Boundaries are so hard to come by and we probably saw that in the game previous. Boundaries are so much easier in the powerplay. Out of the powerplay, there's a bit of a sticky surface.

You’ve got to count it as a win for the Phoenix bowlers that the Mexican Wave has come out so early in the game.

We certainly haven’t seen the flurry of boundaries you’d expect to keep the crowd entertained so far.

  3. Brave 37-1published at 40 balls

Southern Brave's batters see Moeen Ali's introduction as a chance to put their foot down and speed up their rate of scoring.

Six runs come off the set, but Phoenix's fielders do a good job at stopping any boundaries coming through.

  4. Brave 31-1published at 35 balls

A good start for Sean Abbott, with his first set giving up just three balls.

James Vince and Leus du Plooy have put on a 31-run stand so far, but off 33 balls, it is a more relaxed start from the duo so far while they both get settled.

Phoenix captain Moeen Ali is bringing himself on next, a first taste of spin in this match.

I think you sometimes get some quite rowdy evenings here, but I love the gentle build in a day like today. It's not quite the mayhem of T20 finals day where you have three matches but I think the Oval works really well actually as a venue for two games because you've got loads of parts of the ground you can go and explore.

  6. Brave 28-1published at 30 balls

Seven runs come from Chris Wood's second set of the innings.

Funnily enough, his namesake opened the scoring for Nottingham Forest in their 1-1 draw with Bournemouth earlier today.

The Phoenix are now opting for a change of bowler, with Sean Abbott joining the attack.

It only took Adam Milne two balls to take the first wicket of the match.

  8. Brave 26-1published at 27 balls

For the first time in 12 balls, Southern Brave find the boundary, with Leus du Plooy adding four.

A fuller ball from Chris Wood is dispatched back past him and runs away towards the rope.

A really good start from the Birmingham Phoenix. They've been on the money from ball one.

  10. Brave 21-1published at 25 balls

Tim Southee must have seen plenty of inspiration from Chris Wood's last set.

Just two runs come from his latest five balls and at the end of the powerplay, the Brave are 21-1.

You'd have to say the Phoenix are on top so far, but it's still early days yet.

  11. Brave 19-1published at 20 balls

Chris Wood is into the attack and starts off his evening with a rarely seen maiden set.

    Five dot balls. Spot on.

It just seems that like that ball is not swinging as much and I remember Liam Livingstone saying at the start of the tournament, the best way to stop that ball from swinging is to absolutely whack it to the boundary.

  13. Brave 19-1published at 15 balls

Adam Milne starts the set with a couple of dots, but the duo of James Vince and Leus du Plooy keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Du Plooy ends the set with a beautiful drive through the cover and point fielders to find four, with eight runs off that set.

Vince is over 100 runs clear of any other batter in the men's Hundred this year and getting him out early could be make or break for the Phoenix.

That's vintage Vince. Just evades that mid-off fielder and once it's past that inner ring here at the Oval, it's four every time.

  15. Brave 11-1published at 10 balls

Just as he started the first set from Tim Southee, James Vince ends it in the same fashion, with a four.

A drive into the ground does just enough to take it through the ring field and hit the rope down at cover.

A total of 10 runs come from that Tim Southee set and Adam Milne is given the ball back for the next set.

  16. Brave 5-1published at 6 balls

Almost a first ball wicket for Southee, but a thick edge from James Vince finds four, rather than a fielder.

The women's game earlier today was quite low-scoring and given what the ball is doing in the early stages of this match, we could be in for more of the same here.

  17. Brave 1-1published at 5 balls

Adam Milne is getting the ball to swing all sorts of ways and batting against it is proving to be quite a challenge.

Just one single comes off the first set of five.

Tim Southee will continue on from Milne's excellent start.

    What a grab!

Adam Milne makes the early breakthrough and with the second ball of the match, removes Alex Davies.

A very thick outside edge off the bat brings Benny Howell, fielding at gully, into the game, and he takes a brilliant diving catch.

An early blow for the Brave.

Right, let's get down to it!

Adam Milne has the ball in hand and will bowl at Alex Davies to get this Eliminator under way.

Southern Brave finished third in the group stage of the competition, a point behind the Oval Invincibles and the Birmingham Phoenix.

In their eight group matches, the Brave won five matches, loss two games and had one no-result.

Former England Test batter and Brave captain James Vince has scored 357 runs already, 95 more than any other player in the men's competition.

Chris Jordan (14) and Tymal Mills (13) have starred with the ball for the Brave, taking 27 wickets between them so far.
