That's a wrap from us, after England lost by four wickets in the first ODI at Nagpur.

Take a read of Matthew Henry's report to see how it played out.

We'll back for the second game in this three-match series on Sunday, that's another 08:00 GMT start.

    Have a good evening.

Jofra Archer's ability to read game situations and understand what's needed is brilliant. He's a point of difference. It's exciting to see him bowling quick and it's exciting to see him bowling two games in a row.

Adil Rashid has been the glue for this England bowling line up. As long as we've got him, he should play. It will be interesting to see if Rehan Ahmed gets an opportunity.

Really interestingly, Axar Patel was promoted from eight to five. They wanted to break up the left-handers. When you look at England, they've got a lot of right-handers in a row. India didn't have to change the attack much so I think England might need to look at taking a similar approach.

  3. 'I was just trying to be positive'published at 15:42 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February

Player of the match Shubman Gill: "I was just trying to be positive. I think there was a bit in it for the fast bowlers with the new ball. I tried not to get on the back foot and tried to play the ball.

"I think it was sticking a bit. When the spinners were bowling, the odd ball was turning a bit. They bowled well. The fast bowlers, some were bowling nicely, some were sticking. We changed the pace well."

  4. 'The way we came back was superb'published at 15:39 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February

India captain Rohit Sharma: "Pretty happy. We all knew we were coming off a long time not playing this format. We had to regroup as quickly as possible and understand what needs to be done. It didn't start off well, with the openers putting on pressure, but the way we came back was superb.

"This is a long-ish format when you have time to come back in the game. When things start coming away from you, it doesn't mean it'll keep coming away. Credit to the bowlers, everyone chipped in. We took wickets at crucial times and the energy was great on the field.

"I want us to keep doing the right things as often as possibly. There is nothing specific we want to achieve, we want to tick every box that's there to be ticked. We pretty much managed to do that today, if we hadn't lost wickets at the end that'd have been good."

  5. 'We need to do better for longer'published at 15:38 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February

England captain Jos Buttler: "Disappointed to not win. We got off to a fantastic start, the two opening guys were really aggressive. Losing four wickets close together got us down. We saw how the wicket played, 40 runs would've been crucial.

"It’s not how we want to play. We’re trying to put the opposition under pressure and try to keep the momentum going for as long as possible."

On bowling: "The guys started really well. At one point, the game was in the balance. If we had found a chance earlier, it would've been different. It was a good partnership from Gill and Iyer though.

"We need to play better, execute better and play better for longer. We've shown in stages that we can do better but we need to do better for longer when under pressure."

We look back to Bethell's Test debut, he made 10 but was there for an hour or so. He missed a lot but he wasn't rushed. He played the line and understood what was needed from him batting at the start of the order. He was the same today, batting unflustered.

Bethell strikes me as a very similar character to Joe Root. When Root came in, you could see the ability and shots, you take that as a given, it was the mentality.

It looked like Bethell had played a long time in India, like he had a game plan and he stuck to it.

India have made it to important stages of big competitions in the past couple of years. If they see a chink in your armour, with the experience they have, they'll take advantage of it. A sign of a good team and a sign of a team with confidence is what India did out there today.

We need to look at the positives in this England performance. I know the cynics will say there are none but England were flawless in the drinks break. Not a single dropped cup. Also Root’s beard is looking great.

You can tell England haven't played 50-over cricket for a while. It's not about not caring, but it was just a bit lacklustre.

That first act of the run-out and the wicketkeeping at the end summed up England's day. The talent is there, the ability is there, they just need to sharpen up.

England did well in the powerplay. They lost three quick wickets, Buttler looked comfortable but then they just collapsed.

If they had hung in there, they could've offered a challenge but India winning in 40 overs is a fair reflection of what happened today.

India wrap up the win to go one up in this three-match series.

Shubman Gill top-scored with 87 from 96, while Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel also made fifties.

Saqib Mahmood finished with 2-47 from his 6.4 overs, while Adil Rashid had 2-48 from his 10.

    Ind 251-6

    And that's that!

Jadeja edges behind and Salt spills the catch, seeing the ball run away to the boundary.

An ugly end to a match that India have won comfortably, securing the win with over 11 overs to spare.

  14. Ind 247-6published at 38.2 overs

Jadeja picks up two through the off side, then chops Mahmood through mid-on for four.

India are two runs away from victory.

Livingstone replaces Adil Rashid, who completed his 10 overs with figures of 2-49.

Hardik plays a horrific shot off the second ball of the over, spooning a leading edge over the bowler's head.

England have a leg slip in - maybe India will offer four catches to him.

  16. Ind 237-6published at 37 overs

Ravindra Jadeja in at number eight.

He and Hardik take a single apiece off the back-end of Mahmood's over.

    Gill c Buttler b Mahmood 87 (Ind 235-6)

There'll be no century for Shubman Gill!

He advances down the track to hit Saqib Mahmood for a beautiful four through the covers but departs from the following ball.

He double-hits the ball high on the bat attempting the pull and Jos Buttler takes the catch on the dive at mid-on.

    Gill goes for a 96-ball 87.

  18. 6 runs

    Ind 231-5published at 36 overs

    18 needed from 84 balls

    Gets the run-rate going again!

Hardik Pandya goes hard from his second ball, launching Rashid for six over mid-wicket.

I'd been wondering if India were trying to farm the strike for Gill, who's on 83, to make his century.

If so, Hardik's having none of that.

    Patted back to the bowler.

KL Rahul gets a little bit too much on a defensive nudge and Adil Rashid takes the catch.

In the two balls prior to that, he'd slipped the ball past the bat leading to a stumping check then hit Rahul a little too high on the leg.

  20. Ind 224-4published at 35 overs

    25 needed from 90 balls

Back comes Saqib Mahmood for another go before it wraps up.

Two singles off this over, two singles off the last one.

Shame the required run-rate is 1.65 an over.
