  1. Postpublished at 11:25 British Summer Time 26 April

    Surrey 25-0 v Somerset 283

You can tell Dom Sibley is in fine touch, even if you haven't seen his numbers this season.

Lovely timing as he is forward to Josh Davey, picking the bowler off with a tidy glance through mid wicket for four runs.

In the next over, he drives Lewis Gregory through point and a diving stop on the boundary keeps him to three.

  2. 'There's been some really good bits of fielding'published at 11:25 British Summer Time 26 April

    Notts 188-5 v Sussex 169

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

The standard of slip-catching has been of the highest quality.

That catch from James Coles was absolutely superb.

There's been some really good bits of fielding yesterday and today.

Lewis Hill has brought up his third half-century of the young season from 96 balls and he and Ian Holland (13*) have put on 72 for the fifth Leicestershire wicket at Bristol as they continue to recover from 38-4.

They are 109-4 but still 143 in arrears against Gloucestershire.

At Derby Martin Andersson (22*) and Luis Reece (5* from 40 balls) are inching towards a second batting point against Middlesex, with the hosts 279-5 with nine overs left to achieve those 21 runs.

    Verreynne c Coles b Seales 9 (Notts 186-5 v Sussex 169)

Jayden Seales celebratesImage source, Rex Features

And the best way to stop the flow of runs is...? Anyone?

Jayden Seales strikes again this morning.

Kyle Verreynne is drawn forward with a loose defensive stroke and he's nicked it low to James Coles at third slip.

Liam Patterson-White joins his club captain Haseeb Hameed in the middle.

  5. Postpublished at 11:18 British Summer Time 26 April

    Notts 183-4 v Sussex 169

An elegant front-footed cover drive from Kyle Verreynne brings him his first four off the bowling of Ollie Robinson.

There's signs of encouragement for Robinson though, who gets bounce and away movement just outside off.

His fifth ball however is too short and tapped away through cover by Verreynne for four.

Notts captain Haseeb Hameed gets a four of his own off Jayden Seales, driving the pace bowler through point.

Runs are flowing a little too easily for Sussex here.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:18 British Summer Time 26 April

    Rhodes c Roderick b Taylor 17 (Worcestershire 162 v Durham 58-6)

Two in the over for Tom Taylor.

He finds the edge of Will Rhodes' blade and offers a simpler catch to keeper Gareth Roderick, in his bread basket this time.

Big wicket to end a stubborn 80-ball innings.

Worcestershire are taking a stranglehold on this one in the New Road sunshine.

George Drissell comes in to join Graham Clark.

  7. 'Notts need the bonus points'published at 11:14 British Summer Time 26 April

    Notts 171-4 v Sussex 169

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Notts need to get amongst the bonus points today.

If Sussex come out of this match with the same amount of bonuses, they'll be very pleased given the position they were in yesterday.

  8. Postpublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 26 April

    Surrey 11-0 v Somerset 283

Rory Burns battingImage source, Rex Features

This is a sprightly start for Surrey. 10 runs in the first two overs.

Rory Burns (pictured) picks up his first four, neatly clipping Somerset captain Lewis Gregory through mid wicket.

He gets away with a play and miss outside off in the next over v Josh Davey though.

An absolute peach of a ball beats the bat again and continues to swing away after it passes Burns.

There's plenty here to keep the bowlers interested.

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 26 April

    Blatherwick c Roderick b Taylor 3 (Worcestershire 162 v Durham 57-5)

    Fine catch from Gareth Roderick...

Nightwatcher Jack Blatherick wafts at a wide one from Tom Taylor, finds a thick edge and the keeper flies to his right to take a nice catch which might well have continued on to Adam Hose at first slip anyway.

Graham Clark is the new man for Durham, missing the injured David Bedingham this week, remember.

His side are 105 behind with just five wickets in hand...

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:08 British Summer Time 26 April

    Haynes c Simpson b Seales 35 (Notts 167-4 v Sussex 169)

    Sussex celebrateImage source, Rex Features

Decent opening over from Ollie Robinson aside from a no ball with a consistent off stump line on a good length.

But it's Jayden Seales who gets the early breakthrough from the Stuart Broad End!

First ball no less! Jack Haynes is drawn forward to defend and he gets a thin edge through to keeper-captain Josh Simpson.

Quite the turnaround for Seales after conceding more than five runs an over on Friday.

Kyle Verreynne is in next. Pronounced ver-eh-na, apparently.

  11. 'The slowest outfield ever'published at 11:07 British Summer Time 26 April

    Worcestershire 162 v Durham 57-4

    Frank Watson
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

The outfield at New Road is lush with thick, green grass. Jacob Duffy described it as the slowest outfield he'd ever played cricket on. That's quite a claim from a player who has played in all parts of the world.

We have to take that into account and you'd think Worcestershire's total might have been closer to 200-odd on another ground.

I think we're going to see more of the same today in terms of the tempo of the game.

  12. Postpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 26 April

    Surrey 5-0 v Somerset 283

Surrey are up and running straight away with a Josh Davey no ball.

Rory Burns forces the next delivery away through cover for a couple.

He'll get one more to mid on.

Alfie Ogborne is on as 12th man for Somerset because of that index finger injury to opener Sean Dickson on Friday morning.

