Since the start of 2024, England's batters have hit 162 deliveries in the air without being in control - that's the most of any team in the world - despite playing just the ninth most matches.

While it's a shame this match is being played in front of such a small crowd, being able to see all of the coloured blocks of seating in Karachi whenever the camera pans around the boundary is lovely. It has the calming effect of looking at paint charts in B&Q.

Jamie Overton and Jos Buttler take five singles off the over. They're so close to passing their lowest Champions Trophy score.

South Africa are hoping one of these two will toss it up in the air, the same way Brook did.

Re-building the innings means reading the situation and that's hard when you have not been winning matches. I would have liked to have seen Buttler in higher than six.

The lowest score England have made in a Champions Trophy is 125, if you're wondering.

That was against India in Jaipur in 2006.

  19. Eng 119-6published at 23 overs

Another quiet over comes and goes.

Jos Buttler and Jamie Overton rotate the strike a couple of times before the skipper defends the final two balls of Keshav Maharaj's fifth over. South Africa's spinner has 2-21.

  20. Eng 116-6published at 22 overs

Lungi Ngidi makes a tidy return to the attack for South Africa, conceding just a pair of singles.
