09:17: "might turn more later". Great, should be good for the team bowling second then. Oh wait... How many spinners did we bring?

    Huge blow. Hammer blow.

From the moment Joe Root was struck by Ravindra Jadeja, it seemed inevitable.

Back foot, heading towards the top of middle. Given out on the field, the review taken out of hope more than anything else.

Umpire's call on the stumps, but a fair enough decision.

Not 150 all out. A Root/Buttler recovery to 150, then another four quick wickets before the sad demise of the tail leaving us at 186 all out.

Binary cricket at the moment. Dots and dashes. Singles or nothing. End of the 18th over. We haven't had a boundary since halfway through the 14th.

Jos Buttler has come into bat before the 15th over on 23 occasions when he has batted in positions five or lower in an ODI. 13 of those 23 occasions have now come since the start of 2022.

It's spin from both ends. Jadeja with his finger-spin, Kuldeep with the wristies. Lively in Nagpur. Not many empty seats. A nice smattering of England shirts in the crowd, too.

Joe Root v Kuldeep Yadav in ODIs: five innings, one dismissal, 83 runs off 85 balls.

Jos Buttler v Kuldeep Yadav in ODIs: three innings, two dismissals, five runs off nine balls.

Finally, some recognition of the hardship we have to go through.

Root and Buttler have done a reasonable job of settling things down here. One thing to note, amid the chat of this being a good pitch, are the puffs of dust we're seeing when the ball lands. Might turn more later.

Sometimes I think being a BBC live texter would be a dream job, and then England lose a few wickets and I come to the conclusion I'm not mentally strong enough to deal with all the negativity.

I agree with Robin, Brook is very over-rated. He doesn’t seem to have a Plan B or the ability to build an innings. Comes on after 10 overs bat properly for the next 20 then do the Brook things we know he can do. Watch the master Root and learn.

Harry Brook was done by decent bowling. Harshit bowled with great pace and heart. Brook's tricky tour continues but he is good enough to come through it.

That's nice from Root, getting low to reverse-sweep Kuldeep for four. Drinks are being taken. It's been eventful.

If Buttler and Root stick around for another 15 overs, even scoring at 4 an over, England may be able to get to 300.