Dom Sibley has passed 50 four times in his last four innings and he defends confidently down the pitch.

  13. Postpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 26 April

    Worcestershire 162 v Durham 55-4

Ben Allison opens up with a very tidy maiden over - coming very close to finding the edge of Will Rhodes' bat with that first ball.

Tom Taylor is thrown the ball at the other end, aiming to keep the pressure on the visitors and nightwatcher Jack Blatherwick who is on strike.

  14. Day Two begins at Trent Bridgepublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 26 April

    Notts 164-3 v Sussex 169

Sussex got off to a great start in the first three Championship rounds but they're well and truly under the cosh here.

The hosts are just five runs short of parity and no doubt confident of a big first innings advantage.

Notts captain Haseeb Hameed has continued his fine form with an unbeaten 67 here, hot on the heels of his unbeaten century in his last game v the Bears.

Jack Haynes has 34 not out and he will face the first ball of the day, to be bowled by Ollie Robinson.

  15. Start of play at New Roadpublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 26 April

    Worcestershire 162 v Durham 55-4

Durham just about squeaked through a very uncomfortable evening session with something approaching parity in the game on Friday.

Will Rhodes and nightwatcher Jack Blatherwick held firm until stumps, but will have a very different challenge this morning as they seek to build towards a first innings advantage.

Ben Allison takes the opening over of the day in the sunshine... and beats Rhodes with a jaffa first ball. Oof.

  16. Day Two begins at the Ovalpublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 26 April

    Surrey 0-0 v Somerset 283

    This could be an epic.

Surrey skipper Rory Burns and opening partner Dom Sibley are in the middle to start making inroads into a more than decent Somerset total.

Josh Davey will bowl to Burns to get the day started.

Josh Tongue celebratesImage source, Rex Features

We have a Test match v Zimbabwe coming up followed by a five-Test series v India this summer.

Who has staked an irresistible claim to join England's squad?

Josh Tongue (pictured) must be in the thoughts of the selectors.

After a miserable, injury ravaged 2024, Tongue has hit the ground running with waspish pace and hostility, picking up 14 wickets at 20.42, including five-wicket hauls v Durham and in his current game v Sussex.

Sam Cook is already in the mix and resting on ECB orders after a promising 4-44 v Notts in the second Championship round, taking his Essex career record to 302 wickets at a miserly 18.49 overall.

Matt Potts is also resting in this round at the request of the ECB and he's already taken 12 wickets in three Championship matches this summer, with a career tally of 260 at 24.46.

Gus Atkinson and Ollie Robinson were also in the wickets on the opening day of this round of matches - does the fit-again Sussex man join the Surrey star in the frame this summer too?

With injury persisting for the unlucky Brydon Carse, who do you think should be taking the ball in an England shirt this summer?

  18. Notts seeking to turn the screw on Sussexpublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 26 April

    Nottinghamshire 164-3 v Sussex 169

Haseeb Hameed celebratesImage source, Rex Features

Friday was pretty much the perfect day for Notts skipper Haseeb Hameed.

After winning a good toss he watched Brett Hutton (4-53) and Josh Tongue's rockets rip through the Sussex innings.

Tongue was superb, picking up his second five-wicket haul of the season and his best figures for Notts (5-44) as the visitors could only muster 169.

Hameed then led from the front as he compiled another handsome half-century, calmly steering his side to near parity with the help of a confident unbeaten 34 from Jack Haynes.

Ollie Robinson was head and shoulders above the rest of the Sussex attack - he looks like he getting back to his best - and that will at least give the visitors hope they can get back into this today.

But the deficit is as good as wiped out. Notts have a great platform to construct a sizable first-innings advantage on day two.

    Ollie Pope congratulates Jordan Clark

Anybody lucky enough to be at the Oval on Friday evening would've been spellbound by the final hour or so of play on Day One.

Surrey looked to be in complete command with Somerset reeling at 187-7 with Jordan Clark swinging and seaming the ball superbly.

The rebuild evolved from steady to spectacular as Somerset skipper Lewis Gregory added 62 runs in the next 16.3 overs and then 33 in 16 balls after Davey and Jack Leach fell in quick succession.

Opener Sean Dickson had retired hurt in the third over of the innings, but defied the pain to block with one hand while Gregory blasted sixes over square leg and long on.

By the time Jordan Clark completed a deserved five wicket haul when Gregory holed out to Ryan Patel in the deep on the leg side, Somerset had picked up two batting points from a near hopeless position 20 overs beforehand.

But will 283 be enough? It looks like a competitive score on a pitch where we've seen a bit of seam movement, swing with the older ball plus uneven bounce.

Both teams are still looking for their first win of the season and mercifully the weather is set fair.

One of these teams will surely break their duck over the next two or three days.

The sun is shining at New Road

The weather forecast has completely changed from the one forecast yesterday. It's a nice, sunny morning in Worcester and quite warm.

I wonder if that will improve batting opportunities today? We have already had 14 wickets in this game and only 217 runs.

Yesterday the ball was nipping about, but the wicket was slow and the outfield snail pace. The highest total so far is the 42 from Pears debutant Henry Nicholls.

From what we've seen so far, if anyone manages to reach 50 here they will have done very well.
