  1. WICKET: Leaning lbw Porter 4published at 11:27 14 April

    Essex 530-7 dec v Kent 258-3

Only two wickets fell all day on day two at Chelmsford.

We've now had two inside half-an-hour.

Jamie Porter has both of them lbw. After taking the important wicket of Bell-Drummond he now has the scalp of Jack Leaning too.

Kent are 13-2 this morning after piling up the runs yesterday.

  2. Postpublished at 11:24 14 April

    Warwickshire 698-3 dec v Durham 197-3

An escape for Ollie Robinson, who looks to steer one down the leg side off Chris Rushworth and it's almost pouched by the fielder at leg slip.

Not 100% certain there was bat on it, but if there was then Warwickshire will feel that might be a chance missed.

Instead, Robinson remains on 31 not out.

  3. WICKET: Clark c Rew b Aldridge 13published at 11:22 14 April

    Somerset 285 v Surrey 365-7

Jordan Clark won't be happy with this one as he tries to play at Kasey Aldridge's ball which is way down the leg side and clips it behind to James Rew.

Not the best ball Aldridge will send down but he'll take it!

That brings Jamie Overton to the crease - where he is immediately given a short ball by twin brother Craig as a welcome to the game.

  4. Postpublished at 11:21 14 April

    Notts 399 v Worcs 238-6

An important seventh-wicket stand for Worcestershire between Brett D'Oliveira and Nathan Smith is now worth 52.

The visitors were more than 200 behind when these two came together, but they have steadied the Worcestershire ship somewhat.

  5. 100 for Alex Leespublished at 11:20 14 April

    Warwickshire 698-3 dec v Durham 191-3

And there it is! First-class hundred number 25 for Durham opener Alex Lees and he becomes the fourth centurion of the match at Edgbaston.

  6. Postpublished at 11:18 14 April

    Warwickshire 698-3 dec v Durham 190-3

The 50 partnership is up between Alex Lees and Ollie Robinson, although the Durham pair almost got themselves in a mix-up when running through for a single and a shy at the stumps was just off target.

Lees then nudges another single and is one away from a hundred.

  7. WICKET: Bell-Drummond lbw Porter 135published at 11:14 14 April

    Essex 530-7 dec v Kent 249-2

    Jamie PorterImage source, Rex Features

First wicket of the day and it's the Kent skipper.

Daniel Bell-Drummond could only add one run to his overnight score of 134 but nonetheless it's been a great innings and his second successive County Championship century.

Jamie Porter traps the batter lbw for his first wicket of the match.

  8. Postpublished at 11:11 14 April

    Somerset 285 v Surrey 363-6

Somerset have tasked Craig Overton and Kasey Aldridge with trying to take some early Surrey wickets.

Cameron Steel, who is eyeing a half-century, and Jordan Clark have been watchful early on and negotiated the early over without fuss.

  9. Postpublished at 11:10 14 April

    Hampshire 367 v Lancashire 235-4

A patient start by Lancashire's fifth-wicket pair of Keaton Jennings and George Bell, with Jennings nudging a couple of singles off Liam Dawson and James Fuller in the first three overs of the day to move up to 87.

    Bell is unbeaten on 10.

  10. Postpublished at 11:05 14 April

    Notts 399 v Worcs 225-6

Notts have opened with a mixture of spin and seam at Trent Bridge.

Calvin Harrison and Dillon Pennington have taken five of the six first-innings wickets to fall so far and they've been trusted first up by captain Haseeb Hameed.

  11. Postpublished at 11:01 14 April

    Warwickshire 698-3 dec v Durham 180-3

Alex Lees passes 10,000 first-class runs with a cut for two off Chris Rushworth's second ball of the day.

Up to 96 not out now...

Yorkshire will be looking to build on their already sizeable lead at Gloucestershire. They resume on 57-0 in their second innings, leading by 120.

Another side looking to set their opponents a tough target are Glamorgan. The Welsh side are 74-4 against Derbyshire, 113 in front, in one of our only games where the bowlers have shone.

Leicestershire against Sussex is in the balance. Sussex are 282-6 in their first innings, trailing by 56.

And at Northants, Middlesex restart on 128-1 with teenager Nathan Fernandes on 65. They're still 424 behind Northants' mammoth 552-6 declared.

Trent Bridge was the only ground to produce a result in the first round of fixtures and there's every chance it will do so again this week, given the situation of the match at the halfway point.

Nottinghamshire reduced Worcestershire to 220-6 in their first innings by the end of day two, a deficit of 179 for the visitors.

Brett D'Oliveira and Nathan Smith have added a handy 34 so far for the seventh wicket and they will resume at the crease this morning hoping to bring that deficit down as much as possible.

  15. Postpublished at 10:54 14 April

    Somerset 285 v Surrey 358-6

Surrey begin day three in a good position. They have a lead of 73 and will look to use Sunday morning to turn that into a potentially match-winning one.

Dom Sibley (100) and Rory Burns (75) led from the front for the 2022 and 2023 champions, putting on 167 for the first wicket, as Surrey advanced from their overnight 42 without loss to 358-6.

They lost Ben Foakes lbw for 57 in the closing overs as he tried to flick a Lewis Gregory delivery behind square but Cameron Steel is still there on 35 not out alongside Jordan Clark, who was unbeaten on seven at stumps.

  16. Postpublished at 10:52 14 April

    Essex 530-7 dec v Kent 245-1

Daniel Bell-Drummond celebrates scoring a centuryImage source, Rex Features

It's not been fun for bowlers so far at Chelmsford with batters taking the opportunity to notch up the runs.

Indeed we've seen four centuries already, Matt Critchley's unbeaten 151 the highest so far.

But Kent skipper Daniel Bell-Drummond resumes on 134 not out - his second-successive County Championship century - and batting partner Ben Compton is unbeaten on 100 exactly.

Only two wickets fell all day on day two on a benign pitch, so will it be more of the same today, or can the bowlers make some inroads?

  17. Postpublished at 10:49 14 April

    Warwickshire 698-3 dec v Durham 178-3

It's fair to say batters have been on top at Edgbaston - the cumulative match score is 876-6 after two days.

Durham will resume this morning on 178-3, still 520 runs behind Warwickshire's mammoth 698-3 declared.

Alex Lees, an England Test opener not so long ago, is six runs away from his 25th first-class century and needs only two more to reach the milestone of 10,000 first-class runs in his career.

  18. Postpublished at 10:46 14 April

    Hampshire 367 v Lancashire 233-4

Honours just about even at the halfway point of the match between Hampshire and Lancashire, in which plenty of batters have made starts but nobody has yet gone on to make three figures.

Lancashire captain Keaton Jennings will be hoping to do so this morning, resuming on 85 not out.

How many more he adds to that total could well determine the course of the remainder of this game.
