If Surrey were hoping the pitch might have magically transformed overnight, they will be disappointed.

Ben Brown and Liam Dawson seem to have all the time in the world as they take eight from Gus Atkinson's opening over.

Dawson waltzes through for an easy single off Sean Abbott's first over of the day and Brown tucks one off his hips for two more before good fielding keeps the Hants wicketkeeper down to a single to move to 107.

Five of Hampshire's six batters have reached fifty in this first innings and Dawson is 22 runs away from becoming their fourth century-maker of the match.

    Glos 246-4 v Derbys 526

A prompt start at Bristol and a fairly sedate one too as Sam Conners sends down a maiden to Graeme van Buuren, who is 64 not out.

Gloucestershire's first batting point is just four runs away.

    Middx 69-1 v Sussex 554-9 dec

We are under way on time at the home of cricket and Sussex will be hoping to get among the wickets early.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice bowls the opening over of day three and there is an early single each for Max Holden to bring up a 50 partnership with Sam Robson.

Robson celebrates by squeezing FHP down past the slips for the day's first boundary.

    Kent 118-4 v Essex 591-7 dec

We have cricket in Canterbury - doesn't that conjure up a lovely image?

And Shane Snater begins with a maiden to Joe Denly.

Now from the Nackington Road End, it will be Jamie Porter to have a crack at night-watchman Matt Parkinson.

  5. 100 for Ben Brownpublished at 11:02 26 May

    Hants 500-4 v Surrey 127

There can’t be many batters who enjoy the nervous nineties, but pity poor Ben Brown. He’s been stuck on 99 overnight.

All that time to contemplate how and if you’ll reach the magic figure.

He’s facing first up this morning as Surrey paceman Gus Atkinson tears in.

Ben Brown cuts the first ball of the day away square for four and there it is - a first century of the season for the Hampshire wicketkeeper and a 24th first-class ton of his career.

It’s come at a decent strike rate, too, off just 114 balls, with 12 fours.

A single then brings up the Hampshire 500 in the 144th over.

    Lancashire 66-3 v Warwickshire 284

    Adam Lanigan

Despite overnight rain and some very grey clouds, it looked like we were going to start on time at Old Trafford.

The groundstaff kept the covers on until the last possible second so they are not very confident!

    And they were right!

Just as the Warwickshire players were about to emerge, drizzle starts to fall and we will not start on time.

  7. Delayed start at Grace Roadpublished at 11:00 26 May

    Leics 280-5 v Glamorgan 387

There's been plenty of rain around at Leicester this morning and we'll have a delayed start.

But it has stopped and the umpires hope to get going at noon if there's no more of the wet stuff before then.

  9. Albert glad to take surprise opportunitypublished at 10:57 26 May

    Hampshire 495-4 v Surrey 127

    Toby AlbertImage source, Rex Features

Hampshire opener Toby Albert made the most of a team-mate's misfortune as he hit a maiden first-class hundred against Division One leaders Surrey.

Albert was drafted in for his fourth first-class game for the county after Ali Orr had to pull out of the match because of a bad back and made a patient 114 from 305 balls.

"Thursday morning I wasn't going to play. I'd played a T20 game at Arundel and the coach spoke to me afterwards - it's just nice to get an opportunity and even better to take it," he told BBC Radio Solent.

Hampshire lead by 368 and the onus will be on their attack to try and repeat last September's win over Surrey. "The pitch is pretty good, it's very slow, if you bowl straight it's hard to score and I think that'll be the way to take wickets - hit the stumps as much as we can," Albert added.

  10. Latest from Northamptonpublished at 10:55 26 May

    Northants 301 v Yorkshire 362 & 0-1

    Andrew Radd
    BBC Radio Northampton

Despite some heavy overnight rain in the county, play will start at Wantage Road just a quarter of an hour late at 11:15 BST.

Yorkshire will resume on 0-1 - that's a lead of 61 - after Ben Sanderson removed nightwatchman-opener Dom Leech in the final over of the day's play last night.

Northamptonshire captain Luke Procter - who held his side together with a superb unbeaten century, his first as captain - was hoping for some cloud cover to help his seamers this morning, and it looks as though he will have his wish.

  12. Captain Jennings again holding Lancs togetherpublished at 10:51 26 May

    Lancashire 66-3 v Warwickshire 284

Halfway through this one at Old Trafford and Warwickshire perhaps have the upper hand following a brilliant 127 not out from captain Alex Davies in carrying his bat.

Lancashire crawled through almost 30 overs with the bat and looked like they had recovered from 12-2, but the loss of George Bell to the final day from Jake Lintott will have made the Bears' dinner feel a lot sweeter.

