    Lancs 226-5 target 473 v Glam

A great day for Glamorgan as they search for a victory that would keep them on course for promotion.

Coming back 95-2, captain Sam Northeast made 132 and Kieron Carlson 108 to steer their side towards a declaration and a set a huge target of 473.

Luke Wells’ 102 had Lancashire well placed at 188-3 but he fell and the wicket of Matty Hurst has put Glamorgan on course to win.

Marcus Harris will come back in the morning on 24 - Lancashire’s last hope.

Can Lancashire creep to the close still just about in the game?

It almost looks like an impossible task for Lancashire now.

Initially they didn't allow the bowlers to settle but the likes of Kellaway is finding some success.

Matty Hurst now gone and Glamorgan are halfway there.

An ugly swing at Ben Kellaway and he’s cleaned up.

    Lancs 201-4 - target 473 v Glam

Six overs to go at Old Trafford and Glamorgan are searching for another breakthrough to make them firm favourites tomorrow.

They are already, but while Marcus Harris is there, currently only 17, Lancashire will hold some hope of this massive target.

Ethan Bamber scored a maiden first class century

The umpires have called time on account of worsening light.

Warwickshire will be very satisfied at their efforts today after Ed Barnard's calm head at the end of the day saw them avoid the follow-on.

It has probably removed any possibility of Essex winning this match given how hard it has been to eke out wickets.

Three days has seen 19 go down so the prospect of another 11 tomorrow for the hosts (with a bit of batting in between) would seem unlikely.

Ethan Bamber can take a bow after a maiden century (107) did much of the damage, and as nightwatchman, too.

But Ed Barnard's unbeaten 90 pushed it close and Vaansh Jani's 41 on debut deserves a mention.

Matt Critchley with 5-156 and Shane Snater with 3-64 brought the follow tantalisingly close but Essex were unable to get over the line.

  8. 'That could be a significant turning point'published at 18:58 British Summer Time

    Lancs 188-4 (target 473) v Glamorgan

    Scott Read

It was a fabulous catch to remove him.

Wells played a little bit early there, Harris did so well to get his hands under it.

That could be a really significant turning point in this match.

  9. Close of play at New Roadpublished at 18:57 British Summer Time

    Worcs 249 v Hants 293 & 139-2

Nick Gubbins (55) and Tilak Varma (33) have put together a 63 run partnership to extend Hants lead to 183 with eight wickets remaining.

It is a strong enough position with a day to come but with the last two days yielding 10 wickets apiece the draw has to be favourite.

That said, a draw is no good to Worcs who will have to take some risks and that probably makes Hampshire slight favourites if there is to be a result.

Jake Libby's 100 stands out from Worcs innings but the manner of a 8-62 collapse from 187-2 at the start of the day says much about what has gone wrong this season.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:56 British Summer Time

    Wells c & b Harris 102 (Lancs 188-4, target 473 v Glamorgan)

That might well be game up for Lancashire...

After going to a fine hundred, Luke Wells is caught and bowled by Glamorgan seamer James Harris.

Matty Hurst joins Marcus Harris in the middle for the last few overs of day three.

  11. Warwickshire avoid the follow onpublished at 18:49 British Summer Time

    Essex 602-6d v Warwickshire 456-9

With the fielders up trying to stop the single Ed Barnard drives to the boundary through mid off to hit the rope and avoid the follow-on.

  12. 100 runs

for Wellspublished at 18:46 British Summer Time

    Lancs 184-3 (target 473) v Glamorgan

This is some innings by Luke Wells in tricky late evening conditions at Old Trafford.

The Lancashire number three has sped onto 102 off 113 balls, with 12 fours and four sixes.

The target required is now below 300. 289 to be precise.

  13. Postpublished at 18:45 British Summer Time

    Essex 602-6d v Warwickshire 452-9

Ed Barnard is waiting for a four or six ball off Matt Critchley but, after five dots, he manages to hoik pull a three off the final delivery and keeps the strike.

A single off Shane Snater will avoid the follow on.

  14. 'Finding a four will be very difficult'published at 18:37 British Summer Time

    Essex 602-6d v Warwickshire 448-9

    Richard Wilford
    BBC Radio WM commentator

    There are singles everywhere here.

It's like a game within a game, finding a four will be very difficult.

    Snater has bowled brilliantly today.

  15. Close at Northantspublished at 18:36 British Summer Time

    Northants 550-9 dec v Derbyshire 377 & 52-4

Northants end day three in complete control.

Faced with a first-innings deficit of 173, Derbyshire have fallen to 52-4 at stumps with Rob Keogh grabbing the key wicket of Wayne Madsen just before the close.

Northants will be confident of wrapping up a big win on Friday.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:34 British Summer Time

    Rocchicciioli c & b Critchley 16 (Essex 6-2-6d v Warwickshire 448-9)

Matt Critchley does it again and takes a smart catch in his follow through (he now has 5-144).

More importantly Warwickshire still need five to avoid the follow-on with 453 the target.

  17. Close of play at Scarboroughpublished at 18:29 British Summer Time

    Yorks 545-9d v Sussex 222 & 115-3

Yorkshire remain in a solid position but there is no denying that last hour and a half was a frustration for the hosts.

At 20-3 after Tom Haines, Tom Alsop and James Coles were out, Sussex looked on the ropes with legs wobbling but Daniel Hughes (56) and Danial Ibrahim (50) have cleared heads.

The lead remains formidable with Sussex trailing by 208 and Dom Bess's side remain red hot favourites going into day four.

Matthew Revis' latest heroic display with the bat – finishing unbeaten on 152 – continued a superb run of form and was the standout performance in Yorkshire's towering total.

But George Hill (75) was a worthy effort on the undercard.

  18. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:22 British Summer Time

    Jani lbw b Critchley 41 (Essex 602-6d v Warwickshire 431-8)

Critchley has a fourth wicket and there was not much doubt about it, a top spinner which pings Vansh Jani as he offers a forward defensive.

For a batter on first-class debut that was a decent effort from Jani for all that he has missed out on a half century.

  19. 'Pressure mounting on Lancashire'published at 18:16 British Summer Time

    Lancashire 159-3 (target 473) v Glamorgan

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Manchester Sport

The pressure is mounting on Lancashire now.

The race for promotion is slipping from their grasp.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:16 British Summer Time

    Bohannon c Cooke b Fernando 29 (Lancs 159-3, target 473 v Glamorgan)

Asitha Fernando gets the big wicket of Josh Bohannon and Lancashire are back in trouble at Old Trafford.

There are still a scheduled 19 overs remaining, although I'm not sure we'll get all those in!
