There are so many good players in this England line-up and eventually, the penny will drop. It's team that they are reassembling some little things, but for such good players, it doesn't take too long to gel. They just need an opportunity. Will Jacks and Harry Brook put in the hard yards early and then they played their natural game!

  3. 'A simple message'published at 20:27 British Summer Time 24 September

England captain Harry Brook, who was also named player of the match, said: "We started off nicely with the ball and looked to take wickets. We got a few early on. Obviously they built partnerships and they batted nicely with some partnerships.

"With the bat myself and Will Jacks just tried to build a partnership and create that platform. We didn't have much of a chat between innings. I thought the pitch got better towards the end of Australia's innings. It was a simple message of go out there and play your own game."

On his first ODI hundred: "It's nice to get the first one on the board and hopefully plenty more to come. We just have to keep doing what we said we are going to do [at Lord's] and keep being positive, take the game to them and put them under pressure. That should stand us in good stead."

  4. 'Fair play to them'published at 20:24 British Summer Time 24 September

Australia captain Mitchell Marsh: "I thought we did extremely well to get the 300 with conditions early on, a lot of seam and it was hard work.

"Honestly, I thought 250 after start was going to be awesome, so with 300 we were in the game at the half way mark.

"They got a really partnership going, and in one-day cricket with a big partnership you can set the game up for yourself, fair play to them."

On Adam Zampa's absence: "Whenever you're missing someone like him it's hard work. He was a big miss, but we'll hopefully welcome back in a few days."

This match was set up so well by that partnership from Will Jacks and Harry Brook. It's took all the pressure off the England middle order.

It's been a very positive performance from England today. But we need to look at this and see if we can repeat it at Lord's. Yes, it's a great win, but there's plenty more work to be done.

They are 2-1 down with two matches left to play - at Lord's and Bristol.

It's past eight o'clock here at Chester-le-Street and it's raining pretty hard at the moment. They've just gone out for a chat - the umpiring contingent and the ground staff. So, I think we can't be too far away from getting some sort of information. My instinct is we are not going to see anymore cricket here tonight.

Harry Brook has batted superbly today. A real captain's knock. He was 110* off 94 balls before rain stopped play.

Here's the best shots from his maiden ODI hundred.

We asked for your knowledge of grounds next to castles earlier - given that Lumley Castle overlooks the Riverside in Chester-le-Street.

There were some fantastic pictures and stories.

One text came in after the cut-off, but it made us chuckle so we've decided to make an exception as we're on a rain delay.

England will win this today if we do not go back out today, through DLS. It keeps the series alive and exciting as we head to Lord's and we will pray it won't rain in Bristol for the fourth year in a row!

The rain is blowing in from the west and the bad news, looking at the radar, is there is more on the way.

It is set to stop at some point but it's about how long the mopping up will take from this point.