Keaton Jennings remains on 12 off 84 balls. With three tons already this summer, he is the Lancashire form batter. This morning, he needs to occupy the crease and score runs (more quickly) to get his side back into this one.

  13. Surely even Surrey can't win from here?published at 10:49 26 May

Sport never ceases to surprise you. Yesterday we remembered that Manchester United can actually be a decent football team.

We also saw that Surrey are human. How else do you explain the County Champions being 365 runs behind to Hampshire with the hosts only four wickets down?

We awake this morning with the thought - surely even Surrey can't win from this position?

But that's the beauty of red-ball cricket. With a second innings, there is a second chance.

And it's why Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Middlesex and Kent know they can still get out of tight positions.

Let's see what moving day has in store!

  14. Returning to Canterbury felt 'weird' - Coxpublished at 10:47 26 May

    Kent 118-4 v Essex 591-7 dec

    Jordan CoxImage source, Rex Features

Jordan Cox may not be a Kent player any more, but he still enjoys playing at Canterbury just as much, as underlined by a superb 207 off 255 balls for Essex on day two.

"I was a bit nervous (before) this game. I haven't been nervous this season really but coming back here, coming through the gates, felt really weird," he told BBC Essex.

"I did get booed when I first came out so for them to turn and clap a hundred and then a double was nice.

"It's never nice leaving your home club but sometimes you have to do it and move on. I've done that and I've taken my chance at Essex pretty well so far."

John Simpson congratulates Cheteshwar PujaraImage source, Rex Features

Cheteshwar Pujara marked the final game of his latest Sussex stint with a century as they piled up a club record score against Middlesex on day two at Lord's.

Pujara, who is due to be replaced by Australian Daniel Hughes when the Championship resumes next month, made 129 in a stand of 223 with John Simpson, who scored 167 against his former club.

"There's a great history behind this ground, as a kid I always wanted to play cricket here," Pujara told BBC Sussex.

"I had to work hard. It wasn't an easy pitch where you can just start scoring runs freely, so I had to be patient and work my way through. Probably this is my last game of the season for Sussex and it's good to finish with a ton."

  16. Handscomb maintains excellent formpublished at 10:40 26 May

    Leics 280-5 v Glamorgan 387

    Peter HandscombImage source, Rex Features

Leicestershire's Peter Handscomb was delighted to 'go with the flow' of his current good form as he hit an unbeaten 102 on day two against Glamorgan at Grace Road.

The Australian has made 547 runs at an average of 78 so far this season, with the help of two centuries and four fifties.

“Cricket (form) ebbs and flows and at some stage I’m going to go through a lull again but hopefully people will remember this," he told BBC Radio Leicester.

Handscomb put on 141 with captain Lewis Hill and added: "A lot of credit goes to Hilly there steadying the ship in the middle. It's awesome to see what he's doing."

  17. Another session lost at Worcesterpublished at 10:38 26 May

    Worcs 80 v Notts 234-3 - start delayed

More frustration for cricket watchers at New Road this morning.

After day one was washed out, the rain has returned overnight and after an early morning inspection, umpires Nigel Llong and Surendiran Shanmugam have decided there will be no play before lunch.

It won't just be the supporters who will be feeling miffed. Nottinghamshire have worked themselves into a commanding position - 154 runs in front with seven wickets in hand - and will be keen to crack on.

Luke Fletcher (3-18) and Pears old boy Dillon Pennington (3-25) helped skittle the hosts for 80 before lunch on day two.

Then Haseeb Hameed piled on the agony with a ton, and Joe Clarke, another former Worcs man, made it to stumps unbeaten on 73, both having been dropped on 46 and 0, respectively.

An early birthday gift for Clarke who turns 28 today.

What is it they say, things can only get better?

  18. What's in store weather-wise?published at 10:34 26 May

"There will be some sunny spells, mostly towards the south of the UK, but also the threat of some heavy thundery downpours breaking out as well," says BBC Weather's Elizabeth Rizzini.

To emphasise that, the Met Office has issued yellow thunderstorm warnings for parts of northern England, the Midlands, East Anglia and northeast Wales.

Looks like a fingers crossed sort of day then.

Durham began the Championship break two days early after breezing to victory over Somerset on Saturday, with Ben Stokes picking up four more wickets to prove he is back in rude bowling health.

We still have eight games ongoing, though, and among them, Division One leaders Surrey find themselves facing a big first-innings deficit against Hampshire at the Utilita Bowl

There have already been 12 centuries in this round of games - two of them doubles - so who will be raising the bat today?

Welcome to our coverage of day three. Play is due to start at 11:00.
